3.0 out of 5 stars.  Not for mountain bikes, April 28, 2011
By AWS910
These didn't even come close to fitting my wheels, front or back. Measure your existing skewers before buying these, I think they're designed for road/commuter/fixie bikes.

It seems like they would deter the common "grab your wheel as they walk by" thief.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Secure your wheels!, October 18, 2010
By M. Woollen (New York, NY)
I commute and keep a bike in New York City. These replace the quick-release skewers that come with most bikes, and make it nearly impossible to steal the wheels off your bicycle without the special key. This means that I don't have to travel with a separate locking system for the frame and the wheels, and can just use a U-lock to secure the frame - makes for a lot less to carry, and locking up outside a lot quicker. Yet with the key, which lives on my keychain, it's very quick to release the skewers for roadside tire repair. I highly recommend for anyone in a less-than-secure area.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  I recommend these, January 28, 2011
By Justin Klein
I purchased a set of these, and definitely recommend them. I ride my bike in NYC and this set has helped it from having anything stolen so far.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  securing your bike, March 24, 2011
By Jo
it's been a month or so since I had the product and so far so good. The skewers and key seem quality made. It takes a little practice to line up the key notches to the lock.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Pinhead defeats Gator wrench, May 1, 2012
By Wolfeman
The 2012 Pinhead wheel locks now come with security washers which prevent their opening by the Gator wrench. These POG security washers are also a free upgrade on the Pinhead website for all past wheel lock purchasers. This security washer is not required for Pinhead's solid axle wheel locks, seatpost locks, saddle locks or headset locks.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Just what I needed for city riding, November 30, 2011
By NB
Instead of buying a bunch of locks and cables, I decide to try these out. So far I've taken my bike out in San Fran a few times and left it locked up on Market, Valencia, Hayes Valley and down at the Embarcadero without any parts getting stolen.

Pros:
-seems secure so far
-really easy to install

Cons:
-the seat bit didn't work on my seats, so I've just overtightened the bolts hoping that someone won't be strong enough to untighten them :)
-you MUST carry the key with you when riding (I say this because of the next con)
-I've noticed that the wheel locks have a tendency to come a bit loose, so check them before riding (you'll notice when you start riding and your tire isn't moving...check the pinhead lock first to see if it's loose)

Overall, seems like a pretty secure product and it hasn't let me down yet.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Does the job!!, November 28, 2011
By Mr. Bigshot (Washington, D.C.)
I bought these locks straight from my dealer the day I purchased my bike and had them installed before even leaving the shop. If you are a commuter, especially on in an urban area, looking to keep your wheels intact, these locks are hard to beat. Literally, even the most skilled mechanic, let alone thief, would have a field day trying to get these off without the special key. Sure, they add a little extra time to removing your tire but so what. I don't think there's anything better on the market that can beat this. As a commuter in Washington DC, I would highly recommend these to anyone looking for a simple system.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Worked like a charm!, September 26, 2011
By Maeraj (CA, USA)
I already carry the New York Fahgettaboutit u-lock which is quite hefty but also too small to use on anything more than the frame of my bike. These skewers work like a charm--I don't have to carry around cables to secure my wheels or seat anymore. The went on very easily and fit perfectly on my Electra Townie. I no longer worry about my wheels or seat being stolen! If anything changes I will update this review!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Expensive but hopefully worth it., February 22, 2012
By online junkie
I can't rate the effectiveness of these b/c as far as I know, no one has attempted to steal my bike. But I feel safer know that these have replaced the quick release mechanisms.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Easy to install and secure, January 1, 2012
By DJnet65
These were pretty easy to install. They are easy enough to loosen and tighten back up when you need to remove a tire and they are much more secure than the quick release skewers.

They definitely help give you some peace of mind that your wheels will be much more difficult to remove for a potential thief. I still use a cable lock through my wheels as added security.

I really like these skewers but the one thing that concerns me is that it only came with one key which kinda worries me.

The other thing is the key is generic and anyone who has bought these skewers has a key that will work on your skewers.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Seat Bolt Snapped, May 4, 2012
By Josh Hibschman
Pros: Non-standard head makes theft more difficult

Cons: The threads are cheap quality, the seat bolt snapped when I was tightening it. These are not "locking." They are simply skewers with a non-standard head.
