4.0 out of 5 stars.  Frustrating a bit, but I'm very satisfied, March 21, 2006
By NIB (Virginia)
The bike was delivered within two days of ordering. All necessary screws were there and nothing was bent. Sounds like a lot of people have had those problems before, but maybe they're doing a better job at checking these things before they ship. Anyway, I can't deny the fact that putting the bike together is frustrating and timely. I'd never done that before, but I am glad to know now how all the little gadgets work. It took me about 2.5 hours to put together (while taking a frustration break several times) but it starts to make sense after a while. Just read the manual carefully and REPEATEDLY. The ride is very smooth on this bike and the handlebars are super - you don't have to keep them at 45 degrees, put them where it feels best for you. Overall, I'd recommend this bike for someone who likes the challenge of putting things together, who has the proper tools to put this bike together (or can borrow tools from someone), and who is looking for a comfortable cruiser that has a nice look to it as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  The perfect bike!!!, October 4, 2005
By Rebecca A. Dickey (Salina, KS)
I love this bike!!! I bought this bike for comfort, style and its features. I spent about 4 weeks searching and researching entry level/budget friendly Comfort/Cruiser bikes and decided on this one even though assembly was required. It was exactly what I was looking for: higher and wider handle bars positioned so I can sit upright and not hunched over in the racing position, a wide saddle for ultimate comfort so I can focus on enjoying the scenery while I ride instead of discomfort, and a cruiser bike with hand brakes and more than one speed. I was overjoyed to find this bike has 7 speeds!!! Assembly was easy with the exception of some tweeking on the rear brakes. I took my bike to a local bike repair shop for that and the cost was minimal. The cost was worth it to me since I love the bike so much. Decals and fenders were in tact upon delivery but it was missing one front axle nut which was easily replaced at my local bike repair shop as well. I would highly recommend this bike to any woman looking for a comfortable ride with style.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Very Rad Bike, March 7, 2007
By Seana Y. (Los Angeles, CA)
I shopped around at bike stores and online for a cruiser bike. This is definately the best value.
It looks great, has gears, handbrakes, AND fenders! I found a similar one by Schwinn at Target for $10 more, but it didn't have fenders and the handlebars were too long so my hands weren't far enough in front of me. This one has the perfect handlebars.
It was easy to put together. It's just putting on the handlebars, seat, front tire, front fender and pedals. I didn't have to assemble the gears or anything. That was all done. The only confusing part was that the instruction manual was for several different kinds of bikes, and you had to read through a lot to get to the right bike. But if you're mechanically inclined, it's easy enough to figure out just by looking at the bike parts, which is what I did after getting annoyed with the instructon manual.
The only problem I had with this purchase is that it needed more padding during shipping. It didn't have any padding and a small piece was bent in transit. I was able to bend it back, but I knew I was taking a risk of that from reading the other reviews.

All in all, it's a fantastic bike. I have so much fun riding it. It's way more comfortable than a mountain bike. I put a basket on the front and it just looks great as a whole package. Other cruisers at bike shops were $300-$600. This is an amazing bike for the price.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Would have been beter off going garage sale/vintage, August 7, 2005
By hidingmyhands
My friend and I both purchased this bike. The bike was easy to put together, but the decals were falling off when I took it out of the box. The instruction manual is in no readable order. Both bikes had to have the gears worked on to stop them from trying to shift contstantly without the shift knob being touched at all.

Over all, I'm not happy and i think I could have done better buying a second hand bike.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  I LOVE THIS BIKE!, August 7, 2006
By Happy Biker (New York City)
I ordered this bike because I wanted the comfort of a cruiser bike, but I still needed to be able to get up and down hills. It took me about 1-2 hours to put together and the directions were a little confusing because the manual is actually for several different types of bikes. You have to flip through and find the instructions that pertain to this bike. While it was a little confusing at times, I did just fine. I took it to a bike shop the next day to make sure I had put it together correctly and to have them make any minor adjustments that were necessary. They gave it a once over, and all it cost me was $10.

I have been riding this bike constantly since then. It is so comfortable. I feel like I am a little kid again. I just ride around with a silly grin on my face most of the time. This past weekend I rode down the west side of Manhattan, then took the train to the beach at Far Rockaway to ride all the way down the boardwalk. I am sure there are other bikes that area lot better, but they coast a lot more. If you are looking for a simple, comfortable and inexpensive bike, this is it. I highly recommend it!

I hope this review helps you. Best of luck and happy riding!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Overall Deal, August 18, 2005
By dillydilly (Rochelle IL USA)
I am so pleased with my new bike. I'm 32 and it has been several years since I have done any cycling, but I'm determined to find interesting ways of getting my 10 month old daughter out and about. The bike was easy enough to put together. My husband & I put it together without any fights (and only a couple misleading instructions from the bike booklet). My front fender was slightly bent in transit, but I can cope. It's comfy, easy to adjust and takes the baby bike trailer with no complaints. Just the right price to aid my re-entry into cycling.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Ladies Cruiser Bike Value, August 24, 2006

For short neighborhood jaunts, this bicycle certainly fits the bill. We added a front basket and antique bell to customize ... Also, we took it to a local shop to adjust the brakes and gears a bit before regular use.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  All around great bike!, August 1, 2005
By A. M. Czarnecki (Chicagoland, USA)
I bought this bike for casual riding around the neighborhood, and a comfortable ride while doing it, and this bike fits those needs perfectly. There's nothing I'd change about this bike, including the seat, which I understand many people change in hopes of more comfort. Considering the look, the comfort, the durability and the price, I'd say you can't pass on this bike. In fact, I'm considering purchasing one each for my 50-something mother and my teenage daughter.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  PREPARE TO PAY DOUBLE, June 13, 2008
By Skophel
I have spent more money fixing this bike up than I did on buying it in the first place. It is badly made to a dangerous degree and I cannot stress enough how much you'll regret buying it.

