5.0 out of 5 stars.  This is a must have for hikers, August 23, 2007
By Sno Hockey Coach (Snoqualmie Ridge, WA)
One of the problems with the out-of-the-box Camelbak is when it gets dropped (usually by one of my kids) and gets dirtied. Sure, you can clean it off, but it is a pain, and if I'm not careful my two year old is eating dirt. This cover is great at keeping the valve clean - easy to put on, easy to use, stays on. Come to think of it, why doesn't Camelbak include it as part of their product?

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Doesn't fit over the big bite valve, July 3, 2009
By 9 Lives (NJ)
I got this to go along with the CamelBak Better Bottle with Bite Valve. However, it doesn't fit over the big bite valve that comes on the bottle.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  great addition for any camelbak, September 5, 2008
By R. Soon (CA)
I don't know about you, but I like to keep my mouthpiece clean. Especially if I'm trekking around and getting dirty. A little annoying to put on at first, be sure to use alcohol and really twist it on there. A good buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  works great, November 18, 2009
By 20NfPr5R
works with my 2009 Camelbak Mule NV valve. installation instructions recommend using an alcohol swab to simply slide the valve/cover onto the hydrolock. i didn't use alcohol so it took some negotiating to get a good fit.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great but hard to but on, April 12, 2012
By Bryson Hicks
PROS:
Good strong plastic
Easy to open with mouth
Durable

CONS:
Very hard to put on normally.

HOW TO PUT ON EASILY:
The problem is that once you take off the rubbery bit part it is very hard to get a good grip on to be able to pull back on. If you do not have rubbing alcohol and or warm water then just make sure that you squeeze the sides of the valve cover to push it on and lube it with water.
Otherwise soak in warm water to help plastic to expand (the rubbery bit part) and/or put some rubbing alcohol on the valve part and push it on quickly as the alcohol evaporates fast.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Does what it's supposed to, September 27, 2011
By Brian Bailey (WI United States)
Like other reviewers stated, this is something that should come STANDARD on all CamelBak systems. It took me quite awhile to get it on because you have to remove the bite valve, slide this on, and then slide the bite valve back on. Sounds easy in theory. But the tolerance is so tight (so the bite valve doesn't come off), that it didn't fully slide back on all the way very easily. After spending more time than one should, I was finally able to slide it on all the way. Maybe it's just me, who knows. But once it's on, it's definitely worth having. Keeps your bite valve nice and clean.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Didn't fit water bottle, May 18, 2011
By Human
I ordered this thinking it would fit the normal camelbak bite valve cover and it didn't. It clearly says Big Bite on it but i wasn't sure of that at the time since it was my first camelbak purchase. Three stars isn't really fair because i don't know how the product works due to my mistake and it not fitting my bottle.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Beware! This works for the hydration system NOT the water bottle, January 26, 2012
By J. Remsen (Dover, MA)
This product is designed for the Big Bite Valve which comes with the Camelbak hydrations systems, NOT the regular bite valve that comes on a CamelBak BPA-Free Better Bottle with Bite Valve or a Camelbak Better Insulated Bottle. Despite the description which states that it fits "a standard or Big Bite valve", it does not fit the bite valve on a the typical Camelbak bottle. I'm sure it is an excellent product for the hydration systems, but do not buy it as a solution to cover the bite valve on a Camelbak water bottle.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Best addition to my Camelbak!, March 2, 2011
By RW
Pros: I cannot tell you how many times I have set my pack down and the bike bite valve ended up in the dust. Then you either eat sand or have to waste water to wash off the bite valve. This bite valve cover has saved me on many occasions
Cons: When mountain biking, remember to uncap it at the start of your ride so that you don't have to struggle with it when barreling downhill. It is a minor inconvenience to have the open cover flapping around - but well worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Required addition to any Camelbak, December 1, 2011
By Roger
This bite valve cover is a must for any Camelbak. Think about it -- you put your mouth on and suck water from a valve that's hanging from your backpack while you're hiking or running or whatever. That valve's going to be in contact with everything, and if you ever put the Camelbak on the ground, that valve might just rub all up on the ground. I'm sure you wouldn't drink water from the ground, so don't drink from your valve that's been exposed to everything. This cover keeps your valve clean, and is easy to operate. I haven't had any issues popping it open and closing it while on runs or bike rides. I highly recommend this bite valve cover.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  A Must Have, May 20, 2012
By Rowing is Life (San Francisco, CA)
Like most people I believe the packs should always be sold with a cover, but since the add on is so cheap I really don't care. I bought the Mule N.V and use it as a mini-travel bag as well as a biking bag and it would weird me out every time I had to take the bag off to put it down before I had the cover. It's not the easiest thing to put on, but once it's there it stays and and when capped it stays capped. Can't ask for more.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  What to say..., April 20, 2012

What can I say. It's a bite valve cover and works as designed. Keeps dirt and grit off of your valve.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  No Brainer!, January 9, 2012
By William Faircloth (USA)
While I agree with the multiple reviews that suggest this item should be included with CamelBaks as a standard feature, I can't let that detract from the item's performance.

I was lucky and this fit easily on the first try. Comes off without much fuss for thorough cleaning, but stayed on most of the season.

As far as I'm concerned, this thing paid for itself after about 3 hikes: no dirt/dust on the bite valve and no worrying about where I drop my pack. It seems like it will last as long as my CamelBak, so I'm happy with the purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Works Well, July 23, 2011
By M. Palmera (California)
It's a big bite valve cover that works as simply as it looks. Sturdy. Easy to attach and clean. Purchased a few. It's the quality I've come to expect from all Camelbak products. The item serves its purpose, period. This is a staple item for the outdoor enthusiast... no one wants a dirty bite valve!

