1.0 out of 5 stars.  Do not recommend this cycle, July 30, 2005
By Well wisher (Atlanta, GA)
The following were the problems:
1. Bent fender - poor packaging
2. Sratches in paint in several areas
3. Three nuts were missing
4. The front wheel hub had lateral play - cannot be fixed
Planning to return cycle if amazon accepts it.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good first bike., August 9, 2005
By Cecil Rasnake (Coeburn Va.)
When I decided to try bicycling I had no idea where to start.
After looking at hundreds of bikes I ordered the Pacific Shorewood. It arrived in good shape and time and I put it together in about an hour. I have rode several hundred miles now
and had a flat tire once!!! I have had no problems with this bike and would recommend it to anyone getting into bicycling for the first time and not wanting to invest too much into it at first.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Good reentry bike, August 31, 2006
By Skip (Hertford, NC)
I am 66 and purchased this bike as a way of resuming bike riding. It served the purpose well. I found it relatively easy to assemble, though it took some time to adjust the fenders so they did not rub. It was comfortable to ride. I live in flat county so I seldom used all seven gears, but they were nice to have when the wind was occasionally at my back. The gears generally shifted well but occasionally slipped from one to another. I used it for approximately nine months before it was stolen. I learned that I still enjoy riding a bike and I'm am replacing it with a somewhat more expensive model.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good bike for the money, February 27, 2009
By SP82 (Colorado)
First, here are some stats:
The bike weighs 37 pounds
The seatpost height is 25 inches
The maximum (safe) pedal to seat height is 31.5 inches (which means if your inseam is 33" or taller, don't get this bike)

First things first--you SHOULD/NEED to get this bike professionally tuned/built when it arrives if you have NO experience working on bikes [.............]. I have worked in a bike shop for many years, so I know my way around a bike, and if you want this bike to work like a bike should, you need someone who knows what they're doing to tune/build it. (If you're wondering why I didn't get a bike at my old shop, it's because I moved across the country--don't work in a shop anymore).

Anyway, I have plenty of high-dollar bikes hanging in my garage, but I needed an upright ride because my back is going out on me. If you can tune/build/true your own bike or have a buddy who will do it for you, this is a great deal. Otherwise, you'll probably be better off going to your local bike shop and buying a bottom of the line brand name cruiser that has been properly built.

This bike was double-boxed and in pretty decent shape when it arrived with FedEx. There was a large paint gouge on the rear down-tube, but only superficial. The brake/derailleur cables were frayed because they didn't put cable fairings on the end. The wheels were rideable but out-of-true, and if you don't get them trued you will incur permanent damage and end up paying a whole lot more for new wheels.

All the bolts were there, except one for the rear fender (I just used a zip tie to secure it). It does not have holes in the downtubes to attach a rear rack, so you'll have to gerry-rig it. If I keep this bike, I'll throw a new rear derailleur on, but the one it came with will get you where you need to go. In my opinion this a great bike for the money. If you have a bike mechanic friend, buy him a six pack and you're set. If you are on your own, I'd suggest getting a cheap but well-put together bike at your local bike shop (NOT Target or Walmart--they don't have mechanics putting their bikes together).

My one BIG complaint about this bike is the size. I'm 6'1", and I figured it would be semi-small since it's one-size-fits-all, but it's actually quite a petite bike. I'm stretching the seat-tube past the recommended limit until I can buy a longer one. You don't want to pay [.............] for knee surgery to save [.............] on a bike, so if you're 5'11" or taller, find something cheap that comes in a large size.

Like I said, having worked in a shop, the frame and the parts are more or less on par with a low-end brand name cruiser bike, it's the labor that makes the price difference.