I just needed a bike for a year while I lived overseas, so thought I'd save money on a super-duper bike and get this one - it looked pretty. Having assembled several bikes bought over the internet before, I decided to overlook the warnings in countless Amazon reviews that it was really difficult to put together. I wish I hadn't.

Not only was it difficult to assemble, but the seat shaft was damaged in transit so I had to wait for Pacific Cycle to send me a new one. They sent me a different part instead. So I waited some more. Once the bike was finally safe to ride, a nut came loose on my first ride, revealing that the pedals were dangerously badly made and the whole crank had to be replaced. I'm known in my local bike store as 'cash cow'.

I can just about ride this bike now, but the handlebars have a habit of sliding up and down, no matter how tight you fix them, and the chain fell off twice in one day of riding along a flat road. DO NOT BUY THIS BIKE.

While the customer service at Pacific Cycle was good on the phone and parts (albeit the wrong ones) dispatched swiftly, I have yet to receive a response to a letter of complaint I sent over 28 days ago. DO NOT BUY THIS BIKE.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  NICE PROODUCT - SLOPPY PARTS DELIVERY, January 29, 2006
By Daniel C (California City, CA)
Nice product, but..... Several screws were missing in the box. A part for the front fenders is missing. The "manual" is "generic" for many (other kind!) of bikes. Instructions poor at best! We still like the product but the seller has to do a better job delivering what you expect....

Again, made in CHINA!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Bend tire frame due to shipment (I assume), August 19, 2006
By Lana Fontaine (Brooklyn, NY, USA)
Got all parts of the bike when shipped; took about 45 minutes to put it together. The frame of the tire was bend, wheel wobbled, and the uneven part of the wheel thrusted against the brakes. Took it to a bike shop to fix that and put some air in the tires for $13. Over all a cool bike if you like the retro look, I also bought a basket and a traditional bell for the front; drove it for about 4.5 hours today, so far so good!

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Damaged in Shipping, June 17, 2007
By standis (Minneapolis, MN United States)
I never got to try the bike because it was damaged during shipping. The frame was substantially bent, and the return was too difficult. It's very different to return a large item like a bike rather than a book.

The shipping box was flimsy and did not protect the merchandise at all, and Amazon was not helpful in returning such a large, cumbersome item.

I was very disappointed with the materials and the bike.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice looking but you need a pro to assemble, December 26, 2006
By Trebor 1950 (Coral Springs, FL USA)
It is now 2 days after Christmas and I have yet to have this bike rideable. Spent 3 hours Christmas Eve and gave up at 3 AM. Missing a seat nut so riding this bike IF I had it assembled is impossible until I can go to a hardware store and buy a nut to attach the seat. The gear shifter indicator is worn and you cannot see what middle gears you are in. I have never owned a bike with hand brakes where you have to unassemble the pad assembly, re- assemble and basically adjust the brakes pads evenly. It cant be done. My friend tried his best too. The V brake assembly was never assembled according to the instructions at the factory. The brake pads are locking the wheels so free spin is impossible. I am not going to have a bike store fix all these problems as I should have purchased the bike from a reputable local bike store to begin with. I am sending this bike back as soon as I can contact the store. The brakes which are the most important part of the bike needs an expert to assemble. Why spend the extra money to have the problems fixed when you purchased partially pre-assembled? If you want an easy assembly, this is definitely not the bike of choice.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  BEWARE of Amazon Shipping Practices, May 5, 2008
By R. Thomas (Oregon)
If you order ANY bike from Amazon, Beware of the Shipping Damage. AMAZON has a contract with FEDEX that states FEDEX is not responsible for any Damages caused by shipping, and you have to take it up with AMAZON. This Means they can Smash it, and tell you "tough luck Call Amazon"

Call amazon and its the run around, ship it back 3- 4 weeks to look at it, a week to ok it, another couple weeks to replace it, and it comes via the same truck and driver that brought the fist one with the same answer.. sorry its mashed.. take it up with AMAZON.. go back to square one with are you sure it was damaged by shipping, etc.

Go visit a bike shop.. do not buy one from Amazon, unless you like buying a new damaged Bike.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice neighborhood cruiser., August 22, 2007
By Warren Z. (Long Island, NY)
The Shorewood arrived mostly assembled in a large box. It was partially disassembled and the parts that were removed were tie-wrapped to the frame. Assembly consisted of mounting the handlebars, the seat, the pedals, the fenders, and the front wheel. It is finished in an attractive dark blue metallic finish, with big white-wall tires to compliment its vintage appearance.

Adjusting the front brakes was a challenge because the front rim was slightly bent during shipping and has a very subtle wobble to it. The rear brakes and gear shifting system only required slight adjustment. The front fender arrived with a deep scratch but it isn't obvious once the bike was fully assembled.

This bike is very comfortable to ride. You ride in a straight, upright position. It is a seven speed, with a large padded "quick release" seat that can be instantly adjusted without tools. The gears are shifted using a dial on the right handgrip. The system works very well and shifting through all the gears was smooth. The bike conveys a solid feel without being overly heavy. As a guide, the shipping weight was just over 50 pounds.

This is a "neighborhood" bike, mostly confined to paved or smooth road use. It's perfect for those rides to town to run a few errands or to just take in some fresh air and get a little exercise. The Shorewood is also perfect for those who have difficulty getting on and off other styles of bikes as it is very easy to mount and dismount.

It comes with a large detailed manual that you will want to keep as a reference.

Low cost and very good quality make the Pacific Shorewood a nice purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  "Late" Mother's Day Present, July 5, 2006
By Michael Soto (Northwest, IN USA)
I purchased this bike for my 50+ year old mother. Bike took about an hour or so to assemble by just following the directions and thinking through the parts that I didn't understand. She enjoys riding the bike, but since it is a cruiser bike it did take a little getting use to. She wanted a cruiser bike so she wouldn't have to lean forward while riding and put pressure on her back. The only parts that needed tweaking were the brakes and the gear shifter. They just needed some loosening of some screws and tightening or slacking of the wires.

