Perfect Size for Carrying Groceries on Your Bike, October 12, 2008
By An Engineer and Business Person (San Francisco, CA USA)
|
|
This product is a net made out of 1/4" bungee cord, with four hooks. The hooks are rubber coated, so they don't scratch, and they have flared tip covers so they won't snag fabrics.
The whole assembly weighs just under 4 ounces, and it collapses to about the size of a medium size vitamin bottle, so it's easy to carry everywhere in a backpack without taking up too much room.
This net is absolutely ideal for carrying groceries using your mountain bike rack. After trying it with a grocery sack that was half full and seeing that it holds the sack absolutely rock steady, I was ready to put it to the ultimate test. I used it to return from the grocery store about 2 miles away carrying one large doubled (one inside the other) paper grocery sack that was filled right to the top with very heavy items. It held 3 half gallons of milk, two 4 lb steak packages, and two large frozen vegetable packages - 25 lbs worth of food. I put the grocery bag on the mountain rack that is mounted above the rear tire. The net went over it easily without crushing anything, but held it securely upright over every bump. The groceries never budged. After using it for a year, however, sometimes, a grocery bag will tip. The net will hold it in place, so nothing will fall out, but be prepared to stop and remount the thing. It seems to happen about one out of twenty uses.
Should you get this or panniers? (Panniers are bags or soft sided baskets that hook over the sides of your mountain bike rack) With this, everything sits in the center of the bike, perfectly balanced, and it doesn't interfere with pedaling like panniers sometimes do. And face it, the price is right - it's a real bargain, even with the shipping charges, and I received it in 3 days from Bike World USA. Coupled with a large backpack that I use to hold another grocery bag worth of lighter items, I've stopped using my car for grocery shopping in the city of San Francisco.
However, if I think about it in advance, I tend to use panniers over this net. I don't have the one in twenty tipping problems with panniers and they are a bit easier and faster to get on and off. The benefit to this cargo net is twofold, however: it's a low price starting point to seeing if you want to start shopping with your bike. But more importantly, you can keep it handy in the back of your backpack all the time. With panniers, you have to plan ahead and carry them around. It has saved my behind on more than one occasion, either because I was out without panniers, I ran out of room in the panniers, or I just needed to take a jacket off and strap it to the bike. So even if you end up using panniers like I did, this won't be a wasted purchase. I still use my cargo net all the time. I carry it with me everywhere and if I lost it, I'd buy another one.
UPDATE 3/28/11: After 2.5 years, I lost one of the hooks. If you pull hard enough the wrong way, they'll come off and somehow I must have done that and I couldn't find it. And true to my word, I ordered another one the next day. Can't live without it.

Bike net, May 27, 2009

A good replacement for bungee cords as long as your load is large enough. I find that I still need a smaller bungee cord for littler items.

Indespensible for carrying stuff on bike, December 13, 2007
By RupeBier (Brooklyn, NY USA)
|
|
Great product .., I use my bike alot more these days not only as a mode of transportation but also as a utility vehicle as well.If you are like me always lugging stuff around on the bike; running to the store to pick up groceries or whatever; use this little, well-made 'netty thing'to secure the stuff inside the front or rear basket/rack.
It's elastic bungee netting & hooks will you give you peace of mind and a feeling of security that nothing is going to fall out on your journey..

Secures your stuff to your rack, October 3, 2008
By Scott Redd (Omaha, NE United States)
|
|
Very simply, this bungie net does exactly what you'd think. It holds your stuff to the back rack on your bicycle without having to fuss with using multiple bungie cords. Since it's designed for a back rack on a bike, its shape is just what you need to secure your stuff at an excellent price. It works especially well for tying down oddly shaped loads.
The only thing I would change might be to add extra hooks to add more tie-down versatility and security.

good quality after lots of use, February 6, 2009
By Web designer, student (Chicago, IL)
|
|
I've owned this product for over two years. I'm writing this review because I just bought a second one.
Why I like it:
It's still completely intact. Nothing's ripped or torn yet. I use it to cover my groceries in a basket which sits on top of my rear rack.
It has 4 hooks that are permanently wrapped around the cords. The segments they wrap around are also double corded so there's more strength to prevent a cord break.
Why I don't like it:
There's nothing to put here.

