Very pleased with the quality of the Rola 5950200 2" Steel Cargo Carrier - 2 Piece, seems to be well built and very sturdy. There is a bit of play where it slides into the reciever, however the weight of the carrier seems to keep it from making any noise when there is no cargo on it. The only negative that I found is the packing of the carrier, by the time I recieved the box it looked like it had been through a war. Between the weight of the carrier and the shipping process, the carrier had worn through the box in places and bolts were laying loose, it was amazing everything was there.

Would highly recommend this carrier if you need extra room. I have used it on the back of my RV for extra storage. It is made well. It takes less than hour to put it together. I would recommend buying the light kit that is available. Overall, a great product.

This cargo carrier fit perfectly on our class C motorhome: It's sturdy, and we have attached a 4 prong bike holder on it and use straps to secure our bikes. You cannot beat Amazon's price for this item: I searched the entire net and local vendors! great product, great price.

The product seems very well built. It should do the job. But I have the following complaints.
I read the following and thought the following was what I ordered.

What I received is 60" long. All the rest is as said in Product Specifications.
I wanted a 48" not a 60"
Plus the shipping box was coming apart and the product was poking out all over the place. I would have returned it but it would have been so much trouble I decided I would live with it.
So beware it is not as described.

The Rola 59502 cargo carrier was exactly what we were looking for! Worked great for our trip from MD to NC and back. The dimensions listed are not exact. It is 60x27x2. I would recommend getting the tail light kit. Once we put our luggage in the cargo bag and then in the carrier, most of our tail lights were blocked out on our Jeep.

The Rola 59502 is an excellent carrier. I would agree with other reviews that the manufacturer should include washers for the 4 main mounting bolts. The holes are oval and the bolts need the washers to cover the holes. I purchased a set of lights with rubber inserts and they fit perfectly in the oval holes punched into the metal. I would highly recommend this carrier over the other carriers out there.

Received two from Amazon and both were substandard in quality. The shipping cartons were ripped open and the first one had all the assembly parts missing. I did find one bolt out in the driveway. Very poor packing. Disappointing as this is supposed to be the cadilac of hitch carriers.

Very sturdy carrier! Looks great! The only problem is that it sits about 10 inches from my bumper. If I had to buy it again, I would get the same brand, but look for one that doesn't stick out so far.

After reading the reviews for (Rola 59502 2" Steel Cargo Carrier - 2 Piece) I went ahead and purchased it. The reviews led me to believe that the extra cost would be worth it.
But...
When it arrived it looked as tho it had been dragged behind the delivery truck all the way to my house.(yes, may not be Rola's fault, but there were no "sorry your item opened during delivery" stickers anywhere on the box.)
The company really should pack the item better IMO as every corner of the item tore open the box because it is just loose and flopping around all the way to its destination.
The pictures show reflectors on the item .. They were not on the item or in the box.
Also shown in all the pictures and the 2 page instruction is a hole for the hitch pin. Mine doesn't even have a hole. I will have to drill my own, which could be a real pain for someone that may not have the tools to drill 1/4 hardened steel. Would also like to point out a problem with 2 of the welds, 1 of them is broken, 1 is missing entirely. I will have to find and beg someone to weld these before I can even use it.
I would hope/It is possible that amazon is to blame for this and this was a return that they dumped on me rather than to think the company would ship an item so messed up.
So other than it arriving totally unusable...