All-in-All, I am very satisfied with this bike and my mother loves it.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  She loves it!, August 1, 2010
By Derick Deg (Albuquerque)
I bought this bike from Amazon as a birthday present for an amazing woman, though mature, is very active, vivacious, exciting, and loves adventurous outdoor things that put the wind in her hair and a smile on her face.
She had been given a mountain bike that she rode, but I had to do many things to it to make it at all comfortable - none could make it all the way what she really wanted.
From all she said she wished that bike was, clearly a cruiser would be exactly that. I had to get one for her, but she would be extremely angry with me if she knew I spent too much. Fortunately, I didn't have to.

I pretty much knew when I saw this one it would do the trick.

There were a couple of small scratches on the left seat stay, but no other shipping damage. Not the end of the world, but that could have been better.
Assembly was easy and straight forward as most of it was already done in the box. The one downside is that there was no way the rear fender was ever going to work. No matter what adjustments, it rubbed hard against the (even un-inflated) tire just above the brake calipers.
I couldn't even find a way to modify it to make it work.
So I ended up leaving off both fenders. She didn't miss them, and how she rides, doesn't really need them anyway.

Once all adjustments and fine tuning were done, the huge smile I got from her made my month. She couldn't be happier if I had bought a bike 4 times the price.
It fits her (5'2") perfectly. She's never been as comfortable on any other bike. And now she loves riding even more than before. She beams as she rides. The seat, handlebars, girl's frame, uncomplicated SINGLE shifter gear selection, easy-riding tires, everything just makes her happy.
Therefore, me too.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Foot Hits Tire!!!! Do not buys this, you will be returning it!, May 12, 2009
By Marvelous Mama (Roseville, CA)
WOW! What a shock to have this issue with this bike. I had read the reviews on various bikes like crazy, and this one stood out far above the rest. I was so excited to get it...it was a cruiser, had gears, and was cute! What more could a girl ask for. Once the bike was together and I took it for my first test drive I ran into a little snag...I could not turn and peddle at the same time...my foot hit the wheel. Granted I am 6 feet tall, and have size 11 shoe, so it could be that I was just too tall for the bike. BUT, it did not work and we did have to return it. None of the reviews mentioned having this problem, so perhaps I am a freak. But, nonetheless, I thought I'd get the word out and save someone the cash.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice bike, especially for the money, May 10, 2009
By J. Watson (Chicago, IL)
I've been looking for a cruiser with 5-7 speeds and fenders and a chain guard, and this bike fit the bill. So far, it's been a great bike. One time third gear slipped while riding, so I'm keeping an eye on that. It's pretty and stylish. It came packed in a double box with no packing materials around it, and it turns out the front wheel was slightly bent - we only found out when adjusting the brakes. I called the company and they shipped me a replacement wheel (no tire) immediately, with no problems. I do not know how to put a bike together, so I asked a friend to do it for me and it took him about 2 hours. He worked for another hour putting on the accoutrement I like: lock, back rack with two folding baskets, front basket, lights and a bell. We had to go to the hardware store to get the right sized bolt to attach the back rack to the frame (down in the middle of the wheel) and get a couple of washers. I'm only 5'2" and usually the seat needs to be all the down, but on this bike it needs to be up higher. Overall, I like this bike quite a bit.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Easy Biking, July 28, 2008
By P. McDaniel (Idaho)
I like my cruiser! My husband assembled it and he had to do some minor adjusting on the gears, brakes, etc. He is very capable so my bike does great. I think I will replace the seat with a higher end model. It is OK and relatively comfortable, but I can see it won't last for very long. I will also get a basket for small items. I like the look and the tires are cool. The price was right for an entry ("just see if I will use it") bicycle. I am using it and liking it. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Good Bike -- Packing Problems Solved, July 25, 2008
By Linda Watson (Ohio, USA)
I got this bike and my husband put it together in less than 2 hours. No problems, but he's kind of handy with things like that. It would have taken me longer, no doubt.
The insufficient packing mentioned in other reviews that resulted in dents and dings has been upgraded. The bicycle was packed in a not-so-sturdy box that was inside a nice sturdy box. With the double packing, someone would have to try hard to damage the contents.
The bike is a dream to ride; very comfortable. If you live where it's extremely hilly, you might want more gears, but it's perfect for the flat terrain where I live.
Oh, and it's beautiful!!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Take it to a bike shop., July 23, 2008
By Jessica Gilfillan
This bike came faster than it was supposed to, and was assembled within an hour.
I took it to a bike shop to get the kinks out, it was missing one screw, and the fender was a bit bent.
After they fixed any kinks and pumped the tires, I was good to go. I've been on quite a few 6-10 mile bike rides, and everything works safe, the gears are great for my hilly area, and I'm very satisfied.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  A good cruiser bike for the price, May 29, 2007
By TM (Bethesda, MD)
I recently bougth this crusier bike. Putting the bike together was fairly easy, except in my case the front wheel rim was slightly bent (probably due to shipping) which added some trouble. I called the custumer service and within a week they shipped a new front wheel rim without any trouble or hassle. I quickly put on the new rim and tire. For the price the bike is great, it is very comfortable and easy to ride. My mother who hasn't ridden a bike in several years took a 2 mile ride on it and was very pleased. Great bike for the beach.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  You get what you pay for, August 17, 2010
By Kim Feay
My husband bought this for me as a birthday gift. It arrived shortly after ordering. The seat is comfortable, as are the hand grips. As I will only use this to ride around our small town, the price is OK for running it into the ground. The decals on the frame were scratched, but this isn't for a fashion show, so I don't mind. The blue is is really pretty.