Great addition to backrack, October 13, 2009
By M. Kelly (Brooklyn, NY)
|
|
This is a great item to have if you've got a backrack on your bike. I had been using bungee cords to try and rig groceries and other things to my backrack, but it was very difficult to keep everything stable. Not with this cargo net. Now I can load up on groceries and not have to worry about getting them home on my bike. The only slight negative is that the cargo net is big, so you really do need larger items to use it. This is well worth the money.

Cargo net does the job!, August 7, 2009
By Marshall (Sacramento, CA)
|
|
Initially I was going to install a large twin rear carrier Wald 535 Rear Twin Bicycle Carrier Basket (18 x 7.5 x 12) to accommodate my large briefcase and lunch bag during my commute. But that would have meant a permanent heavy fixture attached to the bike that would make simple pleasure rides less pleasurable. So instead I simply mounted a rear rack and got this cargo net to use when I commute. The net stretches to fit my needs, keeps my stuff secure and immobile, and I like the coated metal hooks better than the idea of nylon hooks found on other cargo nets.
The rack and cargo net combination has proved to be the better option for maximum versatility.

Creme de la creme, August 29, 2010
By Craig S. Prior
|
|
I have baskets on both my commuter bikes. The idea behind the baskets is to be able to drop things in there without a lot of hassle in bungie cording things down.
That WAS the theory... but when I went whipping down a steep hill and things begin flying out of the basket... well, the best laid plans. So I use one of these cargo nets to secure the top of the basket, forming a sort of a "lid." Now I can go flying down hills and nothing can fly out.
As to inconvenience, no I don't find it inconvenient. Leave the net attached at 3 points and unattach one hook for slipping things in and out of the basket. That seems to work out well, and I'm an impatient person so considering I find it convenient... you'll find it convenient.

Simple, Efficient, Well Worth the Cost, March 28, 2010
By Joseph Freas (Montgomeryville, PA, USA)

I did several reviews and research before I bought any bungie cargo net. I needed one for the excessive amount of first aid gear I carry on my bike. Being an officer in the Emergency Aid Corps, Bicycle Detachment, it proved to be worth every penny. I knew the elastic kinds don't last long, but this one, wow! Cheap in cost and there wasn't one scrimp on the material. The net is not only springy, but always retracts to its original condition folded. It can also be stored easily into a bike bag compartment.
Great product. I have recommended this product to my subordinates and fellow superiors alike. Absolutely great.

This is much easier to use than a bungee cord(s). Shipped very quickly and I'm very happy with it. I bike to work sometimes and have a big duffle bag I need to strap on the back. Bungees were so hard to stretch and pull over. This is much better and good price!

It's A MIRACLE!, March 12, 2011
By Paul (Williamsburg,VA USA)

Big, beautiful bunch of bungie bundling bravado! You may think it's just a stretchy net with hooks but oh my friend, it is much, much more. It can magically transform a pile of uncontrollable, loose objects into a solid mass of disciplined cargo ready for transport. One bungie is just a bungie, but several, woven together in complete harmony with four hooks on the corners is the "Sunlite Bicycle Bungie Cargo Net, Black", and it's beautiful! Get one... NOW!

Adequate For Occasional Use, April 19, 2011
By L. Dyer
|
|
The Sunlite Bungie Cargo Net works about as expected for securing items to rear rack. The Sunlite Cargo Net dimensions are 13" L x 11" W and the individual squares are 2.5" L x 2.25 W. I think the Premium Bike Bungle Cargo Net - X-Thick Cord - 6 Hooks would offer better load securing and stabilizing with it's 6-hooks vs the Sunlite 4-hook design. Since I also have a Topeak Explorer rear rack with a compatible Topeak MTX Trunk Bag (easily sildes on off the rack and attaches securely) on my road commuter bike, I find that an easier setup to deal with for grocery shopping than the bungie cargo net. However, the bungie cargo net is a low-cost alternative if you only use it on occasion or use it for short distances.

