Security for your hands, June 29, 2009

Finally, the bar tape I have been waiting for: light, soft, strong (doesn't tear when being stretched) with just the right amount of padding. Fantastic. I bought the red, blach and white versions. It is also long enough to easily tape 46cm bars with tape to spare!

da Supercork!, February 8, 2010
By Carrion Crow (Missoula, MT USA)

So basically I was looking for some decent bar tape to wrap the bottom of my summer bars. I saw some Deda Elementi at my LBS but figured since I didn't really a ton of it I could go with something a little cheaper. So I ended up finding this SRAM tape, which I was definitely satisfied with. They send enough tape as well as some bar plugs and some black tape to finish your wrap. The plugs seem to work pretty well, I would recommend using a little of your own electrical tape to seal off the job-one tiny piece doesn't quite cut it. Overall, a great product, especially for the price.

SRAM Supercork Bicycle Bar Tape - Easy to wrap, great feel, nice price, August 4, 2010
By Reviewer
|
|
Bar tape isn't the most technical aspect of a bike but there are a couple reasons I'll be buying this product again:
Easy to wrap - The "SRAM" logo makes for a nice reference point when wrapping the tape. It was very easy to tell how much overlap I should use. Also, the side that touches the handlebar doesn't have glue or tape but rather a grip material, so if you need to re-wrap it isn't a problem.
Great feel - This feels about the same as most cork bar tape and there is plenty of elasticity to stretch thin and lots of length to wrap for a padded grip.
Nice Price - This pretty much speaks for itself.

Just another 5-star (non-)review!
I've never wrapped bars before... I used this video just to figure out which direction to roll
[...] (I googed "how to apply bike tape")
I had to re-roll once and that worked out fine, even with the sticky side.
One tip: the end where the plugs go, wrap the first cycle of tape so that it sticks over the edge... like half the tape overhanging the plug holes at the bar ends. That way when you're all done, you can smoosh the tape into the bar holes and then push the plug over the exposed tape. Really locks it in and makes it look pretty pro ;)
If you already know what you're doing, you can ignore me (or add to it), since you probably know a better way. But for me it looked really sweet. Makes me want to get more of this tape although I have no reason to do so...yet.

Almost Idiot-Proof, August 29, 2011
By Esquire (Oklahoma City, USA)

I can't compare this to any other aftermarket tape, as SRAM Supercork is the only tape I have used.
You could probably find tape with more padding, but what I really love about this tape its resilience. The first time I wrapped my bars, it took me several (somewhat embarrassing) tries to get it right, but even with my repeated wrapping and unwrapping, the tape didn't tear or lose color. In fact, that tape job lasted for several months.
FYI on my recent wrap, I used Fi'zi:k gel pads underneath the SRAM Supercork tape. It's very comfortable, but it makes the bars slightly bulkier. But since I wasn't relying on the bar-tape for padding, I was able to wrap the bars tighter so the tape would make it all the way to the stem.
Bottom line: this tape is excellent if you aren't excellent at wrapping bar-tape. Happy riding!

Great bar tape, July 28, 2011
By Clever Name Goes Here (Seattle, WA USA)

This is really nice bar tape. It is nice and comfy, has a not too sticky strip on the back, and comes with neat red "S" bar end plugs, as well as strips for taping behind your brake hoods. But wait-there's more- this tape is actually TOO long! I wish all bar tape was like this; you can wrap with a 50% overlap all the way up your bars and still have to cut it off when you are done-excellent! No worrying about getting to the end, only to have to back it off back to the start and adjust your overlap to have enough to finish- this has more than enough to go around!

Excellent Product, June 22, 2011

Perfect Tape
Not to thick and not to thin, Has 3m brand adhesive on the back, so its not some random useless adhesive.
Came with the shiny red bar ends instead of the generic black plugs.
Also the tape for finishing the wrap was color matched to the color I bought (white) which is a nice touch.
Seriously feeling like I got more than I paid for with this product.

I was looking for a good, medium-priced bar tape, and this one fit the bill. It was easy to apply, and forgiving if you messed up. While this tape isn't exceptional, it's more than adequate and gives a nice, cushioned feel. The only complaint is that they gave you just barely enough black tape to finish the wrap.

first time wrapping bar tape here.
what's included: plenty long bar tape. 3-inch strips goes under break lever, tape to hold the bar tape at the end, and the lid things that goes into the holes at the bottom end of the bars.
the tape itself is fairly cushy and it has sticky stuff going along the middle of the tape, which helps tape to stay on the bar.
i realized how poor my previous tape was, and i'm more than happy with this tape.

Awesome tape, August 16, 2010

I got this bar tape as a gift about a year ago and recently got in a wreck where I landed on my left drop. I purchased the same tape so that I did not have to redo my whole handlebar. The year old tape looks just as good as the new tape. I commute about 100 miles a week, so it gets uses a fair amount and I think it holds up really well here in the Midwest's extreme temperatures.

This white tape is great. I fell on my bike and roughed up the handlebar tape and got this as a replacement. Very easy to install and the comfort is great. Looks good with my bike as well.

