4.0 out of 5 stars.  A reasonable, if lightweight, bike rack, October 20, 2008
By Windrider (Redmond, WA, USA)
After my roommate had his bicycle stolen in the middle of the night, we decided that it might be wise to get something better than locking the bike to itself, or try to secure it (with great difficulty and a weak chain) around one of the support poles of the carport of the apartment complex. My bike and his replacement bike both have heavy-duty D-locks, but they require something good to connect the bike to, like a bike rack.

Our apartment complex had no bike racks, so we had to fend for ourselves. After reading our lease agreement, we decided that since the parking spot could be used for "vehicles and accessories required for parking vehicles", they wouldn't raise a fuss about a bike rack. It's safer, more secure, and has a better appearance than bicycles tied to random objects around the complex, as is the current status quo. This seemed effective and inexpensive, so we ordered it.

It took the two of us about 45 minutes to put it together, ignoring the time it took to bike out and buy the 10mm crescent wrench we needed. (A socket wrench would also have worked.) It's not included, and I wouldn't expect it to be, but knowing which wrench you need seems like a useful piece of information that's not published here.

The aluminum tubes are hollow, but sturdy enough; that said, a solid pair of bolt cutters could probably break through any of the bars on the rack, so if you have a good bike lock, the rack itself is your weakest link. A thief with a pickup truck rather than a solid set of bolt cutters could potentially take the entire rack, with the bikes still attached, and drive off; that said, it is significantly more encumbering than just taking the bike. This is mitigated by locking the rack itself to something more stable; we've got a heavy chain and a strong padlock affixing the rack I purchased to one of the support beams at the apartment complex.

This is a traditional-design bike rack, which is to say it's designed for you to roll your front wheel in. Convenient, but not very secure, because it's impossible to lock a D-lock around all of the frame, the rack, and the front wheel at the same time; you can only get the rack and the wheel, or the wheel and the frame. Fortunately, this design can be completely ignored. A bike can be moved over the top of the rack, so the top bar of the rack goes between the front wheel and the frame; this "throw-over" style of rack usage allows the bike to be secured properly, and the two larger gaps are perfect for this. Attaching a bike to the side of the stand also allows for secure locking.

However, this usage only allows for four bikes, not six. Six bikes on the rack would be awkward and crowded anyway; even alternating direction, as is plainly required, using the expected spaces to park a bike would still result in a lot of handlebar collision.

This is a good rack if you want to use it as a throw-over, and if you lock it to something. You do need a secure attachment point and a good chain, however, because the rack is lightweight; with that in mind, this is recommended for those who need to secure a bike outside and have reasonable space to do so.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  sturdy rack, awful packaging, June 12, 2008
By Kiri M. Miller (Providence, RI)
The good news: this rack is sturdier than it looks in the picture -- quite hefty and stable when assembled. The bad news: it was shipped in the box in which it would appear on a store shelf (no outer box) and was therefore missing half its bolts and washers by the time it arrived, lost through assorted tears and gouges. I tried to enter an Amazon customer service complaint about this but the website was not working properly, so I just went to the hardware store for new bolts. This worked out fine, but really this rack is too expensive for that kind of BS.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Bike Rack for Home Use, May 25, 2009
By K. Porter
This is a very sturdy bike rack with a solid black finish. I would definitely recommend it. Easy to assemble although a metric wrench was needed but not included. We are using it in the garage for our kids' bikes. Easily fits 4 full sized bikes. The remaining 2 bikes need to be child sized or be put in backwards to have enough room for the handlebars. A nice size and good quality for home use.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Simple Solid & Sturdy, May 19, 2008
By Joe G. (Pueblo, CO USA)
This is the perfect rack for an area where room is a consideration. Its' simple design made it easy to assemble and install. Its' solid material allowed me to have it "tack welded" for better security and its' sturdy design keeps it solidly and soundly in place. Several users are very happy with it. Can't beat the results for the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Very Good Product but....., April 20, 2011
By JS
This is exactly what I was looking for. We placed it up against a garage wall and easily fit 3 bikes (29er, road, and regular MTB) with no problem. If you leave room on both sides you can easily fit 5 bikes, 6 could be done but it may get a little tight. The construction seems solid (steel, I think) with a nice black finish.

Some stands seem to rub up against disc brakes or gears. I see no problems like this with this stand.

Here's the but... Like other reviewers, my box (with no outer packaging) arrived very quickly but the 8 screws, 8 nuts and 16 washers were not in the plastic bag and were loose inside the box. Luckily, are the parts were accounted for. If the box had been damaged or punctured in transit these parts would have definitely fallen out. I guess you easily replace these parts yourself or have them sent to you but it would be an extra hassle. Just something to be aware of...