Cheap way to get my backpack off my back, August 9, 2010
By Brian Williammee (Arlington, VA)
|
|
I recently transitioned from just riding to the metro every day (1.5 miles each way) to riding all the way to work roughly once a week (18 miles each way). I was doing fine with my backpack on my back, but my back would get especially gross with sweat and the backpack did get a little annoying. I considered getting panniers, but they were more expensive. The bungee net, perhaps in conjunction with one or two other bungee cords, has been great for securing my backpack to my rear rack. It's just takes a minute to set up and I haven't had any problems with shifting yet.

bungee straps no more, January 29, 2011
By Honestly Now. . . (Hilo, HI)
|
|
I live in HI, and had to use some cheap bungees before I ordered one of these. Now don't get me wrong, I was grateful to have the bungees, but when you use them really frequently there are always some near misses with the old eyeballs. This cargo net eliminates all that.
With bungees, you have to make them really tight so things don't fall through, and you have to strategically place everything on the rack, then strategically place the bungees, and by then you're cussing because you're not sure if everything's stable enough and your milk is sweating and your ice cream is melting and people in cars are pointing at you saying "THAT is why I don't ride a bike."
Point being: I'm really glad I bought this. It's sturdy, it's strong, and it's worth every penny.

This is a great way to secure things to a bike rack. I went on an overnight camping and biking trip recently where I had to transport a large dutch oven about a mile from our cars to our campsite, on the back of my bike. I secured the dutch oven with this cargo net, and even when my bike fell over at one point, the dutch oven stayed on the back of my bike because of this net. Great product!

Good quality, July 3, 2010
By Mark in Tempe (Tempe, AZ USA)

This is like almost all the other cargo nets. 12" square (unstretched). That's not as large as the Topeak (about 20"x20"). Good, heavy elastic cording. It has metal hooks with a plastic cap on the end. Personally, I prefer the nets with plastic hooks, like the Delta Mega Rack Bicycle Cargo Net. It too is 12" square.

This is a great item. It's one of those no-brainer purchases. It is lightweight, versatile, and inexpensive. What more can you ask for?
I use it to tie down all kinds of stuff on my bike and never an issue. It is light enough for me to bundle it up and slip it in my pack when I leave my bike somewhere. It's strong enough to hold down some pretty hefty items. I once brought home a back of grass seed with it.

Very tough nylon to secure your stuff, July 30, 2010
By C. Joo Kee (Singapore)

This is an excellent net to secure whatever you have to bike the rack. Very strong, I've tried to secure a 3-5KG load using this net. No issues at all. The only thing is that upon mounting a high payload, you need to hook the hooks to the right location to get the tension right. It has to be perfectly tensioned to provide the maximum holding strength.

very useful product, July 11, 2010
By M. Roer (Mojave Desert)

From all the things I bought to help me transport things on my bike, this is the best and cheapest. I bought wire baskets for the front and the back and recently I bought two panniers for shopping bags I am not very happy with. But this little net is perfect. It is very easy to use, does not take much space and enables me to secure nearly everything to my bike. I only have it for two weeks but it has already served me well and I have been able to bring things home on the bike I usually would have to use the car for. I highly recommend it.

Coupled with a rear carrier this will keep items in place or cover a bike basket to keep items from bouncing out. It doesn't scratch, and is adjustable for almost any reasonable load. It will hold your jackets, lunch, groceries....