Received my hitch carrier quickly but the packaging was a bit tattered and torn. Seems to me such a well made product would be shipped in a better quality box to protect the internal parts. Despite the poor packaging the carrier was in great condition and I was pleasantly surprised at the condition of the carrier.
After assembling the carrier; three pieces, extremely easy... Didn't even need the instructions, I immediately installed it on my jeep and loaded it down with camping gear. The carrier is sturdy with plenty of room for a weekends worth of gear. I installed a set of trailer lights, purchased from a different retailer, and a wiring kit; the lights snapped right into the holes provided but the wiring took a bit longer( ran the wiring through the tubular metal, FUN!) I even mounted the Thule bike mounts I purchased to steel pieces that can be removed so I can use the carrier a bike hauler. One negative side is that once installed you cannot open the rear cargo door of the jeep wrangler. This leads to some interesting loading and unloading arguments (:

Love this carrier, received many compliments on its looks, and questions as to where to buy

I love this cargo carrier. I use it for the excess luggage on long trips with my Escalade. Well built. I also purchased the taillight kit which fits perfectly in the recessed spaces in the frame. It does take 2 people to remove and install since it is a little heavy... but a quality carrier has to be a little heavy or it would only be a toy without the heavy tubing to support serious loads. Highly recommend for those that do not want to put heavy luggage on rooftop.

Took this from NC to OR. Great carrier/bag combo. Performed as advertised. Recommend to anyone with a hitch if you need to carry more stuff. Don't have to worry about wind resistance as you would with roof top carriers.

Great product, very heavy duty. The picture is a little misleading because I was dissappointed when I opened the box and discovered the lights were not included. Also the shipping box when it arrived looked as if had been in a fight and had lost. But other than that great product at a great price and Free shipping is another plus.

First off, as of this writing I have had my ROLA 59502 hitch cargo carrier hit from behind twice in the last 36hrs. Both impacts were at low speed and neither damaged my Toyota FJ Cruiser's hitch receiver or the ROLA itself. So far the score is...
ROLA - Scratched Paint
Nissan Armada - Torn front bumper cover, broken foglight
BMW 5-series - Broken headlight, damaged grille and bumper cover.
Now this is definitely NOT what I had in mind when I bought this unit, but ironically it has ended up 'paying for itself'. I purchased it online from a non-Amazon vendor for $200 shipped and they use only FedEx GROUND. I use UPS every day and can honestly say that UPS GROUND is not as big/heavy box-friendly as FedEx GROUND. In this case FedEx came through and the box arrived intact with all the hardware still inside. Assembly was pretty easy except that when I went to slide the two halves of the basket together one side's pin would not go all the way in because the tubing had some welding slag that had blown through during the manufacturing process when the mesh floor was welded to the frame. A few minutes with a large rat-tail file and it all went together just fine. I will be investing in some 3M Conspicuity Tape and the LED light kit in the very near future, and I HIGHLY recommend this cargo carrier to anyone looking for a hell-for-stout basket to carry just about anything. Keep in mind most people will not consider this unit 'lightweight' or 'convenient' as it weighs just over 60lbs full assembled.

I spent about a week looking at different racks online and driving to multiple stores and this rack is by far the most solid rack I could find. It is extremely well built and the light kit is a must for most vehicles. The only problem I could see is it is a little difficult to slide in the reciever with one person.

I did my research before buying this the Rola carrier. I looked around quite a bit and at first was a little hesitant to spend this much relative to the various other options for $50-70 less. I also was a little hesitant on this unit given that it weighs about 65lbs unladen and I wanted to reduce the additional weight to the vehicle by as much as possible. Despite those two concerns, I still decided to purchase and I'm glad I did.
Installation was a breeze. The only word of caution is that I had to buy 4 stainless washers to fit between the frame and the bolts that mount the basket to the support frame. Because of this I was about to rate this item 4 stars, but this is a pretty small detail, I just wish Rola had the hardware included in the kit. Perhaps mine were accidently left out, regardless, not a deal breaker.
We were able to load this carrier with ease and there are a ton of attachment points given the wire mesh bottom. The unit is solidly built and without a doubt I'm glad I went this route. I would add the following:
--As already stated, I had to buy 4 stainless washers to install correctly
--The optional light kit should be a must. Loaded it is a little difficult to see the tail lights and with tailgaters I have to constanly look in my rearview to ensure everyone notices the appendage sticking out of my SUV.
--I HIGHLY suggest buying an anti-rattle hitch-pin. We test fit without and I could see that it would rattle excessively without the anti-rattle pin kit.
I'm very pleased with this purchase and for those with Amazon Prime, you can't beat 2-day shipping on this heavy item.