I still give the item 5 stars since it's a quality product and is exactly what I was looking for.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Greta stand, July 8, 2010
By Posimotive (Seattle, WA USA)
This stand is very well made without weighing a ton. Assembly is easy. To fit 6 bikes of the same size you'll need to alternate front in - back in. Otherwise handle bars are in the way of each other. Also alternate side that has brake rotor or it will be in the way of the other tire. No sweat once you get everyone cooperating with the system. I also throw this in my truck to transport multiple bikes. Keeps from laying them on top of one another getting scratched and damaged.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great for storing free-standing bikes, not so much for security, May 11, 2010
By M. Cheah
Overall, this is a fairly cheaply made product. This does not, however, mean that it is a poor product. You bolt it together with a wrench and some Allen keys. This also makes it very lightweight. While you may have trouble fitting the fully advertised 6 bikes in the rack, you could easily do 2 comfortably on each side. The design allows you to very easily roll a 700C wheel into the slots and leave it free standing without any concern for the bike tipping over. Because anyone with a hex key and a wrench can effectively dismantle your bike stand, this does not make for a very secure solution. Although it is probably better than bolting your bike to nothing. Even if you couldn't dismantle it so easily, the tubes are so thin and light, that a thief could more easily cut the rack than your U lock.
For me, it is an ideal solution to storing bikes in my garage. With this rack, I don't need to fuss around with pulling bikes down from a wench on the ceiling, it's just roll out and go.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Works great and easy to assemble, January 16, 2011
By tv addict (Utah, USA)
Our garage was being overrun by bicycles belonging to my son and his friends. When this rack arrived I had it assembled in about ten minutes, and now the garage clutter is much reduced. It's easy to use and holds everything we've put on it so far (including a Razor scooter and a unicycle). Solid and stable.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Pretty good, May 11, 2010
By unclemat (United States)
Seems to work ok and it's pretty strudy. Supplied bolts are too long, I am going to cut them so they don't protrude so much. Someone can step on them and get hurt. Also there is nothing to lock down the tubes together except the bolts torque. Cutouts of some sort would make it rock solid. Fits three bikes on each side, but the adjacent bikes should be placed in opposite directions so the handle bars do not interfere.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Sturdy and works well, December 2, 2009

This product works well. Easy installation and the material seems sturdy. It will handle six bikes but one has to use both sides three bikes on each side. I am pleased with this purchase.

Bought this to make room in the garage with all the bikes. Came in great time. Was easy for me to put together. Didn't need the husbands help at all. Holds 6 bikes fairly well. Good quality frame. Heavy duty.

Easy to set up, well constructed. It is very stable and holds three bikes to each side. We have it in our living room to hold our road bikes securely. It looks nice and works even better. I would highly recommend this product.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Thule??, October 21, 2011
By babyboomerbikes
Well, I received all the hardware and put it together.. I was expecting a rack by Thule as the ad said. This rack is pure Chinese and there is no mention of Thule on the package or the product. Other Thule products I purchased in the past had the word Thule made in Sweden embossed on the product which is what I expected. Cheap Chinese worth about $30.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  It works...., September 4, 2011
By Curtis Moore
Bought to use in apt to take care of organizing 1 BMX and 2 Mountain Bikes. Quick and easy to assemble. I have the rounded side against the wall so I have all three on one side. Fits all well. Heavy duty enough to be quite stable but easily movable. Would purchase again.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Serves Its Purpose, May 30, 2011
By Mermaid (The Atlantic Ocean)
While this bicycle rack serves its purpose and does exactly what I intended for it to do when I purchased it, I must say I'm a tad bit disappointed.

The bolts are WAY too long and I do not have a bolt cutter. The reason this is a problem is because you cannot screw the pieces together tightly enough so that the pieces don't wobble and slant. I have no clue why they would make the bolts too long for this product. It just doesn't make any sense.

