This bike is great gym quality for half the price of spinner NTX and schwinn. I used the NTX at the gym and other than the fact that te NTX is cooler looking, it preforms the same. If you compare the spinner pro/elite or the schwinn models to this one, they have basically the same frame, plus the braking/resistance pads on the pheonix is the same as the schwinn only with a couple inprovements.
The ntx resistance pad is a single direct pressure on the outside of the flywheel---which is esentially the same as a drum brake. A single pad with less surface area leads to increased wear and needing to replace the pad sooner. whereas the pheonix and the schwinn use 2 pads compressing the flywheel---like a disc brake.---increased resistance surface and better resistance, decreased wear on pads.
It is as sturdy and well build as the NTX.-even has the same handlebars--minus the bottle holders. It is heavy---130 lbs but has wheels for moving.

Only thing to consider is that the bike seems to be build for larger individuals. I'm 5'6" and anm only 1 notch away from being the lowest seat post adjustment and the seat is 1 notch from being farthest foward. So I'm thinking 5'4" should be the height requirement for this ride.

Seat that comes with bike is cheap-so take your seat off your normal bike and put it on this and note that the pedals are just medal with straps--not clip-on compatible but for the cost of a new seat and pedals-your still looking at 3/4 the cost of a scwhinn-NTX.
and note the all black frame is fun put your favorite stickers on.

This is really nice, quiet bike that has a smooth ride, and I highly recommend it!

It came in one large box, and my husband put it together in less than 30 minutes since the wheel and main components were already attached; all he had to do was put on the handle, seat, and pedals. We did not have the problem with the broken knob that the two other reviewers mentioned.

The wheel does make some noise when riding it, but it's not any louder than the higher-end spin bikes you'd find at the gym. I was actually surprised at how quiet and smooth it is. It does wobble a bit when you stand and do hill climbs, but I think that is because we currently have it on carpet. We're looking into putting this on a different surface to see if that makes it more stable, and I will try to remember to update my review once we do this.

The adjustments on this are also great, both in terms of the tension knob and the physical bike itself. I was worried that you'd have to turn the tension knob a thousand times to crank it up and down, but about 2-3 turns in either direction takes you up or down to the next gear, making it very easy to quickly change your level. Also, the bike is a comfortable fit for both me (about 5'4") and my husband (about 6'0") since you can move the seat up/down and also front/back.

The only small negatives about this bike are in regards to the handlebars. The handlebar doesn't have the ability to move front and back for a better fit -- although I knew it didn't have this feature before buying it, and most mid-range spin bikes also don't have this feature. (If you're on the shorter side, this might be a challenge; at just under 5'4", I would be happier having the handlebar a bit closer to me.) Additionally, the post that the handlebar is on sticks, making it very difficult for me to move it up and down; we used some lubricant on it, but my husband still has to move it back to my position after he's done using it since I have a hard time adjusting it myself.

Two tips: invest in a gel seat (and/or padded bike shorts) and some SPD clips and shoes to get a better ride out of your spin bike. We've been using a standard-sized gel seat that fits nicely on this seat and that cost under $15. I also picked up a pair of Shimano SPD pedals that were on sale at my local bike shop for $45 so that we could use our spin shoes and SPD cleats on this bike. (Be sure that you have a pedal wrench if you decide to do this; you may need to pick one of them up, too.)

Overall, this is a great bike! Also, keep an eye on the price, since it does tend to drop down to about $480, with free shipping. ;-)

UPDATED on 4/19/09 and 1/5/10: I downgraded my original five-star review to four stars. We are still very happy with this purchase, but the resistance knob has been very sticky and hard to turn when there is any kind of humidity in the air, and San Diego is not a very humid place! It's still a solid bike (and the wobbling is minor; we ended up leaving it as is), but some days it's very challenging to change that resistance knob to a higher setting. Just beware of this if you live in a humid climate.

Ok..so I bought this item for home because of the fabulous price ($478.99 w/free s/h). It was a toss up between this and another brand. Although it was heavy, I was able to get it into my house (3 steps) on my own without straining anything...I put it together by myself within 40 minutes or so and this sucker is STOUT. One little nobby broke off during shipping but will be replaced; I'm not concerned--it didn't effect the bike at at all. So I just completed my first workout on it and I must say, it's stable, sturdy, just like the one at my gym and I LOVE IT. I'm pleasantly surprised and would recommend it to anyone that is looking for a spin bike for your home...It's got all the necessary adjustments needed for the novice/intermediate spinner!