The manual included instructions for 2 different types of bikes, and having never built a bike before, it was confusing. The fenders are the wrong size for the tires; they barely cover the width, and scrape the tires no matter how I adjust them. Part of the back fender was bent over on itself, over the screw, so I had to disassemble the back tire to unscrew and flatten that part.

The rear left brake pad kept rubbing on the tire, without the brake on. After fiddling with all the tensions to no avail, I took it to the bike shop guy. He said the frame of the bike was not meant for hand brakes, only for back-pedal brakes. He finally got the tension right by switching the order of the washers on the brake pads, although it is already slipping back to the old tension. It is still a little loose, but both front and the right rear pad are fine, so I just won't speed downhill.

I won't order a bike online again. Next time I will invest $50 more and get a nicer one from the local bike shop.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Complete Disaster, July 6, 2009
By Kelly0423
Despite some of the complaints I read in other reviews, I went for the bike anyway. It arrived with most of the bolts missing. After a trip to Home Depot and calls to 2 engineering friends, I brought it to the local bike shop. Apparently, the manufacturer pre-assembed it backwards and the entire bike had to be taken part and put back together. One day in the rain, and it has already rusted. I guess you get what you pay for.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Worst Purchase Ever!, September 27, 2008
By glass half full (Raleigh, NC United States)
I was looking for an inexpensive cruiser for my sister for her birthday. I did my research, and decided to order this bike. The reviews seemed to be split, but I tend to be optimistic and was confident in my ability to follow directions for assembly.

The bike arrived quickly. First of all, the bike does not ship with a list of parts included for assembly. Secondly, the instruction manual that accompanies this bike is not specific to this bike. Parts of the bike were bent and broken even though the box it shipped in didn't look damaged. Because I didn't have a parts list, I didn't know that PARTS WERE MISSING, so I spent hours trying to assemble this bike with a generic instruction manual and missing parts.

Finally, I had to resort to taking the bike to a local bike shop where I spent $90 more for parts and adjustments to make it safe to ride. I would have sent it back immediately if not for my sister's bday being that same week. After all the hours of frustration and additional money spent, the bike sure looked pretty. However, it rides awful! We disassembled it, shoved it back in the box and shipped it back to Amazon. Good riddance!

How disappointing that Amazon would carry a product like this! Don't buy it. Don't do it. YOU WILL REGRET IT.

I love this bike. It is perfect for a college student to get around on. It is a wonderful color. I call it peacock. It shimmers in the sun like a crystel. It was easy to put together. Easy to ride. PERFECT!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Decent bike, but NOT for ladies 5'1" or shorter., September 8, 2007
By F. Harris (Carpinteria, Ca.)

This bike is a decent cruiser for the money, and I feel I got the quality I expected. It's MARGINALLY OPERABLE for my wife who stands 5'1" tall. If you are that height or shorter, DO NOT buy this bike.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Inside only bike?, August 30, 2009
By Lars M. Hansen (Revere, MA United States)
The bike got wet in the rain. Now the entire handlebar is covered in rust, and we've had the bike for less than 6 months... Add to that the difficulty in putting the thing together due to the lack of proper instructions in the manual (which is not specific to this bike), it's hardly worth the $$

5.0 out of 5 stars.  I can ride my bike with no handlebars :), January 11, 2011
By C. Gomez (IL)
I bought this bike past summer...I have been everywhere with it. Every time I need to go to school I bike, I bike to the dentist, to the doctor, meetings with my boss, best part is I hadn't had a bike in 10 years. Keep in mind these things are being shipped from far away, mine came with a small bent on the fender that we fixed by tapping on it from the inside with the handle of a screw driver, so it was not a big dent or anything. It came with no scratches so I was amazed. I'm only 5'3 and it is not on the lowest setting but close to it, and I can still reach the floor comfortably. I took part in the chicago naked bike ride (mind you I was dressed) though I am not a fit person, and this bike is not for long rides, but I finished all 14 miles, and yes I could not sit down for two days but I am aware my bike is not made for extreme long rides, neither am I. I am not a bike enthusiast, I only use my bike for recreation and transportation to school, and it does swell on that, now if you are some sort of racer this bike is NOT intended for that, its a cruiser!

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Pacific shorewood Woman's Cruiser, September 12, 2009
By Red Dog Lover (Williamsburg, VA)
For the money this is a pretty good bike. The dificulty in putting it together was a 4, things were bent and had to be corrected. Once all together, the bike had problems moving another bent part that had to be fixed. It still makes a clicking noise when being peddled from the gear area. I guess you get what you paid for. My daugher only uses this bike when here on weekends, so it is OK for that. I would not buy this if this is a daily use bike. My mom always said, " you get what you pay for" This statement would apply to this bike.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Adorably retro, July 7, 2009
By In XS (Arlington, WA United States)
I was looking for an inexpensive bike for exercise and find out if some biking would fit in my life. This one fills the bill. However it does have some flaws. It doesn't feel very sturdily built and even my size 8 shoe touches the front fender on turns. Also my right heel brushes the chain guard. Maybe bikes are like shoes; you should try them on before buying. Also, after shipping and having it assembled at a bike shop, it cost just as much as a fancier Schwinn [...]. Overall though, it does the job and looks great. If I end up biking a lot, I'll shop more carefully for a replacement.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Not thrilled, August 3, 2006
By Laura T. Sialiano
If you are into aesthetics and have an old fashioned sensibility...it's hard to resist the retro design of this bike.

However, I will reiterate that this bike was hard to put together. There were a number of screws missing, and you have go out and buy a sized wrench that most people don't have...(it's funny I bought a $35 dollar bike lock and they provided all the necessary tools in the shipping)
The other huge problem was that the brakes were misaligned. And the front tire kept hititng the front brake making it impossible to ride. It took my boyfriend and his friend about two hours to fix this problem. An expert could have done it faster but lets face it if you have a lot of money to pay a bike shop you wouldn't be buying this bike.

