Questionable quality, March 7, 2009
By KORAL ILGUN (Northern California)
|
|
It's a decent set as far as the contents are concerned. However, the chain tool broke during my first use. So, the durability is questionable. It's nice to have a case, but not every tool stays in their home location, they seem to pop out easily.
Haven't used every single toll in this set yet. It's an ok set for beginner home bicycle mechanic. If you want more life out of your tools, go with the Park Tool or a similar reputable brand (be ready to spend 3-4 times more $).

A toolkit that can be trusted, February 9, 2011
By luiboi_13

I would say that the quality may not be the best but it is enough to do a weekly maintenance on your bike. I have used this toolkit for a couple of months now and so far the strength is still there. I don't regret buying this because most of the tools I needed when I restored my bike is here. I was hesitant to buy this toolkit at first because of the comments from other users but then I pushed through with the purchase which was one of the best decisions I did because the toolkit never failed me. I will definitely recommend this to anyone who is into DIY because this will help you with most maintenance that you need on your bike.

Decent Bicycle repair tool kit...for the money, October 22, 2010
By Red Rock Mike (Southern, Ut)

If you are a hobby or do-it-yourself bicycle repair enthusiast with a limited budget this is the tool kit for you. The tools are functional and will get the job done but they are not what I would consider quality tools. I would definitely suggest that this be a supporting tool set to use in addition to a set of mechanics wrenches. Go with Park Tools if you have the cash or plan on using them for more than the occasional rebuild...otherwise these tools will get you by.

Pretty Good...For the most part, May 1, 2010

This tool kit worked great, has a bunch of tools, and allowed me to completely disassemble my bicycles. The Casette/Bottom Bracket tools were especially useful. The chain tool, however, is absolutely atrocious. It broke on my second use, as one of the threads on the inside of the tool managed to break, rendering it useless. Avenir Chain Tool
Other than that one faulty tool, the kit was a pretty good purchase.

I received this as a gift. The quality is great. Looks like the kit includes just about everything (and more) that the home bicycle repair enthusiast would ever need. Highly recommended.

I wanted a cheap tool set i could us to work on my bike while I was deployed to Afghanistan. After reading the reviews on this set I didn't expect to much from the set...but as soon i got it I put it to work and it has not let me down. I originally planned on selling the kit or passing it on to some one else but it will defiantly be coming home with me...oh yeah and the shipping to my APO address was extremely quick.

bike tool set, November 24, 2009
By Victor Garcia

I love this set. Has lots of specialty tools: chain link remover, cone wrenches, bottom bracket tools....
It cost me 50 dollars, and I am happy to have paid it. Buy this set first, BEFORE you buy individual tools!

Imitaion kit, July 27, 2011
By Ben Dows (RVA)

This kit has most of the tools a home mechanic might need. The problem is that these tools aren't made with accuracy to industry measurements. The splines on the free wheel removal tool don't match up with any of the free wheels that it should. The Crank removal tool broke the first time I used it. Wrench opening measurements are inaccurate causing a loose fit which chews up the nut or bolt head you're trying to tighten down or loosen. Don't waste your time with this cheap box of poor quality imitation crap. Find a reputable brand instead.

Avenir tool kit, September 17, 2011
By Soccerguy

I was on the market for a compact tool kit that was affordable. I chose this tool kit as I thought it had all the necessary tool included. I have to say that I am a little disappointed with the quality of the tools so far. The sizes are not accurate, such as the 15 mm and the 17 mm, they are a little big and you will run the risk of stripping various nuts on your bike. A 14 mm socket is not included in the kit. I do not know why, but many bikes use a 14 mm for the bottom crank arms securing bolts. There are better tool kits out there and I would not recommend this one.

Not a bad tool kit to start with, July 6, 2011
By JBro

I bought this kit just to have a tool base to expand from with my bicycles. They are not the best quality tools, but they are exactly what I expected for the price (good tools are expensive). I bought the kit knowing that I would buy replacement tools of better quality for the tools that break. After six months the tools that have broken or worth replacing:
-Chain tool had a defect and broke. After screwing and unscrewing a couple times, a washer that held the parts together fell out
-Lockring tightener is not made out of strong enough metal. The notch on the end bend after some force.
-Hex keys rusted. I left them outside.
-Tire pressure gauge is a piece of crap. Absolutely worthless from first day.
I have bought more tools to replace and expand on my kit, so this starter kit has actually worked out well for me. I would buy again.
**I usually don't go a week without saying "dang, I didn't even realize that I had this tool!" Realizing that I have a wheel spanner prompted me to write this review. Saved me a few bucks on buying one.

Works. Cheap., May 20, 2011
By Manapuaman

If you're on a budget, these tools will most likely work well enough.
They definitely aren't high end, but they are functional and should (they did for me) let you do most of the maintenance etc. that you'll need to do on your bike at one point or another.
All I really used this set for (so far) is replacing a bottom bracket, crank set, and cassette. Everything went smoothly, but make no mistake, you do get what you pay for. Most of the tools are made with softer metal than I expected, so I'm not expecting this set to last me more than a couple years or so.

Not professional grade but, a good tool set for the average do it yourself home repair person. Got exactly what I expected for a kit well under one hundred dollars.

Keeps bikes on the road., February 25, 2012
By TW (Texas)

Includes most of the tools I have needed to keep two bikes on the road for over 13,000 miles. If you have bikes, and had work performed at a shop, you know how expensive it can get. This product can save you a lot of money on maintenance and repair. Good value for this price, with free shipping. I would recommend this product to others.

Genuine POS, February 6, 2012
By MG

I intended to use this product more than once, but the chain whip, chain breaker, and crank extractor all broke during first use. Had what I needed and I squeaked through the repair (my first on my own bike), thankfully. This was the first of many items purchased on Amazon that I've had to return - I can't imagine a worse product. I'm still in the market for a decent price for a good starter set of tools. Any suggestions?

chain tool broke = unhappy customer, July 12, 2011

Set comes in a nice container at a good price. However, the chain tool broke the second time I used it. I am tired of purchasing cheap "made in China" merchandise disguised as quality product. Spread the word!