I was so excited for my bike! I did quite a bit of research and read all of the positive reviews on Amazon. The box it arrived in was not damaged at all, and it seemed to be packaged well surrounded by styrofoam. However there are several dents in the metal. Some of them are only cosmetic and I was willing to overlook. The quick release knob was broken, which the company was willing to mail another at no cost. But there is no use replacing it now... the handlebars will only go down to a certain height because the base the handlebars fit in is bent inward. I am so annoyed with it all and don't even want to deal with returning it. ( I live up a couple flights of stairs and don't want to ask another person to help me carry the 125 lb. bike again to ship it back.) Hopefully I will continue to take my frustration out on riding the bike and I will get my $500 use out of it. I'm just confused on how the company can box up a bike with so many obvious bent pieces.

I am a bit upset. Bought this bike as a present for a loved one, they opened it and one of the knob's was broken into pieces. Called Customer Service at the beginning of January and they said that I would receive it within 7-10 business days, a month later, I still have not received it. Called again and was told they are on back order now. They called me back a couple hours later and said they have no records of me ever ordering the bike? I am upset with their customer service, especially since this was a present! I don't think I would ever order from them again knowing they can't keep their word on when they would send it, especially not even calling me to let me know that it was on back order when here I am waiting for a package. I have no idea what I am going to do now.

I received this bike 4 weeks ago. It was very easy with very little to assemble. When the bike was unpacked the only thing that was broken was a knob, which i called the company and they were to send a new one out right away. Well i have yet to receive it. As far as the bike goes i am very pleased. I have been spinning for 5 years.

I bought this bike a month ago and the price was right around $589 w/free shipping. It has now since dropped to $499, so make sure you wait until it gets below $500 to save some cash. I thought the set up was very easy. It took me maybe 15 minutes and the tools are included. No parts were broken. Others are right that this machine does not have all the adjustment features of a very high end, gym bike, but you get what you pay for. I find the ride to be very comfortable even when I'm on it for 1.5-2 hours at a time. Bike shorts are a must in my opinion though.

So far so good with everything.

I am very pleased with this spinning bike. I have been spinning at my local YMCA for 4 years and decided a bike for home would be great because my schedule was conflicting with class times at the gym on occasion. This bike is sturdy, smooth and comfortable. The assembly took about 30 minutes. This is a great bike for the money. My only complaint is that the tension knob is too close to the frame. It's not a problem just not quite as easy as the ones I am used to. All in all, a great purchase.

This is a wonderful spinning bike, just the one fits into my needs - no more gym membership fee and extra gas, but dripping sweat just the same! Shipping was fast and there was no damage on the parts. Most of the main components have been preassembled, so it only took me less than 30 min to set up with complete tools included. The bike is heavy weight and sturdy but easily moved because of the front wheel feature. The tension is easy to transit and gives me plenty of range to "race", and the handlebar does not have wiggly problem like some other brands. Plus, the seat can be adjusted up/down and back/forth, my wife is shorter and I am a tall guy, both of us can ride on the bike comfortably without problem. I am totally satisified with my purchase! I will use this beautiful bike for strenuous indoor workouts for a long time to come!!

Purchased the Phoenix 98623 Revolution exercise bike for my girlfriend, but I get to use it to. Love this bike. It is thoughtfully engineered, heavy duty where it counts, and will probably last a lifetime. Definitely worth the price. I know you can pay thousands for spinner bikes, but not sure what more I could ask for than this $600 wonder. My only complaint is that (like all spinners) the seat is a tad hard and uncomfortable, at least for me and my friend. We solved that by buying an inexpensive gel seat cover.

Just got the bike this week.....and did my first hour-long workout on it today....kicked my butt! Found it very sturdy, tho I have it on carpet so it's a bit wobbly on the carpet. Not so wobbly it would fall over or anything. Had no trouble putting it together and nothing arrived broken or damaged. Great home spin bike! Equals the ones in my gym for half the price....