Great product/efficient/durable and inexpensive solution, September 13, 2009
By C. Jones (Sacramento, CA)
|
|
I bought the Bungie Cargo net to supplement the hold down spring arm that comes on my rear rack. I found the spring arm to be a little weak, and sometimes the angle of the spring arm doesn't properly secure the package and I'd find it falling to one side or the other, or things rattling and eventually tearing thru the paper bag.... so the purchase of this bungie net was a perfect solution. You might have to double sack your groceries if you have a way to go or if the roadway is a bit rough, but it allows you to balance your load in the middle of the rear rack, and holds the groceries or whatever package you might have....very snugly and securely. They don't rattle or break thru a bag because of the shifting or vibration of canned goods or other hard objects. It can be stuffed into a very small space, thus making it easy to take along. One fellow who rated it suggested putting it into a small plastic bottle...great idea that I'll be following. Truly a must-have for those of you who find the need to carry items or bundles on your bike rack and are tired of hanging the plastic grocery bags over the handle bars or wearing a backpack, but you will need a rear rack.

Simple & effective, October 21, 2010
By Ahikanana (HI)
|
|
Besides the overall good reviews, I chose this product because the "eyes" of the net are small enough that small objects won't slip through. I give this 4 stars because the nylon doesn't recoil as much as I expected, which probably explains why some people say that the net sometimes falls off. The hooks are sufficient & sturdy with enough plastic vinyl coating. I'm not sure what others are saying that the coating peels off. I would expect it to peel off after being put through use. Overall, it's a good product.

Perfect for traveling on my FZ6, June 14, 2010

I ride a 2006 Yamaha FZ6 and I use this bungee net for transporting all sorts of items. Shoe box, small duffle bag, extra helmet, lunch pale, back pack, etc. My Yamaha has handles on each side so the hooks are a perfect fit. I have been anticipating the hooks to come unattached from the bungee cord, but they are still holding strong, even after 4 months.
Great value, easy to use. I would definitely buy again if my current one ever fails me (cross my fingers!)

I purchased this bungie net to go with the Kettler rear bicycle basket. I am so glad that I got it! The net covers the basket and not only keeps items securely inside, but also helps keep the basket firmly attached to the bike. The net is well made and the hooks are covered in rubber so they do not scratch the paint. I am pleased with this purchase.

Useful, but cheaply made, August 9, 2011
By lostatlimbo (Portland, OR)
|
|
I used this as others have to secure small loads on my seat post bike rack. Its a great size for a bag of groceries and was very sturdy at first - no tipping or slipping.
After just two uses, the rubber tips on the hooks started slipping off. No biggie - just have to take more care not to puncture my reusable shopping bags. But after only 5-6 trips to the store, one of the cords snapped and is starting to unravel. I tried to tie it back together, but no luck. Now the net is loose and unusable for anything bulkier than a coat or pair of shoes.
I only used it for groceries like others have mentioned - no heavy duty wear and tear, nothing sharp. Maybe I just got a dud, but I already found a cheaper net (made by Delta - same quality brand as my rack), so this thing will go in the garbage after minimal use.

One of the best bike products on the market, July 27, 2011
By BKolomay
|
|
This has saved me countless times riding from having to overload my back pack or having to make the ultimate decision on what to and not to bring with me. Now I'm able to strap something a small as my lunch or as cumbersome as my 50 lb backpack to my rear rack and not have to worry about it slipping off or coming undone, not to mention taking a load off my back. This has saved me from having to buy a more expensive product like a good set of panniers or otherwise to help manage my load. Im only a seasonal rider as it stand right now.
The only thing I wish they had is different size nets, I'd buy all the different sizes just for the versatility. This one will fit my fully loaded pack pack (2-3 textbooks, laptop, and an extra shirt and possibly Adidas pants for work or school) and my lunch bag which can hold a gallon milk container (for sizing reference). Any more then that and there would have to be a bit more repositioning or perhaps failure as this product was designed for maximum weight I'm sure.
I would recommend this to anyone.

great, easy way to bring extra stuff on top of your panniers, June 7, 2011
By C. Chemsak
|
|
this cargo net served me well in a 200 mile bike ride, it allowed me to bring my yoga mat on top of my panniers. It also works well for small things like snacks that you might want to have easy access to. I was worried about there not being enough tension, or safe places to clip all the hooks, but there were no problems at all. I am interested to try it on just my rack though without the same panniers, I hope that it is just as tight and convenient. I recommend this product!

