I don't know what I expected but it sure wasn't this!, June 21, 2008
By Dog Walker (San Antonio, Texas)
|
|
I don't know what I expected from a $200 bike but it sure wasn't this. First the good points, the paint job is great. The frame is sturdy and appears solidly constructed. Now the bad, the engineering behind the adjustable frame is poor at best. In order to ride the bike at all you need to stretch it out to one of the last notches which makes the bike unstable. Even moderate pedaling causes the bike to buck like a wild horse and it feels like it could fall apart at any time. The crank system is too short and feels like a circus bike, it also does not stay assembled. There is nothing more frustrating than trying to ride a bike that keeps loosing its pedals. I have owned this bike for less than a week and I need to replace one of the tires already. Most everything about this bike has been frustrating and disappointing. As far as the "fun" that this product promised me, the only thing fun will be getting rid of it. I would not recommend this product to anybody.

Better for a kid or an elderly person, September 4, 2008
By Happy Hiker (San Jose, CA)
|
|
I bought this trike so I could get a little fun and exercise while nursing a broken foot (I'm 38). It does NOT go fast at all -- you reach the max speed very quickly, and at that point the pedals just flop around. The neighborhood kids LOVE it and ask to borrow it all the time. It IS a fun little ride, with the steering allowing you drift through turns. (It can tip over, though.) I wouldn't use it for serious exercise, though.

poorly made cheap, July 26, 2008
By edwardsdna (Wilmington, NC United States)

this is one of the most poorly made products on the market. Don't waste your money. Within 30 days I had to replace the rear tires. After that the brakes broke and then withing 6 months and less than 20 times used one of the pedals fell off and now will not stay on. This was well cared for and not handled roughly. It is very cheaply made and the seat is extremely uncomfortable (very hard).

Perfect for our autistic 12 year-old, August 8, 2011
By Paul Collins (Portland, Oregon)
|
|
There seem to be a lot of both 1 and 5 star reviews here, and I think I can explain that. This bike is, in effect, a recumbent trike that can accomodate everyone from a 7 year old (and maybe smaller, for all I know) to an adult. But it IS a trike without a chain or gears -- the pedals go direct into those little wheels. What it is perfect at -- and useless for -- are both directly related to that fact.
What it CAN'T do is pick up much speed at all... or for that matter, get up a steep hill very easily. So if you're looking for a bike that'll handle a commute or trips to the store, you'd be nuts to buy this thing. It'll be useless, you'll hate it, and you'll and be mad about being out a bunch of money. So... there's your one-star reviews accounted for.
What it CAN do is give excellent exercise and cycling experience for people who *can't* normally ride a bike. While you wouldn't want to ride real far in it, taking it for a mile-long spin through the local park is no problem at all. So: let's say you have a bad back or, as in my case, an autistic kid who's a flight risk on a bike. Well, this thing will get you in the fresh air and give a you a very pleasant but meaningful workout.
For an autistic kid, it's a godsend. My son needs constant supervision, so we can't just have him tooling around on a regular bike. The Triton is *just* fast enough to be fun for him, and yet just *slow* enough that I can keep up with him at a good brisk walk. There's little danger from him falling off a bike so low to the ground, and I can keep up on foot to make sure he doesn't go veering off into a road or something. And the bike itself is fun and unusual enough that when his schoolmates see him on it at the park, they're fascinated and want to try it out themselves. Which is high praise indeed!

Great workout!, May 20, 2009
By Krysty

Even though it doesnt go very fast I was sweating after 2 miles of riding.
This product does not do well on hills, so stick to flat surfaces.
I love mine and I recommend it to anyone BUT only if you are shorter, I am 5 ft 1 & it is on the very last notch so if you are very tall then you might want to buy the Trition Pro.

Do the research!, February 15, 2011
By Gator Lady (Central Florida, USA)
|

Before buying a Triton, make sure you research the correct MODEL. You should view and read the reviews on the Triton Pro Ultimate model (a bit more expensive than the Ultimate) here on Amazon, but it may answer more of your questions. I have a review on that page that may be helpful.....and one year later, I still think there are pros and cons. It is good for neighborhood cruising, and for exercising the dog on relatively flat surfaces. It is NOT for hills, super-fitness riding, or high speed work-outs. A definite "con" is the poor quality of the rear tires, and even though I have repalced them with high quality tires from the local bike shop, there is an excessive wear pattern that (I believe)is due to poor bike design. I list more details in my other review under "Triton Pro Ultimate."

I bought one for fun and my 67 yr old mom rides it when she is visiting. It is easy to put together and rides fairly smooth. Great buy for the price and kind of exercise that you get from it!