We wanted to get an exercise bike at home that's sturdy and both my husband and I can use. I've done a lot of research on these bikes and ended up getting this one. So far we are really happy with it. We've been using it for about a month now and really our only complaint is the seat hight and the comfort of the seat. I'm 5'7" and he is 5'11". When we try to adjust the seat it's either too low or too high, but I mostly bike standing up so it's not that big of a deal. We bought a gel seat cover, like some other users suggested, and that helped but we still put a towel on it as well for more comfort. I read some previous reviews on this bike and saw that it would sometimes get damaged in the shipping process. Because of that I used 2 day shipping and had no issues. The bike came in perfect condition and my husband put it together in about 20min or so.

Most entry level spinning bikes have 30-33 lbs flywheels. I chose Phoenix because it was one of the few bikes in this price range that had 40lbs flywheel. I didn't expect much for this price and I was pleasantly surprised when bike arrived. The bike is actually gym quality bike with very strong frame and it looks like it can take a beating. Flywheel doesn't wobble and is very smooth. Resistance adjustment works very well. All you need is a view clicks. Bike is very quiet. I was able to watch TV while spinning on my regular volume setting. The only source of noise is a drive chain. The higher end bikes have belt drive instead, which is quieter, but with a chain you don't have to worry about breaking a belt.

This would be 5 stars if they had used sturdier packing material--Styrofoam just doesn't cut it for a 120-lb bike. When I opened the box it looked like a bomb had gone off inside. Surprisingly, nothing was broken. The tab at the back of the frame where the cross-piece attaches was bent, but when I attached the cross-piece it straightened out. Still, I count myself lucky.

The bike went together easily in about 20 minutes. Like others I found the seat and handlebar adjustment very stiff, but a little silicon spray fixed that.

I'm very pleased with the quality and solidity of the bike. Basically it feels like the twice as expensive bikes I ride at the gym. Like high-end bikes, it has a very solid feel with no sway in the frame, and maybe just a little in the seat and handlebars. I would've liked a fore-aft adjustment on the handlebars, but other than that, it has all the features I could want. Now we get to see how well it holds up over time.

Update: Okay, the saddle broke. One of the two rails bent. No problem for me, as I have plenty of old saddles laying around that are perfect for the spin bike. I am a big guy at 230 lbs, but still... I'm keeping the review at 4 stars for now, until something more important breaks.

This bike is a great buy for the price. It is very substantial and the heavy weight lets you be able to get up out of the saddle without worrying about the bike tipping over. Assembly was easy. The seat is not very comfortable but we bought another one at a bike store and it wasn't too expensive. It's pretty easy to move even though it's a heavy bike. Adjusting the seat is a little tough. You have to use your whole weight to move up or down.

This bike came in great condition with nothing broken or damaged.The ride is smooth and the resistance is easily adjustable for a quick change for spinning and interval training.The assembly wasn't to bad,it comes with the tools you'll need and the hard parts are already assembled. A great indoor exercise machine.

We were uncertain in buying on line with out testing this bike how it was going to be. Honestly, since purchasing are fears have been calmed. Great bike for the money, was easy to purchase on line, came I think in about a week - very durable, minimal assembly, and is easy to move around our basement when we want next to heater or t.v. I would rate it right up there with the top of the line bikes!

I received the bike in great condition. My wife absolutely love this bike it was easy to put together and I had no issue with any parts being bent. She spins regularly at the gym and finds this bike to be as good if not better than the spin bike at the gym. Of course the seat is not that comfortable but they never are so she will go buy a gel seat and a pair of bike shorts which will resolve that minor issue. If we had to complain about one thing it would be the location of the quick stop lever, it should be just a little lower so it doesn't get in the way when you are turning the tension up or down.

This is the preliminary review because it just showed up today, I put it together and test ran it. I am beyond thrilled right now, serious case of the ga ga's. I used to ride fixed gear, I loved my fixed gear..then I met the boyfriend started gaining some weight, stopped riding, got married, put on a little more..you get the picture.

It was packaged really well. I had to cut through the thick wrap around the box to the box. The bike itself is really sturdy and very heavy. I almost thought about waiting for my husband to get home to lift the front end just so I could but the front balance on. I ended up using the seat bar to to hold the front of the bike up to screw it on. There are only 2 parts that you actually have to screw on and those are the bikes balances, everything else is self explanatory and just slides into place to be adjusted by you later.