Perfect for a small-size cooler, May 19, 2011
By The Martian
|
|
When I bike I like to have some energy bars, extra water, a jacket, some money and keys, sunglasses and a few other things, and I like to get to them quickly. I found a small cooler (the size that would hold a six-pack)at K-Mart that closes without the need for a zipper, and this bungie net covers it perfectly. I can undo one side of the net and reach everything in seconds!! Sunglasses fit on top of the cooler, underneath the bungie net, and can be removed without even undoing the net, yet everything is very secure; it's perfect for my needs.

Greatness in simplicity, April 26, 2011

Picked this up at a local bike shop. It works like it should. The elastic is very strong on the outer corners but not so much in the middle so it won't crush your stuff. I've had it for almost a year now and the elastic is still in great condition.

Make any bike a utility bike, March 28, 2011
By ralph eickholt

This net works very well with mounted baskets on the back of a bicycle. With three of these nets I'm able to carry large light items on the back of my bicycle very easily. The best feature is that the net does not tangle much, the covers on the hooks are sturdy and so far no rust because of the rubber coating.
Excellent product that all cyclists and even motorcyclists will appreciate.

BEST item ever - saved our bike trip, November 29, 2010
By Barbara Johnson (Rural Georgia, USA)
|
|
A new beach bike and basket would have been unusable without this cargo net. The net was an impulse buy as the new bike had a back rack and I thought it would allow me to strap on what might not go into the new front wicker basket. The first grocery store trip revealed the flaw in the cute wicker bike basket. Once the basket was loaded it dropped onto the front fender making the tire rub. Luckily this net allowed me to move the basket to the back rack and easily attach it by going over the top of the basket and clipping the hooks to the flat rack. It has the extra bonus of keeping goods from blowing out! The basket is about 15" tall and there was no problem using the bungee net. It will stretch to accomodate a pretty big load. My family all agreed it was the best find of the trip. If you use a bike to haul anyting get one of these!!!!

This is one of my favorite bike accessories. I have permanently left it on my front basket, where it compensates for the repeated overloads of groceries. It is easy to hook and unhook and fits around ANYTHING from paper towels to milk bottles to fennel fronds.

Really useful!, September 12, 2010
By H. Wong

I absolutely love this bungie cargo net! I had a really hard time taking my laptop to class in my messenger bag (the backpack I ordered hasn't arrived yet) and this net has made taking it a million times easier - I just strap my messenger bag to my bicycle rack. The net holds the bag tightly - once I was walking my bike and almost tipped the bike over, but even as the bike was nearly sideways, the bag stayed securely on the rack. I also use this for taking groceries back home and it works well too. The brown grocery bag held cardboard cereal/granola boxes and lots of fruit and, even though this net held the bag securely in place, none of the boxes were dented and the fruit was not bruised. I'm very happy with it!

I have been looking for a net to keep things from bouncing out of my front bike basket and this product is it! Fantastic! Couldn't been happier to have found it! The elastic mesh is wonderful and the hook ends are covered with a plastic cap so it doesn't scratch my basket. Perfect size for my basket. Love it!

Handy net, October 30, 2011
By Sir Coogs A Lot

I use this on a bike cargo rack and it works pretty well. The only little issue is that when I have no cargo, it's a little too big so I have to get creative on how to store it without coming loose. Definitely better than having just a single band.

Stout Net!, October 23, 2011
By swtralph
|
|
Got this because I feared I would wear out the Transit(Performance bike brand) cargo bag hauling heavy milk(gallon)jugs, and of course freeing up the cargo bag which i hang from my bike rack for groceries and other items. The net works great for transporting a gallon. I set it on top of the rack and this net holds the jug so smug I doubt it can move at all. In the meantime it is easy to hook the cargo bag on the side.
In addition the net folds up small enough that it fits in the underseat bag I ride with. Since I prefer not to always carry my cargo bag this is nice allowing me to strap any "find" to my bike rack and get it safely home.
This was a lot cheaper than buying a pannier or cargo bag. One might consider using this net for strapping a small gym bag to carry clothing for work or recreation. Again much cheaper than a pannier.