Also, this bike is longer than a regular bike...which can be a problem if you have any storage space issues.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Disappointing quality, January 4, 2011
By A Customer
Quality and ease of assembly are disappointing. Fenders came bent and rub tires (I just removed them); brakes are difficult to adjust; chain pops off and gears need adjusting. I am left with decision of returning or paying local bike shop to repair...
My frustration increased by fact tha this same bike was retailed at loacl HEB Plus store for less than $90.00!

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Worst bike ever, December 15, 2010
By A Customer
This bike was shipped with no assembly instruction. The manual that came with it had no reference to Pacific Shorewood bike that I purchased. Rear fender hits tire, there is no adjustment in this bike. I am a very handy man and have assembled many bikes but this one is a defective product, it cannot be assembled as described by manufacturer. Customer service very useless and didn't take any accountability, they claimed that problem is that rear wheel is bent but couldn't get replacement part. Overall very bad experience. I am returning this one and will never buy anything from Pacific Bike.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Cute is not enough, May 28, 2008
By A Customer
Due to such poor packaging, one of the wheels was slightly bent and one of the fenders was even more bent out of shape. Both the front and back brakes do NOT work as they should. The front brakes do not fully release back to their starting position after squeezing the handle bar brake so then it rubs against the tire unless you reach down and manually adjust the brakes away from the tire. The back brakes look as if they work fine until you go to ride the bike. The back brakes did not stop me whatsoever. If they were all I had to rely on, I'd be in serious trouble.

Bottom Line: It's a very cute beach cruiser style bike at a great price BUT I wish I would have spent a little more money for a better quality bike. Pay the extra cash for a safer, better quality ride everyone!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Really nice Bike, December 31, 2009
By T. Munson (Cameron,NC USA)
My husband bought me this bike for my Birthday. We ordered it from Amazon because we have never had any issues with anything ordered off of Amazon. It came within three days I didn't pay for fast shipping ! My husband put it together in about 20 minutes. I took off riding around the yard, we made a few minor adjustments to the seat and handle bars. What a nice ride ! Thanks for quick delivery and a really nice bike ! T.Munson

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Very happy with this bike!, November 1, 2009
By Melissa (Bronx, NY)
First of all, I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly this bike arrived. It was supposed to get here on a Tuesday, and actually arrived on the previous Saturday. The box it arrived in was a little worse for wear, with some gouges and tears that went through to the inner box. Nothing was damaged, really, but some parts of the bike did sustain some scratches, which was kind of a bummer.
The bike itself, though, is great. After reading reviews of people who had difficulty assembling the bike, I decided to have my local bike shop do it for me. It cost some money, but the bike was inexpensive, so I was fine with that. I rode the bike home from the shop afterwards (over a mile) and I'm so happy with it! Not having ridden a bike in years, I wasn't sure what to expect, but this bike is great. The seat is cushy, and the angle of the handlebars is perfect - I was able to sit up straight and comfortably, with no stress on my back. The gears shift smoothly, although the "twist shift" is taking some getting used to.
The bike overall is surprisingly good, especially given the low price. It feels nice and solid, it's very comfortable, and it looks great! Amazon needs to work on their packaging to avoid cosmetic damage to the bike, but all in all, I'm super happy with this purchase, and the bike itself!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Fabulous Purchase, August 23, 2009
By Happy Shopper (Windsor, Colorado)
We purchaed the Pacific Shorewood Cruiser for our daughter. We originally went to a local bicycle store and she picked out and rode the bike. It was priced at $269.00. We wanted to shop around before we purchased the bike, so we came home and started researching. Amazon was by far the lowest price. My husband is pretty handy and put the bike together in about 30 minutes. The bike was packaged well and had no scrathches on it and all the parts were in the box. It is a really pretty pearly blue, rides nice and smooth. This was a great experience and we will always check with Amazon before we make a large purchase. By the way the bike arrived in 3 business days.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  I love my new bike!, March 3, 2009
By Joy (Fort Worth Texas USA)
The Pacific Shorewood Cruiser Bike is awesome. It was in great shape and is comfortable and fun to ride on streets and trails. I am very pleased with the looks and quality of bike I got for the price. The only downside was that it was difficult to assemble and required tools that we didn't have. The directions were difficult to understand and included information about other types of bikes which made it much harder. I ended up taking the bike to a bike shop to adjust the brakes.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Pleased rider, September 2, 2008
By Arthur B (Chicago, IL USA)
Came promptly and in good shape.
Having some (remote) experience with bicycle assembly, getting it in riding shape was not too hard and the directions were good. The hard part was determining which directions went with the purchased model.
Riding has been a pleasure for this casual recreational rider.

By pjh (NC)
Bike really came quickly, but packaging wasn't great. Some minor scratches and dents. THANK GOODNESS I had a friend who is a real bike fanatic. After much adjusting of rear wheel for whobble, and problems with the rear brakes, I finally took a ride. I love the way the bike looks and rides, but if I didn't have a friend!! I would never have gotten it together. Novice bikers beware!

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Cool styling, disappointing quality, August 2, 2011
By A Customer
I liked the styling of this bike, and based on the reviews available I went ahead and ordered. It certainly is a cool style, but any less than superficial examination shows how cheaply made and finished it is. The frame welds are rough, neither wheel would run true, the shifter is clunky, and 6 months in the derailleur is already showing rust (never been rained on, always stored inside). The pedal cranks are roughly-forged bent steel rods, chromed and slapped onto the bike.
I regret not spending a little more, and getting a better quality bike...

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Stylish bike, my 10yo loves it., May 29, 2011
By Ginger (San Antonio, TX USA)
We bought this for our 10yo girl, we were a little worried it might be too big for her, but didn't want to buy another bike that she would outgrow in a year so we took a gamble. It fits her great, she was up and riding on it as soon as my husband assembled it. She loves the color, and that it's a "grown up bike". I like the styling, it's a pretty blue with a kind of silvery tint to it, and white accents on the tires and mud guards. Great bike for the price!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Rides well, easy to put together, some oddities, January 8, 2011
By S. Xia (Chicago, IL United States)
It's a very smooth ride, and I like the cruiser feeling couple with the handiness of 7 speeds and hand brakes.