My Niece LOVES this Triton!, July 16, 2007
By Steve (Torrance, CA, USA)
|
|
This triton is FANTASTIC! I bought one for my 9-year-old niece on her birthday and she LOVES IT! She is the HIT of the neighborhood. All of the kids come over to the house to take rides on the triton. They love the unique steering and adjustable length that makes it fun and functional. Now, instead of sitting in front of the TV playing video games, she is outside with her friends, having fun and exercising on her new triton three-wheeler! I am truly pleased with my purchase.

No fun, June 9, 2009
By Miranda Bourne
|
|
I had read quite a few good reviews about these bikes and was excited to get one. But I found it very disappointing. I read how easy and fun and comfortable it was on 3 or 4 differesnt sites. Not so, it really want all the comfortable and I didn't find it fun for the most part. The steering was kind fun. But over all I wouldn't recomend this type of bike. It's also extreemly slow so don't expect to be able to ride with others who are using a normal bicycle.

Feel like a kid again!, December 29, 2008
By Myra L. Totten

I love my Triton.
Im no kid but, I feel like one when I am riding my Triton.
The bike is very nice. Easy to handle and safe as long as you know
where the brake is!
I would definitely reccomend the bike to older adults, however not
necessarily for young children.
The Triton is actually nicer than I expected and I look forward to
riding it frequently, especially as the weather improves in the spring.

Triton 3-Wheeled Adult Tricycle, August 14, 2009
By Patricia L. Marchbanks (Gulfport, MS)

|
I love it! I have a spinal disability and the Triton helps me get exercise I can't normally get (walking, running, gym workouts, etc). I'm also over 50 and when I got on the Triton it made me feel like a kid again. I actually found myself laughing at myself while I was riding. The neighbors had a blast checking it out, too!

Excellent Buy!!, May 20, 2011
By Ray Valles (Kansas)
|
|
We purchased this bike for our eight year old daughter who has special needs and is physically limited and would not have been able to ride a bike for many years if at all. The design accomodates her limitations and will grow with her, she loves it and has adapted to it very quickly. I have told everyone I know especially those in need of this type of bike it's an excellent investment and well worth the price. A special thanks to Stephen in the parts department at ASA who took care of some initial problems right away.

Trike Fun for All Ages, January 5, 2011
By audio book lover (Mayfield Village, Ohio USA)
|
|
How many 61 year-old adults ride a recumbent trike? Recently we moved to a rural area in New Mexico and often take a two mile walk around our property for exercise. I thought it would be fun to have another exercise option and surfed Amazon.com for some ideas. I found the Triton Ultimate Three Wheeled Cruiser for a reasonable price compared to the high end recumbent tricycles for adults.
So, I ordered the tricycle which came shortly before the holidays. My husband assembled it without much trouble. It indicates that it's for people up to 5'8" and is great for young children up to adults. Keep in mind, that this three-wheeler being at the low end of the trikes, does not have gear shifting but does have a hand brake. When I sat down on the trike, it felt quite comfortable and I took it around the block. However, we live in the country and where the road has more gravel, I wasn't able to ride the trike because the wheels are small and dig into the gravel. That hasn't stopped me because there are other roads with less gravel that I maneuvered fairly well. It's lot of fun, people. I can imagine how much more fun it would be on a smooth road. I also have a regular bike which, of course, covers more ground in less time. However, I bought this Triton Cruiser for exercise and it sure does the work. So, instead of getting on an exercycle and going nowhere, I highly recommend getting this trike and seeing nature, accompanying your kids on a ride, or getting some exercise.

why?, November 28, 2009
By z1ny (new york, ny)

three hundred dollars for what amounts to a glorified child's tricycle? It's a single speed, so don't expect to go very fast. (think of a unicycle, same arrangement.)
If you're going to spend this much, look into a recumbent, same seating position.
I like how "steve" has squeezed in four of his biased reviews, looks like he works for the company with his plugs that read like a 'paid actor.'

Is this really a Schwinn?, February 21, 2012
By oldgal
|
|
My first bike--many years ago was a Schwinn. Bought this trike based on that experience. But the trike is not as well manufactured; back fender brackets too short to allow clearance over and above the tire; steers to the left, front brakes could not be adjusted even by a bike assembler. Without rear fenders it is rideable. It will take a while to adjust to the quirks and foibles of a trike as opposed to a bike. I keep practicing and with a whole lot more practice expect to truly enjoy the vehicle. Assembly booklet needs drastic improvements and revisions.
