5.0 out of 5 stars.  They should offer a larger diameter handlebar clamp., May 4, 2009
By bobert
It aint that hard to figure out without directions. There's only four bolts, two nylok nuts and four plastic molded pieces. I don't know what kind of plastic this material is, but without too much effort I had no problem prying apart the handlebar clamp. But I can see where it might be too tough for some. Believe me, if this clamp got stressed to the point of snapping you would know about it. The handlebar bracket was a sloppy fit, but wrappng a few turns of black electricians tape around the circumferance of the handlebar between it and the clamp took up the slop. No slop after I tightened it. Solid as a rock. Now, my handlebars are only 22 mm diam. close to the brake cable mounts and then it flares up to 25mm in diam. towards the gooseneck. So now you know what to expect. I agree they should offer a larger diameter handlebar clamp and print a diameter spec to go along with it.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Needs instructions and a longer screw..., August 27, 2008
By P. Whatley (Birmingham, AL)
Recieved item, it shipped without any paperwork (instructions). It came with two screws and nuts to connect a fixed piece to the bike, then it has another screw to connect another piece to the fixed mount on the bike. The screw for this piece was too short. You are able to connect it, but only about two threads catch. I went ahead and connected and put the PN-20 on it, but it was too loose. I had to go to the hardware store and purchase a longer screw to make it work.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Check your handlebar thickness before buying, September 28, 2008
By fjw (Warwick, NY)
I ordered this for a new road bike and was disappointed at the lack of documentation and that the cheap plastic bracket almost snapped when I put it on my handlebars. The handlebars were way too thick for the screw holes to line up even with a longer screw as the previous reviewer noted. There are no dimensions listed for maximum handlebar thickness yet there needs to be as newer bikes are larger.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Works great for cycle caching, July 23, 2010
By Dr. C
I bought this for my new PN-60. I guess it used to attaching using screws and a clamp, but now it uses zip-ties so it should attach to just about any diameter handlebar.

The GPSr is held tight in the bracket. So tight in fact that you'll want to remove the lanyard before you put it in. The bracket is easily removed with a simple twist, but it stayed in place even over rough roads.

It works great for me when I go out cycle caching. The PN-60 will even calculate a road route to the cache!

*** UPDATE ***
The little plastic pins that secure the GPSr holder the bike mount tend to break off. That means it doesn't last too long if you go on rough roads. I've had to buy two more mounts. It is still useful, but it needs a redesign to make it last longer.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Be careful when you remove the cradle from the mount, August 8, 2010
By musical chemist (Houston, TX)
I bought this a few months ago and have used it several times on long road rides. It's been working great for me for the most part. It has two main parts: a smaller mount piece which uses zip ties to attach to the handlebar or stem, and a larger cradle piece that holds the GPS. The cradle goes into the mount using the RAM mechanism, which is spring loaded and has plastic pins. The spring is very strong. If you're not careful when removing the cradle from the mount, some of the plastic pins can break. Why remove the cradle, you ask? In case you have a flat tire and need to turn the bike upside-down and don't want to cut off the zip ties. After one pin broke, the pin on the opposite side also broke, probably due to uneven stress when the GPS was bouncing back and forth while riding (there are four pins total). So now I'm buying a replacement mount because there's not really any other alternative to carrying the GPS on a bike besides putting it in a back pack. Good thing it's not terribly expensive.

The key to not breaking the plastic pins is to avoid rocking the cradle back and forth, ever. But it's kind of hard to avoid doing that when removing the cradle because you have to line up the pins with the holes in the mount. I think the bottom piece of the cradle that screws on to the part that holds the GPS should me made of metal, not plastic.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice product, May 31, 2010
By barry N. (Calif., USA)
Very well built bicycle mount. I was disappointed when I saw that the whole thing was mounted to the handle bars by zip ties, this part could stand to improved. But once mounted it hangs tight and works very well. I like the quick disconnct, makes it fast & easy to remove & snap back on.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Must HAVE item for any cyclist with a DeLorme handheld GPS, May 9, 2010
By Get Happy, Write Away (Columbus, Ohio)
I planned to buy one of these handle-bar racks when I bought the PN-30 GPS handheld. I received the unit and made sure that it would do what I intended and within a day I ordered the handle-bar mounting kit and the carrying bag as well.

The handle-bar mount is a universal fit device. It clamps to your handle-bar by the use of heavy-duty zip-ties and DeLorme provides a self-stick rubber sheet that you wrap around your handle-bar before attaching the unit. While it is a primitive design, it works flawlessly and I tested it on some rough road before I considered writing a review of the product. It has not slipped at all and the PN-30 is held securely at just the right viewing angle for me.