Putting it together was pretty intuitive -- You have to screw on the pedals, and slot in the handlebar column and the seat column, and the front wheel. The hardest part was adjusting the brakes after putting in the front wheel, and that was relatively straight-forward.

However:

It may be just my bike, but the front fender didn't fit! Specifically: the front fender loose would fit around the wheel, but the front fender attached left not enough space for the wheel. So I just removed the front fender. Right now there's about a 1/4 inch clearance between the front wheel and the surrounding bars.

Also, my left pedal loosened and came off after biking for about half an hour. It's probably just a fluke of manufacturing or something. Replacement pedals are pretty cheap, so it's no biggie.

Aside from those two problems, the rest of it was pretty awesome.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  decent bike, December 21, 2010
By amorris
you get what you pay for with this bike. it looks ok but feals very cheap. the chain guard and fenders have to be bent into place due to poor packaging, they are made out of very thin sheet metal so its easy to bend. the only things that need to be installed or tightened down are the seat, handle bars and neck, pedals, fenders, and the front wheel. i also needed to adjust brakes. it rides nice but i doubt it will last more than a couple years without needing a chain or spockets or crank bearings. i wouldn't be suprized if the fork bent on this thing too, just from normal riding. thanks china!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good deal!, May 9, 2010
By C. Kelly (Canada)
I recently got this bike for my birthday. I love the colour and find the handlebars nice and wide which makes it comfortable to ride. I'm happy with the bike and recommended it to a friend. It is perfect for around our hamlet and some recreational biking. I do not find the seat very comfortable though and I'm going to switch it out. My husband assembled it. We are having problems with the back breaks; they aren't working quite right yet. One fender came with a small dent from shipping but I think a few dents are to be expected. I was excited when it arrived sooner than the website predicted.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Amazon got it right the 2nd time around, May 28, 2009
By Jessica Kopp (Columbus, OH USA)
When I ordered the item, I received the shipment within a few days as expected. Unfortunately it did not contain the seat and one of the tires. Shocks me to think that Amazon does not have a Quality Control check. It might save them some business..as I have no intention to buy from them again. Nonethess, I had to wait a few days for someone to pick it up for a return and another few days for another bike to be shipped. Overall, I'm happy with the bike (as I had a $50 gift certificate to help with the purchase). If I had to pay full price, I would have been upset as the bike comes with scratches and bent fenders from shipping.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice Bike, September 13, 2007
By Cynthia Kayter
I really like the Pacific Shorewood Beach Cruiser. I think it is a nice comfortable ride. My only complaint would be that it is really squeeke and the tires tend to go flat every couple times I use it. I really do love it and if those two things didn't happen I would have absolutely no complaints because I am getting a great deal of use out of it. I want to get my friend one and they have no more in stock and that is also a problem. I loved that i could find such an affordable bike and have there be no shipping costs. i have been referring all kinds of people to Amazon. Thanks and let me know when you have more of these bikes in stoke please.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Almost perfect, September 9, 2009
By rbp (San Francisco, CA)
I bought this bike for my girlfriend, who wanted an inexpensive bike for 20 minutes ride to and from work.

The bike arrived in just 2 days via Amazon Prime (free shipping, which is great, considering how much it weighs!), and there were only two small problems with it:
1. the left brake cable and left break handle had been scuffed from rubbing.
2. a bolt was missing for the front fender

Putting it together was a snap, but I can imagine that it would be frustrating for someone who doesn't know their way around a bike and tools.

The biggest complaint I have is with assembly is getting the brakes properly dialed in. The rims are not perfect, so the brake shoes had to be slightly wider apart than I would prefer. Expect to spend 30 minutes getting the brakes tuned.

I ordered this bike thinking it would be big enough for me. I'm 5'9" and thought that it would be big enough. I couldn't be more wrong. With the seat all the way up, my knees still get caught on the handlebars. Its a very cute bike and I would recommend this model...as long as your under 5'6" tall!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  So far so good, April 22, 2012
By AK Mom (KTN, AK)
Received this bike about 10 days ago. It is a good buy for the money. It's heavy and has lower-quality parts (shifters/etc.) but for the price it's exactly what I wanted. It was hard to find a cruiser with gears, and the 7-gears are handy for biking to work. I bought a basket, rack & cute panniers and enjoy the retro look. The tires are fatter than a "comfort" bike, and I like the look of the cruiser handlebars over the straight ones.

If you want an inexpensive cruiser that may not have the quality for years of use, but is easy to assemble, fun to ride, and looks good, this is the bike.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  OK but be careful, October 2, 2011
By whatever (cali)
My mom and I assembled what we could - directions are vague. Then I took it across the street to a neighbor who is both a car and bike mechanic. He is a perfectionist so he's a great choice for input. The frame was bent in the back so he had to manipulate the back wheel in order for it to be centered. The assembled back wheel was assembled incorrectly. The fenders do not have a lot of clearance. The pedals do not really spin. All the parts needed lubrication (i.e. the kickstand would not move). In other words, you get what you paid for. I like it though so I'm going to give it a chance.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Satisfactory!, August 28, 2011
By DW (Boston, MA)
This bike definitely satisfies my needs and I get compliments from strangers (seriously, more than once, independently) on how awesome it looks. I ride it 2.5 miles to and from work each day.

The cruiser style is great for me because I'm sensitive to having wrist issues, so leaning forward on the handlebars would be bad news. Because I assembled the whole thing (pride point!), I could adjust it to be just like I wanted it. It's true that the manual that comes with it is not specifically designed for this bike, but it seemed pretty straightforward to me; the frame is already assembled with the gears on it, so assembly required attaching the handlebars, seat, front wheel, fenders, and pedals, and then adjusting the brakes and the derailleur (instructions for this were pretty clear in the manual).