I've read from a couple of tall people about the height adjustment before but they're not kidding, I'm 6'1 with longer legs and arms then torso so I have to be able to adjust the poop out of this to suit me. It adjusted perfectly very easily. The saddle is standard, I'm going to leave it but to be comfortable just get a gel pad or entirely new seat. The bonus to this is that you can adjust the seat closer or further from the handlebars. That was a great add on. After riding it out of the seat (standing up)this bike didn't even make a tiny wiggle. It doesn't move an inch anywhere. I don't feel the least bit like I'm going to tip over, which is what I was afraid of with buying an exercise bike in general. I've never purchased anything like this through Amazon before and I could not be happier.

So no complaints at all. If anything hinky comes up (seriously doubt it) I'll update.

UPDATE: April 2012

Still great, no problems no loud noises, This was a great buy, everything the same as when I initially purchases and still love it.

After reading the reviews and all the research we did to get an exercise bike, we decided this was the one.
Unfortunately for us, when it arrived, the handle was completely shattered. This bike is heavy and repacking and relocating it is not an easy fete. We live in a doorman building and the box was enormous and hard to handle. You can imagine having to deal with this issue twice was a small annoyance. You sign up for that annoyance only once.

After waiting for another three weeks, we finally got our replacement in the mail and of course we were excited. After we pieced most of the bike together, we realized the bolts were rusted/oxidized (corroded). We replaced the bolts and found that the wheel is defective! We called Amazon and the manufacturer. The manufacturer sent us a new shaft which did nothing. All this time, we had to assemble and reassemble the bike. Lucky for us, my husband is really handy.

After all of this, there was something actually wrong with the bike itself or a rusting in the wheel. Hard to tell without taking the wheel apart. We were not going to do this. Overall, we are really disappointed in the bike.
I sincerely hope that the people that gave this item a positive review didn't have the problems we did. I would not want to wish this upon anyone. I truly believe that this bike is not made well or we received two defective bikes in a row. The first time can be contributed to poor packing poor shipping but the second time there was no excuse.

I must say that Amazon has done what they could to help with this issue so I do give them credit for that. Still owrking it all out. It was a total waste of our time.

I'm very happy with this bike for the price. I've had it for a couple months and use it about 3 to 4 times a week. The seat is uncomfortable but so are all bike seats. My only other complaint is that the spin knob. It doesn't turn smoothly but hopefully some grease will fix that. The knob is also so close to the handle bar piece that I scraped up my knuckles when turning before I became used to it. I would have loved the same bike as my gym but it was 3x the money, so this bike is a great compromise.

i Bought three different spinning bikes all had problems. I really didn't want to spend more than $500. I went to a local store and tried out all of the high end bikes, all were over $1500. I decided to buy one more bike in the $500 range so i bought the Phoenix Revolutions. Best 500 i ever spent, it was easy to put together, very well built, very stable, a 220lb man can stand up and pedal hard without feeling like its going to tip over. This is not a cheap walmart bike. Best Bang for your Buck!

turns out that this was a terrific buy at less than 500 for sure. Seriously though, tough, well made, sturdy and nearly as good as the Keiser I use at the gym

Apologize for misreading -- apparently the price hike is not caused by new stock arriving but by Amazon's stock selling out and the new price is that of a non-direct Amazon seller

Update February 11

Since this home spin bike is now out of stock, I may as well update my review with some observations after riding on it for a while.

pros

very sturdy and solid
quiet riding - a little noise at high resistance but mostly very smooth
easy to assemble and mine arrived without any of the packaging problems noted by others.

con

the seat is not so hot - still having trouble making the correct adjustment to it, though -- first couple of rides, it was angled too far downward pushing me forward and causing me to have to hold on to the bars too tight resulting in bad form points... then I adjusted it two far the other way (backward lean) and it was causing annoying discomfort in the parts below the waist.. After about 5 adjustments I think I have it right for me so don't expect to sit down and feel right immediately

overall

a nearly commercial gym quality spin bike solidly built and smooth riding for a really good price (assuming that price will still be really good when and if Amazon gets them back in stock

update (April 2)

still a great spin bike for a great price. Solid, no rattles or parts that move around when they shouldn't and gives you a near commercial grade spin bike workout without having to spend the four digits for one of those models. I've read the reviews from some of the comparably priced "rattlers, shakers and noisemakers" and I'm extremely happy that I purchased this one from Amazon

This bike is well made, solid, and relatively quiet. I had to make adjustment to saddle ( tilted it back a bit ) and applied cork tape to the bars for comfort. It is heavy (nice flywheel) so be sure to pad a wood floor before you roll it ( we learned the hard way and put grooves in our floor ). It is stable when hammering out of saddle. Good buy for the money.

