4.0 out of 5 stars.  Powell makes great products!, February 13, 2010
By JEM (Atlanta, Ga.)
This package arrived by the said time and the board turned out to be a great product for a beginner. I bought this for my 7 year old and I am very happy, he loves it. I have skated with professionals growing up and I can honestly say this is one of the best boards under $100 out there right now. It is nice to have another choice between a walmart board and a pro board that a young kid cannot fully appreciate.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Very happy with the "Flying Dragon", October 19, 2009
By Call Me Lee (Bath, ME United States)
Bought for 12 yr old son, it replaced a very good skateboard he bought at the skate shop several years ago ... the deck was pretty much shredded. He loved that board. But this one is just as good, he has no complaints. Skater for about 5 years.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Awesome skateboard at an awesome price!, September 30, 2010
By Jennifer Neff
My son wanted this skateboard from a store in town. It was over double the cost of this one. He was concerned that the wheels and the trucks(sp?) were not as good as the local store's model. When it arrived he was so excited to find that it was the exact same everything. He says it's a great skateboard for beginners and is much easier to learn on than the real cheap ones. We were really happy with this purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Flying Dragon Skateboard, September 20, 2010
By Sandra Pollock
In purchasing a skateboard for my eight year old grandson's birthday, I reviewed customer comments on various models offered on Amazon. I found the reviews extremely helpful, and chose the "Flying Dragon" because of that. My grandson was delighted, and he loves it! It really is a perfect "first board" for him.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Item received is damaged, September 20, 2010
By xrwang01 (Louisville, KY United States)
The outside packaging box is in perfect shape when received. Inside the box, the plastic wrapping the board seems to have been smashed on the ground. The plactic is broken and dirty. The board shows clear sign of scratch at one end, and a wood chip is coming off. It is reasonable to believe the board was already damaged before it is packaged. I have taken pictures to prove this.

I am buying this skateboard as a gift to my nephew overseas. No time left to get a replacement. I guess I won't be able to see his smile.

Very upset.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great beginner board, great price, June 3, 2011
By Curtis G (Surf City USA)
The neighborhood kids are always zooming around the culdesac on their boards, and the other day I took my wife's Arbor longboard out and just cruised. My 4-year-old son wanted to ride on it with me, so I decided to start looking for a board for him. Yeah, 4 might be a little young, but he does really well on his Mini-Kick scooter and I'll wrap him in bubble wrap, so no worries. Based on the price and ratings, and on my son's preference for this color scheme over the white one (which I preferred, not that it matters), I purchased this Powell board. While it was in transit, we happened to be at Target so I looked at their available boards. There was a line of Tony Hawk beginner boards for about $30, and just when I started to question my decision, I tried spinning the wheels on the TH boards. They barely moved. (By design, I wonder?) When our board arrived (a day early!), I knew I'd made the right choice.

My son was excited about the board and couldn't wait to try it. Good thing his Mongoose BMX Bike Gel Knee and Elbow Pads arrived at the same time. He is easily frustrated so his turn on the board didn't last long, so I took it out for a test ride. This board is prettier, sturdier and better-constructed than any board I ever owned (my first board was an inch thick and had clay wheels, for what that's worth), and much less expensive. The deck is concave and completely covered with grip tape, the trucks are firm and the wheels spin freely. (It also comes with a bonus instructional DVD.) I'm 200 pounds and it handles me just fine, so I have no doubt that this will last my son for many years. Barring, of course, the kind of catastrophic accident that often befalls kids' toys. Today one of the neighborhood skater prodigies pronounced it "pretty good," so I am completely pleased with my purchase. If you're looking for a beginner board for any age range, you can't go wrong with this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good for the price, June 26, 2011
By the Stickbug (Phoenix area.)
I bought this for my son's Christmas present. He's six, and was excited to receive it. He's still a bit scared of how fast it rolls, but he's getting more and more comfortable whenever I bring it out for him to ride.

Product came in good condition, and seemed to be as advertised. My only little complaint is that I had read that the bearings were great, for such a cheap board. I tend to disagree with that assessment... Spinning the wheels does not cause them to free spin for minutes at a time, as another reviewer mentioned (at least I think I read that). But other than that, I'm pleased with the purchase.

My son is a beginner so I can't attest to it's durability, because he's easy on it, but it's a great skateboard!!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great 1st board, January 17, 2012
By kiki (new hampshire)
My 10 year old son has been wishing for a skateboard every Christmas for the last three years. This year,
"Santa" finally fulfilled his wish. My son has already learned a few tricks, and loves the action of the board. It has good bounce, rolls smooth and straight, and flips nicely. He always puts it back under his bed for protection against harm. Well worth the money.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  not as cool as it looks, February 9, 2012
By Michael Gorey (Venice, CA United States)
Great deck and wheels but trucks are weak. Kids can't turn the board no matter how loose I make the trucks.
I am going to try and replace the bushings and see if that helps.
Otherwise look for a board with better trucks.
Even beginners need good equipment.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great board for a beginner, January 21, 2012
By Charlie (MI, USA)
Powell Golden Dragon Skateboard

I purchased this as a beginner. The price was right, and the actual quality of the board, bearings, wheels, and trucks felt solid to me. The dragon design was very appealing as well. The bushings were a medium compound. It felt very stable in a straight line, but was pliable enough for good feel while turning.

The board comes with a DVD that has some instructional videos and explained how the board was assembled. I thought the video was mediocre, and there are better instructions for beginners available on YouTube. One of the record holders for ollies literally phoned in a voice-over for a section of the video.

After several falls, the board is fairly scraped but everything is holding together. The wood is not delaminating and all of the components are functional.

Overall: 5/5 stars

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Good, for the price., May 9, 2012
By Ben (Dallas, TX United States)
I got this because it was a name brand, and cheaper than a lot of the other full kits.

I didn't want something that felt cheap, but I think I got what I paid for. This a little cheap, but not really cheap. It's definitely not junk. It just doesn't feel like a custom build with high quality parts.

It's made in China and came fully assembled.

If I had it to do over, I'd spend the extra $40 and get something that I got to put together myself.