It did not come with all the necessary tools (but it didn't say it would). I needed a hex wrench, a normal (adjustable) wrench, and a screwdriver (and scissors or a box cutter or something to cut apart the zipties in the packaging). I mostly put it together in a night (~2 hours) then did the full tightening (super important!) the next day when I could be riding it around the block in between adjustments. Things that required my attention included:
1) the plastic pedals must be TIGHTLY screwed into the metal shaft (they screw in opposite directions for left and right so that the act of pedaling can't untwist them, but if not tightened sufficiently, when standing up on the pedal, the plastic piece angled itself within the metal shaft, skipped a thread, and started to unscrew itself. Unscrewing it and replacing it more tightly worked great- haven't had a problem since)
2) The brakes- they were pretty easy to adjust- it was a 3 minute endeavor of actual brake adjusting. I did have to push the brake cable on the handlebar through a thin metal foil that should have already been severed, but it actually would have done that on its own if I hadn't realized that needed doing.
3) The handlebar shaft (the first time I rode it, I turned the handlebar 60 degrees and the wheel turned 30 degrees). That bolt has to be tight as well. Again, once I tightened it, it's been great.
4) The derailleur- this took the majority of the time I've invested, but the bike was quite functional even before I invested this time. Out of the box the bike switched gears successfully, but not immediately when the gearshift was twisted, and not always with just one click, so I couldn't access all of the gears (I had gears 1-6 but it would often skip 3 and 5)Twice in the course of two months, when I was pedaling hard and trying to change gears quickly, the chain came off the gears. It was easy to get back on, but it was annoying to have to stop riding to do it, so I invested the time on the derailleur. Spending 45 minutes iteratively adjusting it just like the manual said to do (bike flipped upside down of course) spiffed it right up and now the gears shift with one click, right when I turn the shifter. It's excellent.

Packaging was fine- the box was heavy but nothing was damaged upon arrival (the one of the fenders was bent like 1 cm away from its ideal position, but it was easy to bend it back just using my thumb). The seat hasn't been a problem for me at all- I didn't even get that "I haven't ridden a bike recently" bruising after the first few days of riding!

I'm really glad I got this bike- putting it together was a good experience (and not even too challenging), the price was better than craigslist (and for a new product with no rust and no travel and no risk of people flaking), the shipping was quick, the style and color are good, and having a bike is a wonderful thing!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Stylish low cost cruiser bike, August 14, 2011
By Michael O (Chicago)
My 16 year old daughter decided to buy a cruiser bike with her babysitting earnings, so we looked for inexpensive cruisers on line. She's very practical and wanted to have the right cost/value balance- this bike is for riding around the neighborhood, to field hockey practice, and just having fun, not for heavy duty road riding or to last the rest of her life. So after reading lots of reviews we chose this one.

The bike arrived in a very sturdy double layer box which I opened to reveal lots of partially assembled components carefully wrapped and secured. It took a while to get it all laid out and check for parts, but everything was there. Although basic assembly only requires a couple of screwdrivers and an adjustable wrench or two, adjustment of the brakes, etc. needs allen wrenches of various sizes. The assembly instructions were adequate to get the job done, but I wouldn't recommend assembling this bike if you are not at least a little familiar with tools and bicycle components. The reason is that (at least for the bike we received) quite a bit of adjustment of the brakes was needed and the brake assemblies are fairly complex and fiddly. Full instructions are included for adjusting the brakes and gears though, and they were very clear.

While this bike does not have the fit and finish of a Trek or Schwinn, it is very inexpensive. Overall we think it is a great value and my daughter is very satisfied with the ride and the styling (always important to a 16 year old girl). I doubt it will last 10 years, but at this price I wouldn't expect it to. So if you can put a bike together, make the right adjustments and only need the basics, this is a good choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Bike, Easy to Assemble!, July 11, 2011
By Mom2Shiloh
After reading the reviews for assembly, I was a bit apprehensive about giving it a try. I even contacted a local bike shop to get quotes on assembly when researching purchasing this bike.

When I first got the bike, I opened the box and inspected all the pieces and parts and was pleased with the way it was packed and there was no damage...

I assembled the bike myself with my 20 month old son climbing on my back and throwing balls and toys at me the whole time...so it probably took me a little longer than it should have. It took me a total of 1.5 to 2 hours, which I didn't think was too bad considering all the breaks I took. I don't have experience doing this, but I think it's not too bad to assemble (from not too easy to a little challenging). The directions were a bit foreign (they use all the standard names and terms for the parts, so if you don't know what a caliper is as I didn't...Google will be your friend), and I had to read them section by section a few times before it made sense, but I figured it out...correctly...

I think my only major annoyance was the fact that I needed different sized hex keys to tighen different parts...I had no idea what a hex key was, and had to go to the store to get them...I'm not sure if that's considered a "standard" tool, but it sure wasn't in my husband's tool box...

Also, one thing that I did appreciate was the fact that the chain is already assembled. (The back wheel is already assembled to the bike frame)...My husband told me that he had to assemble a bike in the past, and that was the most frustrating and difficult part for him, so I was VERY relieved to know that I didn't need to fool with that...