This is a great product and we purchased it from Amazon due to the great shipping price. The only thing I would say that is a negative is that we thought it came with the light kit...which it doesn't. We purchased reflector stickers from the local auto shop to adhere on the outside.

I could rationalize 5 stars but not if the standard is no complaints at all. I'm confident this is the most solid cargo carrier I found. The minor assembly was easy. The raised arm is very nice. Only 2 complaints. The carrier should at least come standard with reflectors or at the very minimum throw in some reflector tape. You simply cannot safely drive with this without that. On mine there was 3 welds in the woven metal where it meets the outside edge that were not completely attached which is the main reason for the loss of one star and only one because despite that the bottom still doesnt flex at all in those places.

Item did not match the specs that I thought I was ordering. Below are the specs shown on order page.
Product Dimensions: 48 x 28 x 11 inches
Item was actually 56 x 23 x 5.25 inches
Item looks to be well built and will do the job I believe. Please change your dimensions so others do not have this problem.
Did not return because off the hassle involved.

I checked out a lot of different cargo carriers at different stores around town. I never saw the Rola in person until it was delivered from Amazon. Wow - I'm glad I spent a few more dollars and purchased the Rola. This thing is the "tank" of cargo carriers. This is a really well built, heavy duty product. The only drawback I can remotely think of is the weight of the product. Obvously heavy-duty items are going to weigh more, so this isn't a problem for me! I can install it by myself, but I would recommend two people carry/install this carrier as a team.

I looked and looked for the right cargo carrier and this is by far the sturdiest, most well built one out there. This thing is rock solid and looks sharp too. My only problem with using this is that people driving behind me are so bad that they forget its there or dont see it and 2 times I have been bumped with it on the back. No damage, the thing is solid steel, so it damaged their bumpers. Ha! Oh well, a great item.

Great carrier, I also bought the tailights that go with it. It survived two 10 hour road trips with no issues at all, and two pretty decent sized boxes strapped down on it. Not only is it functional, it looks professional- much nicer than some of the other options.

This tray is very well built, at 60 lbs it is not fun to lug around but I would rather have the quality. The assembly instructions are not that great. The bolts and nuts used to assemble the unit come in two sizes however they are very similar so I had some trial and error. It would have been nice to have a standard bolt or some sort of color coding. Like others, I am surprised it made it to my door complete as the packaging was in bad shape. It is described as a 2 piece; however, once you put it together you are not going to want to take it apart.

This is a sturdy and well-built carrier. Putting it together was pretty simple, although I didn't realize there were two sizes of bolts at first.
I can't give it a five because the box (and the Amazon pic) show it with the NOT INCLUDED lights. We have a Ford Edge, and my wife was very uncomfortable with it without the lights because she worried about the load blocking the lights on the car. So we had to wait to make a trip till after the lights (extra $$) arrived.
We've been using this to move my two college kids back and forth and it is really handy for odd-sized objects. Definately recommend it.

I just purchased a new Chevy Tahoe, and after trying to pack a bag into the back, I was having second thoughts about not getting the suburban. I started looking for outside storage and came across this item. This thing is awesome! It's built like a tank and the lighting kit makes it a breeze to install. It has a curve built in, so that it sit's higher than the hitch itself giving it much needed ground clearance. I loaded a bunch of weight on it and it didn't flinch. I felt good going down the highway with this thing in back, especially when I passed someone with the little harbor freight model almost scraping the ground. There's a little assembly, but it's no problem. The instructions are clear and easy to understand. Don't hesitate to spend a little money on this! In addition to the light kit, I would also highly recommend one of the silent hitch pins.