I would love to see DeLorme modify the mounting kit to make it easier to put the GPS handheld into the bar mount, but, it is so secure the way it is designed, so, I am pretty sure they make it the way they do to prevent the unit from accidently coming loose if you are mountain-biking or riding a rough road like the Pan-Am Highway.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  New! EZ-On attachment fits multiple handlebar sizes, May 6, 2010
By Jim
I took note of the reviews cautioning about the lack of instructions and the limit on the handlebar diameter supported, but I bought it even though I have a thick handlebar. I am glad I did. Right on the front of the packaging it says "New! EZ-On attachment fits multiple handlebar sizes" Sure enough, there were clear instructions and an attachment kit using zip ties (and form fitted parts) that would allow for any diameter handlebars. Installation was EASY and seems very sturdy. Do not hesitate to buy if you have a PN series GPS and want to cycle with it.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Not the best boke mount, August 17, 2010
By sbrhkc
Doesn't mount tight to handle bars with the zip ties making the mount move. Also, the 4 prongs that snap into the bike mount will break. Only lasted about 8 months.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  A Mount for all Ages, July 22, 2010
By Mr. Bigglesworth
I do like this bicycle mount.

It has held the GPS securely during my first 5 or so outings with it and I expect that will continue. The GPS snaps in and out of the mount completely - there is no part of the mount still attached to the GPS when I detach it from the bike, which I like. The snap-in/out process is easy enough once you get used to it. I initially though that the top 'clamp' of the mount might have trouble with the lanyard at the top of the DeLorme, but that is not the case. The 'holder' does not interfere with the display or the operation of the buttons - obviously good points.

The installation process is not as simple as I expected. The instructions could be improved with more/better pictures. My handlebars are much thinner than what the handlebar clamp will support, so this required that I wrap the handlebars with electrical tape to make up the gap (per the instructions). I also had to remove the handlebar grip and brake/shifter assembly from one side to get the clamp onto the handlebar. A two-piece clamp would have solved this, but now that's it's on, I expect that the one-piece design will prove less troublesome.

Overall a good product - you'll enjoy using it more than installing it.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  useful but awkward, November 25, 2011
By K. Carson (New Hampshire)
I purchased this mount to use geocaching with my Delorme pn60. It installed on the bike fine, although the zip ties are a bit Micky Mouse. It holds the gps in tightly, and you can access it easily while biking. I find that snapping the cradle in to the mount is easy, but out of the mount is not always easy. It is spring controlled, and you have to push the unit down against the spring and twist until everything lines up before it will come out. I have to take the unit off the bike many times to go after a cache, so this is annoying. You don't want to take the unit out of the cradle more often than you need to either, as the fit is very tight. I would buy this unit again because it does work an is economical.

GPS unit fits in real tight. I don't think I have to worry about loosing it bouncing over trails. Very happy with it.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  It's OK but it's the only one I could find, October 29, 2010
By Jim T. (Cornelia Ga)
I bought this to mount on my mountain bike and it works fine just the holder is not the same as pictured and is not as universal as I tought it would be. I guess it does the job though.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Marginally OK but others are clearly better, October 21, 2010
By puff1776
Just received. It's OK but only marginally so. Issues: only mounts permanently, mounts via plastic ties, rubber strip missing from package. I'll keep it but would definitely NOT recommend it. Main picture in listing is the $44 version. Detail pictures are of this product.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  If you do intermediate to serious mountain biking, don't waste your money!, May 6, 2012
By Daveless
I'm a fan of the DeLorme Earthmate, but this bike mount is worthless, unless you plan on riding exclusively on paved roads, or groomed dirt trails. Unless they have recently improved the mount (which I doubt), it attaches to the handlebars with zip ties. This alone was a red flag. You can't get the ties very tight, and the thing wobbles around and won't stay put. I outright snapped zip ties twice (due to vibration from a rocky trail). This was moderately annoying, but on another ride (again on fairly technical, rocky terrain), the plastic bracket that attaches the unit cradle to the handlebar mount snapped! It's also incredibly bulky compared with Garmin's low profile bike mount. Seriously guys...can't you come up with something better?

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Low quality mount, February 13, 2012
By Chris
This mount has a very poor design where it attaches to the handlebar. Moderate jarring caused the GPS to vibrate so much that within 5 rides it broke. There is a warranty, but it is a hassle and not worth the cost of postage to get the same thing back. Save your money and keep the GPS in a side pocket on a hydration pack.