Overall, it was a great experience, and I've enjoyed riding my bike through the neighborhood and on bike trails. I get lots of compliments, as people love seeing the retro design and especially the white wall tires...My next purchase is to get a wicker basket and bell to complete it! ;)

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Fun To Ride, October 26, 2010
By Linda Fullmer (New Orleans, LA USA)
I love my bike. It rides smoothly and it's perfect for my purposes...to ride and view the sights. Had some issues putting it together. The front brake scraped the tire and was very difficult to adjust.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Love this bike!!, July 30, 2010
By JoAnn
Ladies, if you are looking for a really cute bike, this is the one. The white wall tires, and white fenders give it a really neat 'retro' look....I've had compliments everywhere. I plan to put a basket on in the future to complete the look (wicker maybe?). I looked at several bikes, and chose this one because I don't feel comfortable hunched over on the road bikes, and mountain bikes didn't really suite me either.
I put this together on my own....instruction booklet is confusing, but you can figure it out. The only problem I've had is the adjusting of the front brakes....can't seem to get it just right. I'll have to keep working on that one...haven't had any other problems.
This bike is a joy to ride and I highly recommend it :)

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Satisfied. Doesn't fit baby bike seats too well out of the box., May 28, 2009
By Emily S. Owen (Preston, Idaho)
I'm 5 10, and I really think they need to make bikes for taller women, but this one fits okay. I have an 18 month old and I was going to buy the front mounted seat for this but there is no way that will fit, there is no room to spread your knees because the handle bars are bent inwards more then you can see on the picture, I also didn't buy it because I wouldn't be able to see the road where the tires are. I also have carpal tunnel in both hands and the handle bars aren't ergonomically correct, if you have problems with that, they aren't spread out wide enough.

I did buy a rear mounted baby seat, if this is what you want to do, be advised that you will not be able to install it and go, the base of the seat where the baby seat connects is too low on this bike since it's not a standard design and you'll need to go to a bike shop and hope they have a c-clamp that attaches to the pole of the seat (take the seat bar with you to get the right size), I went to my local bike shop and they tried to screw me so don't pay more then a few dollars for the part.

The bike is pretty, I'm a mechanical person so I didn't have too much of a problem getting it put together, you may need to adjust the front brakes, they rubbed a little bit too much until they were adjusted. Also the fenders like to make noise while you're riding down the road, and the front one was slightly bent, nothing that isn't fixable.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Once adjusted, is the Cadillac of bicycles!, May 22, 2009
By L. Schick (Fargo, ND)
Packaging was just OK, there were loose hardware pieces in the box. The bike was double boxed but the fenders were still bent and there were a few scratches in the paint.

I did have to take the bike to a bike shop to have the brakes and gears adjusted; they also had to tweak the fenders to keep them from rubbing on the tires.

Once adjusted though, it's really a smooth ride! Love my new bike.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Wasn't worth the money!, May 23, 2010
By Jennifer Malcom
I just honestly did not really like this bike. I really can't put my finger on why, just didn't do anything for me. I just don't care for it. I know one problem is the back brakes don't work, my roommate put it together and did a pretty good job, but for some reason, they just do not work at all. I can see this thing falling apart very quickly, and that doesn't make me happy, considering what I paid for it. Maybe it's just not fast enough, I don't know. I just reallllly didn't like this bike! LOL!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  This is a good bike at a great price point., January 11, 2012
By played_games (Decatur, IN 46733)
This is a good bike at a great price point. I bought it for my wife for light work around town and bike paths. I especially liked that the bike has gears versus the standard one speed cruiser bikes. The bike came in a nice package; all the parts were there and nothing was damaged or missing. Putting together a bike can be frustrating if you have not done it before, but I have assembled a few so I found the process to be straight forward. The directions were easy to follow and it took me an hour. Please note that metric tools are needed on this model and metric allen wrenches.
My wife loves it. The seat is comfortable. The handlebars fit her well; and the gears shift smoothly. What more could you ask for in a bike.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Very Poorly Manufactured, January 4, 2012
By Rebecca Libonati
Received this bike as a gift for our daughter for Christmas. My husband removed it from the box to find that the forks were too narrow for the front wheel to fit into and had to bend the forks. The chain was jammed between the derailer and the frame, and took some effort to remove it. The tires were not all the way mounted on the rim. The rims were not "true", and most of the spokes had to be tightened. There were dents and scratches on the frame. The fenders were not centered on the tires.

If my husband wasn't handy, this bike would have been IMPOSSIBLE to put together. Cheaply manufactured and poorly packaged. I would NOT recommend this bike due to the difficulty putting it together.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Bike is now on the up and running, May 4, 2012
By Gadget-head (Florida)
After I struggled to get the bike out of the box (lifting 44 lbs straight up is not easy), I saw that you can cut down the sides of the box to access everything. There was no packing, just some flimsy cardboard taped around some areas. The front wheel was tangled in the pedal crank, so I had to struggle with that. When I started the assembly, I had to go back 10 and punt after I realized I did not turn the front forks around to the front position (duh). I got everything put together after some frustrations, etc. I took the bike to a local bike shop and the guy rechecked my work and he had to "unbend" the derailer that was "bent" during shipping. The gears shifted okay, but there was a noisy racket with each pedal rotation. It now has smooth shifting and most of the noise is gone. The bike guy also installed the Michelin Avenir rear bike rack for me, that's another story. I installed the front basket, chapter 2 of another story, and for chapters 3, 4, and 5, I got a new seat after two failed attempts at getting the "right" one for me. I also added a water bottle cage that my small Thermos bottle fits into, so I will have cool water during the hot Florida summer months.

There were scratches on the front fender, along with a small dent, and scratches on the chain guard.

However!! This is a great little bike for the price, definitely not as sturdy as my Huffy, or a Schwinn, but the bike is satisfactory. I posted some photos so others can see how nice it is. I bought the bike to increase my exercise and with a 7-speed, I can have some fun and enjoy going out for daily exercise. Now, I have no problem cutting through the wind, rather than struggling with my 1-speed. Overall, I am happy with the purchase. Now I can quit fiddling around and get out there for nice bike rides.

I would recommend this bike to someone who wanted a very basic bike for a good value. Happy Biking!!

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Bike ok, arrived with cut tire, February 12, 2012
By Tomm
Bike seems ok, assembled without needing any instrictions. Good options for adjusting to rider's build. Only irating issue is that that the front tire had a cut in it (from assembly at factory). This prevented my daughter from riding it until I purchased a new tire tube from the store. She was disappointed not being able to ride it on her birthday.