By MarCha (Orange County, CA)

Speed of arrival was fantastic.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Pacific Shorewood, October 17, 2005
By Bea
The bike works excellent and is nice except for some few misstakes probably due to production. Its fenders were way off and therefore could not be used. The chain keeps jumping off so we had to fix that and the breaks are not adjusted right. Its almost like the parts dont fit.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Buy!!!, June 21, 2007
By Thomas R. Christie (Gainesville, Fl)
Pacific Shorewood Men's 26-Inch Cruiser Bike I ordered this bike after carefully searching the internet on many other sites. I found that for the money this was by far, the best deal. The bike arrived 5 days after it was ordered. Upon opening the box I found that it had been "Double Boxed", I guess due to a history of damages. I assembled the bike in no time. I had no problems , or no missing or damaged parts. (I did have to search through the box to find the nut for the front fender mounting bolt). The bike has a few scratches on it. It would help if it was bubble wrapped inside the shipping box. I have had problems getting the gears adjusted right, but that may be that it has been many years since I have done this. Over all I am very pleased and would highly recommend this bike to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  A snappy, but laid-back bargain beach cruiser, September 5, 2007
By W. L. Cummins (Santa Cruz, CA, USA)
After reading some of the other reviews before I purchased this bike, I was expecting the worst: missing, broken or mangled parts, mars, scratches, and dents. But, the price was sooooo low ($63 delivered to my door--it was on super sale!) that I figured I could either send it back if it were too bad, or rebuild or repair locally and still be ahead. Local rebuilt originals (heavy, one speed) are going for $150 or more.

So, I rolled the dice anyway--I mean, really, what could I lose? When it arrived, the box had a small gash and a four-inch hole it. However, when I removed the contents and matched up all the parts to the parts list, I was missing only one 1/4 inch bolt. And, just as others before me have reported, it took me less than an hour to completely assemble this chrome and silver and dark green beauty. Everything worked, and there was nothing that I could find fault with, especially considering the ridiculously low price I paid for it. The only thing (besides that one little bolt that had probably escaped through the hole) that didn't come with the bike was the air in the tires. Five minutes with my car tire inflator, and I was cruzin'!

I'm lucky enough to live two short blocks from Monterey Bay and the best surf in the USA, if not the world, in Santa Cruz, CA. I can say this because I used to live in Huntington Beach (officially designated as Surf City, USA) and there's no comparison. And I ride my beautiful, easy-to-shift, easy-to-brake beach cruiser every morning and every evening along the cliffs from Pelican Point to The Hook, and beyond!

This is a great bike! I would have bought it at the regular price if it hadn't been on sale knowing then what I know about it now. It gets approving looks and compliments everywhere I ride. Efficient center-pull brakes, seven speeds that are easy to shift up or down, a wide, spring-supported seat, and white-wall tires! Comfort crusin' with the wind in my face! Can you tell? I like my bike.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Beware of Shipping Damages, May 5, 2008
By R. Thomas (Oregon)
If you order ANY bike from Amazon, Beware of the Shipping Damage. AMAZON has a contract with FEDEX that states FEDEX is not responsible for any Damages caused by shipping, and you have to take it up with AMAZON. This Means they can Smash it, and tell you "tough luck Call Amazon"

Call Amazon and its the run around, ship it back, 3- 4 weeks, are you sure it was damaged by shipping, etc.

Go visit a bike shop.. do not buy one from Amazon, unless you like buying a new damaged Bike.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  J. W., July 21, 2005
By J. Williams (New Mexico)
The cardboard shipping container for this bike was broken through and open in several places, which could have been the result of poor design of the packaging and/or inept handling by the shipping company. A fender was bent and some of the paint was scratched. The front brake was difficult to adjust because there did not seem to be enough wire. A required tool, a 5mm allen wrench, was not provided. I have not attempted to adjust the gears because it seems too complicated, however, the bike seems to perform adequately as is.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  worth what you pay for, July 31, 2008
By A. Amaya (Miami, FL)
This bike is worth what you pay for, and more. Arrived within one week after my order was placed. To assemble this beauty it took me some hour and a half (I have some experience with bikes). Gears and breaks needed a little adjustment (quite normal)... one or two scratches. Comes with manual.