Anyway, it doesn't take up too much space, but there's no way it could "easily" fit 6 bicycles. We fit 3 kids bicycles on one side VERY snugly and close to each other, so when the kids take out their bikes another bike (if not both of the remaining bikes) get knocked over. On the other side we have 3 scooters and a skateboard, which fit just fine.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Organizes bikes as described., May 22, 2011
By L. Cook (New Jersey)
I bought this and had my 3 year old son help assemble it with two 10mm wrenches. Easy asembly and when we were done I was able to fit our six mountain bikes in it by putting 3 in front and 3 on back side of it. It is sturdy. No complaints.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Works as advertised!, April 29, 2011
By klotz491
Received bike rack only two days after ordering! All parts accounted for. I especially appreciated that the hardware pieces were kept in a plastic ziploc-type bag. Assembly was simple (my 7-year old did most of it). We have 2 - 26" bikes, 1 - 20" bike, and 3 - 16" bikes in the rack now. While the unit could use some cross-bracing to keep it square, I think it feels pretty solid. We'll see how it stands up to the kids!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  No more jumbled mess, December 3, 2011
By terriel7
Finally got around to buying a bike rack for our bikes. We have 5 people in our family and with the kids getting bigger we have 5 adult sized bikes that would end up as a sideways pile on the floor because 3 bikes do not have kick stands. Now the rack takes up little room in our basement(although the bikes themselves consume space)and is easy enough for my youngest daughter to pick up and move. It is very sturdy and would be super easy to take with us camping if we wanted. The price is probably the best part, it is definately worth the money!

3.0 out of 5 stars.  It serves a purpose, September 15, 2011
By gkr
Bike rack was easy to put together. Problem is it is lightweight and needs to be placed in an open area if you have more than 3 bikes because you need to use both sides. I'm not sure how sturdy it will be if completely full. I haven't tested that yet.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  very good bike rack, September 7, 2011

Was not hard to assemble, although nuts and bolts were all over the box. The actual rack is quite solid and easily accommodates 4 bikes; 5 bikes OK; 6 a squeeze. Makes a big difference in storing bikes.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Not a very good value, August 24, 2011

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great garage solution to bike clutter!, November 3, 2010
By sgreenway
This bike valet was a great investment to help with garage clutter. Works best to have bikes parked from both directions (otherwise handlebars don't permit as many across), so consider that when figuring out how it will work in your garage space. Sturdy and well built. Very happy with the product and the neater garage.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Thank goodness for easy bike storage!, October 28, 2010
By 4BoyMamma
The bikes and scooters of 4 boys were a constant headache. We tried the hook & pulley system from the ceiling, but it just wasn't simple enough. We are able to get all the bikes and scooters in this using both sides. Best of all, the boys can do it themselves! Set up was easy. Giving the bikes a home is what has made the difference in getting the bikes put away (though not w/o occasional reminders-of course).

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Fine for bikes with thinner tires, January 21, 2012
By Just a guy (Santa Cruz, CA)
We were looking for a way to organize our garage and this kind of fit the bill. After some tweaking, we were able to store five bike in it.

Pros:
1. Fairly solid rack if you really crank down on the screws.

2. Decent value for the money.

Cons:
1. Will not fit any tire larger than 2". This rack wouldn't fit our cruisers or mountain bikes without muscling the slot tubes on the rack. Also, this rack is useless for child bikes with wheels 20" in diameter or less.

2. Not sure if this was due to the way it was stored, shipped or manufactured, but the rack arrived with surface. 10 minutes and some steel wool cleaned it up good as new. We live on the coast, so it'll rust eventually anyway.

Overall, it serves its purpose. I was expecting something a little better quality from Thule.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  cleaned up the garage!, January 19, 2012

This rack is a synch to put together, and it really cleans up the garage. No more bikes lying around all over each other. Place it in the right place and you can get bikes in from both sides too. Why didn't I buy this sooner?

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Be warned - "by Thule" is description is false....., February 2, 2012
By Joe
Gets the job done, but chose this particular item as the description noted "-by Thule"....not so. All these bike valets look the same, so I figured I'd go with a brand name...no where does it say it is a Thule item...might as well order the cheapest one on Amazon...all look like the same item right off the boat from China. Product seems fine, but was a little disturbed by the bait and switch!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Easy to Build and does what I need, April 24, 2012
By Amz Shopper (West Coast, USA)
I was looking for a bike rack where my kids could remove their bikes on their own...so none of the hanging type racks was going to work for me. This works great. My only hesitation with this rack is that down the road I can imagine myself having to tighten the bolts periodically. Regardless for the price I can't complain too much.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Sturdy Enough, Holds Bikes Well, April 9, 2012
By Kerton (Pleasanton, US, Canada)
This one assembled in 20 minutes. It is sturdier than I had expected, and I'm currently using it to hold three bikes.

What I like about it is that I can put it up against the wall now for three bikes, but can expand it later by using both sides.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good product overall, March 8, 2012
By beept (MN United States)
Purchased this with hopes of bringing some organization to our kids bikes. Works just fine and assembly was easy. We are using it to hold 2 - 20" BMX bikes, 1- 18" BMX bike, and 3 Razor scooters. None of our bikes have kickstands, so this worked great.
