Great for 8 speed bikes!, May 28, 2009
By KTMPOAHSAY (Concord, NC USA)

This is a wonderful, smooth chain that has greatly improved the pedaling and shifting performance of my 8 speed Campy Chorus road bike. And the Power Link makes it so easy to get the thing off to clean it, you now have no excuse to ride with anything other than a bright and shiny chain! Recommended to anyone using Campy 8 speed groups.

Too Weak!, October 15, 2011
By dana7 (delaware, ohio)

I installed this chain and a new cassette. I selected the 870 chain because I thought it was strong. It is not. It has broken three times within the first two months - it just pulled apart in three different places. Perhaps it's me; I am a big guy who sometimes stay in high gears when perhaps he shouldn't, but my old chain could take it fine, and it was a lot cheaper than a Sram 870. I have tried to find real specifications on the Sram website to help me select their strongest chain to replace this one, but there is nothing but sales fluff.
Can somebody please recommend a STRONG chain, and back it up with some real documentation?

I absolutely love this chain, May 27, 2011

I rode my bike with the chain it came with when I bought it new last summer. I put a solid 1000 miles on it throughout the summer and fall. I bought this chain in November of 2010. Once I finally put this SRAM chain on, I instantly felt the difference when I tested it around the neighborhood. The pedaling felt butter smooth. I felt like a moron when I had the biggest and dumbest grin on my face when I rode down the block with this chain on.
What I loved most about this chain, besides the fact it's so incredibly smooth on the road, is that the installation was easy as pie with the Power Link. This is the open link that snaps into place when you want to close the loop at the end of installation. I know it'll be just as easy to remove when I replace it with a new chain, this same model, early next month (June 2011).
This chain was an excellent investment for my bike. I highly recommend it.

a must for any biker on the trail/road, July 10, 2011

currently using the pc 830 on a 6 speed with no problems for just under a month, so i'll just have to trust that this will be just as good, if not better. got this to use as a spare. the powerlink innovation can never be overrated.
4 stars to reflect how the 830 is performing. will update appropriately in a few mos.

No whips just chains, November 4, 2011

This bike chain was easy to install and worked flawlessly. SRAM chains are always smooth and quiet. You will not regret getting a SRAM chain for your bike.

Holy Smooth Shifting!, February 14, 2012
By Joe

I'm amazed with the quality of this chain. My 7 speed shifts beautiful now! On the cassette, downshifts are straight up silent and up-shifts make one soft click and the chain is engaged. It also grabs onto the large chainring almost instantly. I'm running friction shifters, so feel is important in finding engagement points. Buttery smooth chain.
I cannot attest to durability, since I've only had it on a few days.
However, the oustanding performance gets it 5 stars from me.

Simple installation for a fixed gear, February 6, 2012

Used this chain on my fixed gear conversion. Truly simple installation with the SRAM lock.
Just make sure you have a chain tool to push out the pin so you can get the right length.

I've used this chain on a road bike for about 200 miles now and it's held up just fine. The master link made it easy to install.

Long life for short money!, January 8, 2012
By Kenneth Crooks

Very pleased with SRAM 870 and the Power Link. Excellent life and I am not one to maintain my bike frequently. Works great with my old Campag Athena 8-speed group from 1994.
Commute and ride approx 1700 miles per year and get years from each chain.

The master link is AMAZING, November 23, 2011
By Thomas Backs

|
The master link makes this so amazing. No need to worry about only have one universal pin. You just pop of the links you need and pop in the master link and BAM you are back to riding. I shortened my on the side of the trail. It took my longer to get my gloves off and the chain tool out than taking out the links.

5 minute install!, August 2, 2010
By MrHans (Chicago, Illinois!)

It took only five minutes to put this on after spending a coupla minutes reading the directions. The master link slides together to remove or pull chain from either to lock in place. As you ride the master link tightens into position. Was a no brainer replacement for the 5 year old SRAM PC38 I recently snapped cranking away from a stop.

This chain is just as good as a Shimano, but the link is reusable and easy to disconnect.

SRAM PC 870 P-Link Chain, August 15, 2011
By ilive4thefun

Chain seems to have a nice finish that should hold up to daily commutes and weekend trail riding. Easy to install only had to shorten a few links and it was on and ready to go. P-Link system is a must have.

not whats pictured, April 26, 2010
By Dick Nixon (L.I. N Y)

I really like the sram chains only because they are the old sachs brand. When they were sachs they were known for their quality - price ratio. However the chain in the picture is not the chain advertised had I known that I wouldv'e tried to find that one. Also since sram bought the brand theyv'e raised the price considerably

Easy install, smooth shifting, March 9, 2012
By Dingo (USA)
|
|
I installed this chain after breaking the one that came with my (rather old) bike. I immediately noticed quieter and smoother shifts with the new chain, though it could be just an indication of how cheap the OEM chain was. I wish I had replaced it sooner. Installation was a simple matter thanks to the power link, although I did need to shorten the chain by one link to size it to my bike. A basic chain tool was sufficient to remove the unneeded link.

Not much to say, PLink is nice and comes pre-lubed. Replaced rear cassette at same time and shifting is really smooth now.