I've been spinning for over 15 years and have been on several expensive commercial spinning bikes, but I have to say for the price this bike is just as good as the ones at the gym. It is well built, sturdy and gives me just as good a workout as the expensive bikes. The water bottle holder is in an awkward location for getting on and off the bike. I am only 5 feet tall and have an inseam of 26 inches. I don't have the seat in any of the holes. It is sitting clear down as far as it will go. If I put it in the first hole, I am stretching to reach the pedals, therefore, I think a person should have at least a 28 inch inseam for this bike. I have read where people say that the seat is a little hard but not any harder than the commercial bikes I've been on. I would use a gel seat but it raises me up too high. Since I spin all the time, the seat is not a problem for me. It says it comes with toe clips but these are not the SPD toe clips that you use with spinning shoes. The pedals on this bike are equipped with toe cages..not toe clips. I hate toe cages so I went to Dick's Sporting Goods and bought a good set of SPD toe clips and they work perfectly with this bike. As far as being noisy, I have never been on a chain driven bike that doesn't have some noise to it. I think that's the nature of the beast. With my music playing, I don't even hear it. I love this bike!

The bike is awesome. Im new to spinning but I've heard so many great things about it so I decided to get one for home. Its a great workout. My boyfriend uses it too and he says its better than any workout he's ever done (and he played football, cross country, etc...) Only downfall is that the seat and handlebars are super uncomfortable. the gel seat didnt really help. I may switch the seat all together to something wider. Handlebars are really hard and its painful when all your weight is pushing on them. Again, some simple padding will solve this problem.
All around great bike. awesome quality. very sturdy. nothing was damaged in packaging. easy to put together except the left pedal was threaded the wrong way and took us 20 minutes to figure it out!

My husband bought this for me for Christmas (I had done research and kept coming back to the Phoenix 98623 Revolution Cycle Pro II Exercise bike because it seemed to have superior quality and would fit my needs as an intermediate exerciser. I had never done spinning before so I downloaded a couple of workouts as well as bought a dvd. I have to say that comparing my treadmill (this bike is much tougher than my treadmill that has Ifit) It gets my heartrate to treadmill levels (running) It is perfect for endurance as well as sprints and fartlek high intensity training. It totally meets the goals that I wanted it to meet.
I have not had to use the braking system too much yet but it is good to have. I also like the quality of the bike (how you can adjust the seat and the handlebars to your level) The resistance button needs to be marked a little more clearly so you can see when you get to resistance 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10. There are no defined markings and the knob seems to stick just a little. I recieved this item very quickly for living in a rural area in Nevada.
I have only good things to say about the intensity of this bike. I am very glad to have it.

My wife has been wanting to get a spin bike for quite a long time, so I researched, researched, and then I researched. This bike had a lot of good reviews so I took the plunge. I think maybe I should have paid a little more attention to the reviews detailing the way this bike is packaged. Overall, the bike functions great. My problem is it arrived looking like the UPS guy backed into my driveway and threw the box off the top of his truck onto my porch. The front piece of angle iron the wheel piece bolts into was severely bent. Just above where the water bottle goes there are a bunch of HUGE scratches, and the paint at various other places was scratched and/or marred up. At the end of the day, the quality of the bike is sturdy. As many others have said....you will definitely need a new seat (the one that comes with it is some sort of medieval torture device). But if you want a brand new bike that LOOKS brand new (since you just dropped $500 on it) then I don't think this is the one for you. I did call Amazon and they offered me a $5 credit or the choice to lug the bike back out of my basement, disassemble it, and ship it back for another. So not impressed and told them to keep their $5 as it was insulting.