Awesome Feel, February 24, 2012
By Btwilson907

Just put on my SRAM Yellow tape. Love this stuff. First time taping a set of bars. There was plenty of length to tape the bars. First side i was unsure of the overlap amount so I ran it down the center of the SRAM logo all the way down. That logo makes for a great guide. I had easily 12" left over. The other side i over lapped just a hair more and had about 3" left over. Super strong. I pulled and stretched TIGHT throughout the whole wrap. very cushiony feel. Probably just invented a word but you get the idea. I bought this tape because of the high reviews. I'm a review junkie - spoiled like that. Great reviews , 2 thumbs up. Brilliant yellow color. I'm going to try to include two pics of the taped bars with aero bars and bar end mirror (my bike) and another of the left over tape.

Best bar tape I've used, March 29, 2012
By consumer (Cincinnati, Ohio)
|
|
I read the reviews and decided to try the tape.
I have used Cinelli Cork, Cinelli synthetic gel cork, Fizik Microtex, Deda and Specialized double padded tape. They all are inferior to this tape.
The Fizik tape was the last used. Very thin, hard to wrap the curves, and overall not impressive.
This tape was easy to apply, simple to wrap the curves, and was long enough to complete the job with excess.
No need to double wrap or be concerned about vibrations. This tape is the cure.
I do use it with the Fizik bar gel, as per the recommendation of another reviewer. This combination is the best.
So, if you seek added comfort and cushioning, get the SRAM tape and the Fizik bar gel.
You will be happy.

Mine Came With Adhesive Backing, March 19, 2012
By The Squirrel (OH, USA)

Excellent cork bar tape kit (cork tape, finishing tape, bar plugs, cork tape shifter segments) but the finishing tape is lacking. Pick up a roll of colored electrical tape to finish and match your bar tape.
+Supple +Applies relatively easy +Durable (doesn't feel like it will tear easily but still stretches well) +Sufficient length (38 cm bars, had about 2 feet leftover) +Aesthetics (embossed SRAM name) +Bar plugs included +Finishing tape included +Adhesive shifter tape segments included -Finishing tape is short, lacking (feels like paper) -Tape came with adhesive backing which is unnecessary, the cork tape sticks on its own -Adhesive on the bar tape segments that go behind the shifters is poor - be sure to overlap or secure under the hoods well

Good bar tape. I have used better., April 18, 2012
By Texan-roadie

I recently purchased this bar tape and installed it on my size 44cm road bars. This product is good, but on rides over 20 miles rides I start to get numbness on my hand. Granted I should be wearing my gloves when I ride, but I have also recently installed XLC road bar tape on my other road bike with much different results. The XLC road bar tape was put on my steel frame road bike with absolutely no give. I can ride comfortably without my gloves on long touring rides. Sram makes a good product so for a few dollars more I decided to give these a try. If you are on the fence about buying this bar tape then I would go with the XLC bar tape. This bar tape isn't the worst bar tape in the world. It looks cool and stays on the handlebars. I just prefer the shock absorbance of the XLC.

Pretty Good for the Price, March 7, 2011
By Lambert

I purchased the blue one a few weeks ago, and it's really comfortable and soft. Seems like it's made of the material that might get dirty easily. Left the bike outside a few nights and there was a bit of dirt that I just couldn't pat away with my hands. When I hold the handlebars in one spot for a while, the color seems to fade a bit, but came back after a few days.

Loved the tape, it's comfortable and looks great. The finishing tape leave something to be desired but that's to be expected. The bar ends fit my modified handlebars, which was a releif because I wasn't sure they'd work. See a photo of them here: [...]

Great Tape, Great Price!!!, January 29, 2012

My bike is a mix of yellow and black, but I thought the yellow grip tape would look much sportier than the black that came with my bike. It does!! Comfortable grip, easy to install, and looks awesome. Plus it's SRAM, how could you go wrong?!

I had to remove and reapply this bar tape about 3 weeks after I originally put it on as I was changing the brake levers/hoods. The sticky backing is like a post it note and was easy to undo then redo.

Great bar tape!, November 21, 2011
By Pete Grizzles

Installation: Easy. Even for my first time wrapping bars, this tape made it a breeze. After watching a few how-to videos, I started wrapping my bull-horn bars. The cork tape is super stretchy and durable, so you can get a nice tight wrap and make it as think or thick as you like in any area. Comes with two pieces of white tape for securing the ends. This was the hardest part, but on;ly because I had never done it before.
Look: Looks amazing! Nice clean white color. After a month or so, only slight discoloration in the areas I keep my hands most often. Wipes clean with a damp cloth.
Feel: Soft and cushy. Has made a world of difference in the comfort of my rides.
Overall: Great bar tape at a good price. Also comes with nice new plugs for the end of the bars.

Installed this on my PD T2+ aero bars. Used only one tape. Cut it in half. At least I have a spare if i mess up.
Easy to stretch. Soft but firm. I would update my review once I get to see how sturdy this tapes are. Very satisfied with this buy. Will recommend. Fast shipping too!

Supercork!, May 22, 2012
By Matthew (CA, USA)
|
|
Ordered this tape in black and it is exactly what you would expect - good quality foam/cork bar tape with a mild adhesive strip on the back. I do not like too much cushioning so I wrap my bars relatively tight with about 40-50% overlap to create a nice smooth tape profile. This tape goes on easily and stretches around bends well. I did not notice the abundance of extra tape like some people have, but the length was adequate. As usual, finish with a few wraps of your own electrical tape, use the finishing strips on top of that if you like.

Nothing special, but definitely great tape for the price. I put quite a bit of tension on mine when wrapping and it never tore. One thing that I did like quite a bit was that the "SRAM" logo that is printed on the tape actually helps you align as your wrap! Good stuff.