Not as described, January 6, 2012
By Hong Kong Cavalier (Nitro, WV USA)

WTF Amazon?!?! The listing clearly says "Antique Silver French Flatware Set" and yet what I received was a bungie cargo net. Don't get me wrong, the "Sunlite Bicycle Bungie Cargo Net, Black" works wonderfully and appears to be built to last, but I bought this intending it to be a gift for my fiance on our wedding night. She tried to eat with it and now she looks like the Joker, and not the new Joker that everybody went gaga over just because that actor died, but the Joker as played by veteran star of state & screen Cesar Romero. Despite my misgivings, I gave it 5 stars because it is indeed a quality Sunlite Bicycle Bungie Cargo Net, Black and also because ever since we received it, every time I hit my wife exciting sound & campy visual effects come out of nowhere. So, long story short, it's not as described, but the Sunlite Bicycle Bungie Cargo Net, Black makes portaging on a bicycle almost as fun as spousal abuse.

Works as advertised, December 28, 2011
By Yams (Seattle, WA)
|
|
Works great for securing things to my rack. I don't have one piece of equipment I always use on my rack, so the versatility this cargo net gives is very useful in my case. The only downside is that it's very easy to get your net tangled together, and the little plastic hook guards at the end of the hooks come off easily, which then leads to a lot of scratches on your rack/frame.

not large enough, December 16, 2011
By Borello (USA)
|
|
I bought these because of the pictures that I saw on Amazon that showed it as being large. It is too small for my needs. It will work for half a bag of groceries, but not for a full bag. It does not stretch enough, and is also too small to use with a backpack. There is a picture of it being used with a backpack, but I now realize that it is a small backpack. Probably a kids backpack. I use bungee cords instead. Would have returned it, but think it has been more than 30 days now.

I bought this bungie to keep my lifepo4 48v 10ah battery on my electric townie bicycle. I bought the townie bag as well and reviewed that. This works perfect to strap a big heavy battery down. This fits over the townie bag perfectly. I feel i have the perfect setup using this strap, the townie bag and the townie rack for my electric bicycle. For the price of these items you can't go wrong.

A simple net for carrying the odd items, February 28, 2011
By Kevin (FL, USA)
|

I used this with a few different racks (I'm willing to say any rack will work...).
This is great for just securing an oddly shaped bag of groceries, or a basketball, or a packed lunch and a change of clothes. It's lightweight, fairly durable, and easy to use with four attachment hooks. I've stretched it across a medium sized duffel bag with no damage. Seems alright.

A very useful piece of equipment, March 7, 2012
By CPTJOHNC
|
|
I haven't used this net very often, but it is extremely handy when I need it. I have it attached to my rack full time, as a 'just in case' thing. I have used it to hold items as small as a hydration-type pack, when I didn't want it on my back (no -- I couldn't drink from it at the time, either) and as large as a Bankers Box full of binders (which I don't recommend unless you have a really heavy duty rack).
If I could change one thing, it would be to add some additional hooks to the sides, to allow additional snugging of loads. However, I have never had a problem with a load shifting or breaking free.

Great to have along, February 2, 2012
By JapaRider (Somers, NY USA)

This is the perfect, almost weightless item to keep with you for any ride. If you have a rear rack, you can fit almost anything (within reason) on it for that unexpected purchase. I use my bike for errands and don't like carrying a big heavy pack, so anything that won't fit inside (my dinner groceries) goes on the outside with this net. If you stop off for lunch on a ride and only eat half, you can take the other half home under the net. I like it so much, I jsut ordered 2 more for my other bikes!