Overall, it's a great bike, much more comparing the price with others, especially if you are looking for an affordable bike for the errands around close by and enjoyed moderate excersise.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  nice bike, but hard to put together, October 25, 2007
By C. Peacock (monterey, CA)
This bike is nice now that I have it put together. It was damaged a bit in shipping. I had to take it to a bike shop to really get it adjusted properly. They charged me $50, but now it is all tuned up like a new bike should be.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  NOT WORTH IT, December 31, 2008
By nate (nate)
Although this bike is cheap it simply isn't worth the price. I spent $30 fixing it at a bike shop after it arrived due to bent tire, gears not working, other minor things. After 4 months the handlebars are rusting, the gears barely work ( i think it can change between 2 gears if you really crank it), it rides very slow and feels like its about to fall apart. My girlfriend bought a schwinn from amazon and was only $40 more and was an actual bike. Don't buy this just because it looks sweet like I did!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great bike, July 12, 2008
By misterfom (Seattle, WA USA)
My bike arrived promptly without any damage. Easy assembly. Unless you know how to adjust V-breaks yourself be prepared to spend an extra $20.00 or so. Gears skip every now and then, but I believe it is due to my inconsiderate shifting. Great basic bike. Love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Ladies, you can do this!!, November 11, 2009
By Barby D. Young (Anaheim, CA)
I was a reluctant to purchase a bike online with worries I wouldn't be able to safely put it together. I'm a big girl and intend to make good use of the bike to tow my large dog in his bike-trailer. Never put a bike together before, for the savings I have two words for you: BUY IT! I put this bike together on my own in a matter of minutes. I think it took me longer to push the box from one room to another and empty it out than it did to assemble the bike. The only things to put together is the front wheel, handle bars and peddles. If you have a screw driver, allen wrench and plyers, you've got it made, it's really a no-brainer. Oh yeah, the bike is really attractive too. Enjoy!

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Just Wait a few months, July 23, 2010
By Matt Richards (Los Angeles)
So I purchased this bike after reading the following reviews on here. When I got it it looked very nice and was fairly easy to put together. My first ride out it worked very well and we didn't run into any problems so I thought. I noticed first gear wouldn't shift very well and soon found out that it wouldn't shift into gear 1 at all. There was a church bike ride where a friend borrowed my bike and apparently he couldn't even make it halfway because the bike got stuck into 3rd gear. Riding a number of miles on 3rd gear can really be a challenge when you haven't rode a bike in a long time.

My next ride out was a nightmare because I learned first hand how impossible it was to ride a long distance stuck on third gear. On top of that on the way back the rear fender lost a screw and was rubbing against the back tire making alot of noise. I then put it in the shed and planned to take it into a bike shop to get it fixed. About a month later I took the bike out to bring it to a bike shop and both of the tires are completely flat. Apparently the tube inside the tires each got a hole. The Bike mechanic has no idea how that happened to both tires.

On top of that there is rust already on many parts of the bike, and its been subjected to nearly no bad conditions. This only after 2 months and 3 total trips. It's probably worth it to look else ware for a bike because your almost going to be forced to take it into a bike shop anyways. I'm the type of person that likes to fix things by myself, but this bike was in bad enough condition where I couldn't. I ended up spending $65 extra to get it fixed and who knows if even this will hold up.

You have been warned!

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Rim got bented, September 12, 2008
By Jin (Palatine, IL USA)
I got this bicycle, and I assembled it. After I assembeld it, I was trying to ride on the bicycle, but I felt that the wheel was not smooth. So, I looked it, and the rim got bented, therefore brake kept reach.

At first time, I thought that it was a brake problem, so I fixed a gap between a rim and a brake.
However, it was not a problem. Rim was bented. So, now what? I have to go to a bike shop to fix it.

There are also a dent and a scratch.

Shifter leaves a little to be desired. 3rd to 4th and, 4th to 5th shifts are pretty iffy. I'm gonna try to adjust it. If that doesn't work I will just upgrade to a better shifter. Thanks, Rich

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Above average bike, June 25, 2009
By lucky (Oceanside, CA)
This bike came in just 5 days. It was double boxed. It had a few small scratches on it and the wheels were out of round. The de-railer needed to be adjusted as well as the brakes. I took it to my bike mechanic and for $ 12.00 he had me up and running. All in all it's a nice riding, good looking beach cruiser and well worth the money for an inexpensive ride.

The gears don't shift as they should, but for the price....we'll just leave the gears wherever they were set at this point......