These are so easy to put on and work very well...When hiking in Yosemite, my bite valve would sometimes get a little dusty or if you sit your backpack down it may fall onto the dirt...
This protector works perfect...

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Keeps my camelback clean, difficult to put on, July 6, 2011
By Winnie Lai (New York, NY)
This is an awesome cap but really hard to put on! I followed the advice of putting rubbing alcohol on it as well as the suggestion to put it in hot water first. The hot water did not work but the rubbing alcohol seemed to have made it easier to get on (I had to put a good amount of rubbing alcohol on in order for the cap to slide on to the valve). Despite the difficulty of getting it onto my bite valve, it keeps it clean when hiking and when I am storing my camelback at home. I would highly recommend it to anyone considering the fact that you really only have to go through the pains of putting it on once.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Just get it, February 11, 2011
By miguel celis (FOUNTAIN VALLEY, CA, US)
As many people have mentioned, this should be included in all the set ups. You will eventually put your Camelbak down and you will get dirt on the mouthpiece. Just get one, its well worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  How is this not standard equipment for Camelbak bags???, September 13, 2010
By Justin Wu (Miami)
It keeps your big bite valve clean. When I bought my HAWG NV 2010 bag my only complaint is that I was constantly worried about how I set the bag down and positioning it just so that the valve wouldn't touch the ground. Now I can just plop it on the ground and not have to worry about it. Also prevents the valve from opening and spilling water out. Why isn't this thing standard equipment?

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice and clean, June 4, 2010
By Joe (NH)
This cover fits tightly and closes securely, Your camelbak hose
will come in contact with the ground at some point, This cover protects
the bite valve so you don't have to worry about contamination or a dirty
gritty mouthpiece. Worth the extra bucks.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Does What Was Stated - Protect The Bite Valve!, May 4, 2010
By Master Q
It is a little costly when compared to other brand that comes with a cover. It was a pain to put into the bite valve because there little bit of room for it. By wetting the tube with water helps somewhat.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  great for mini mule too, March 3, 2010
By A. M. Volk
My daughter took the Camelbak mini-mule with her to Disney, and I cringed every time her mouthpiece hit the floor of a ride. This is a perfect cover! It opens and closes easily for a child to use it.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  ., September 20, 2009
By S. Alfonso (NY NY)
Good product. Does what it is meant to do - keep mouth bite clean on camelbak. It was a little hard to put on. It also leaked a little but that's probably because I never got it on properly. Price - ok. Same price at local store and could have saved on shipping. But overall it was good buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice Cover Works Well, February 17, 2012
By ADARR (O-H----I-O)
I bring my backpack everywhere, and that means my Camelbak bladder comes with it! I was never too worried about sanitation or dirt getting on the bite valve, but my problem was a little different. The tube for my bladder runs up, over, and along my shoulder strap, and I have a tendency to set down my bag on its back (shoulder side down). On occasion, this would pinch open the bite valve and let water trickle out. Thankfully, there was never any damage from the frequent leaks, but it made a mess, and came close to ruining stuff. The solution was this cover.

I picked this particular cover because it was a brand I recognized and was cheap (always a top priority, in my mind). The valve has performed exactly as I expected. It's made of a hard rubber/plastic (think Batman's chest plate). Installation was pretty simple. It simply requires removing the bite valve (you don't have to take the fitting out of the tube--which is good, because I was worried removing the fitting would mess up the seal.) The bit valve sits in the cover, and then the cover+bit valve is slipped back on the fitting. The whole process took me all of 5 minutes. The cap fits snugly, and it really snaps securely in place. I don't foresee the cap opening up accidentally.

Another worry I had was that it would make the bit valve really bulky, and since the valve sits over my shoulder, I was worried it would be annoying. It's not annoying at all; I don't even notice it.

To the extent this cap has a downside, it's that the bite valve doesn't protrude very much from the bottom portion of the cap housing. A good 1/2 inch is exposed, and I have never had any trouble drinking from the valve. But I could envision some people not liking that some of the bite valve is covered.

Lastly, just a tip I've learned from using the valve. The easiest way to open the valve one handed is to grab the valve in your hand so that the valve and cap are coming out the thumb side of your closed hand. With your thumb free push up on the cap (by "up," I mean push perpindicular to the running length of the cap). The cap will snap off with a rewarding pop. Drink to your heart's desire.

Please, feel free to post a comment if this isn't at all clear, or if you have further questions. I'm happy I bought the cap (no accidental leaks since) and I hope you'll find it helpful too! As others have noted, it does not fit over the "Big Bite Valve"

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Complete waste of money !!, January 25, 2012
By Carla (Costa Rica)
I bought these valves for my two camel backpacks and wasted my money. First, I thought that since they were from the same brand, it will fit perfectly... it doesn't! the Cap keeps opening and then the purpose of protecting the valve is not achieved.
Second, for one of my camels waterbags, I was not able to plug in the valve base, since the tube was wider, so I just placed the cover on top and ... guess what happened? it fell down and I lost it on the trail.
Don't buy this on the web, unless you are able to try it first at the shop.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  This should come as standard, August 2, 2011

This valve cover should come as standard like the military version so I don't have to spend $6.73 on a piece of plastic. Shame on Camelbak.
