Fantastic rack, September 29, 2008
By StarLightStarBright (VA United States)
|
|
This is a very well-made rack that works beautifully. The bikes are super secure, no scratches on anything (car or bikes) it's easy to install and set up and the price is good (you can get it for ~$135). The powdercoated finish is a nice touch, too.
The hitch pin is the screw type so it's a slight pain but worth it for the secure, totally quiet ride.
The rack fits a 1.25" receiver and an adapter is included to fit a 2" but I have no experience with that as my receiver is a 1.25".
I'll never go back to a frame-mount rack. (Hey, that rhymes...)

2' receivers should avoid, April 19, 2010
By Older & Wiser (Oklahoma)
|
|
The rack is decent. If I had a 1-1/4 receiver I might be thrilled, but the plastic adapter they provide for 2" hitches is a joke. Be prepared to try an find a suitable steel adapter for $20-$40 elsewhere if you use this rack because the provided plastic adapter is worthless. My rack sagged and drooped in the hitch before I even put the bikes on. I felt it necessary to use a ratchet strap attached to my pickup to support the weight of the rack and the bikes.

Better than the similar Swagman rack, October 13, 2009
By Pete H.
|
|
The similar Swagman was OK, but had a few problems. After a year and a half we switched to this rack. Everything is more solid. The finish is better. The bikes are a little further from the car, which is nice. The square tube which goes into the hitch kicks upward, which prevents the grounding on driveways we would always get with the Swagman on our 1991 Miata.
Also, the wheel straps are extra security. We actually lost a bike off the back of the Swagman (not this rack). The top tube hook wasn't correctly ratcheted down, which can happen with tall bikes on these racks (see the reviews). Wheel straps like the one on this rack would have prevented that disaster. That said, the clamp bolts on this rack are quite secure, so it's probably safe enough to skip strapping the wheels down for short trips.
The price difference is currently about $30, but it's money well spent.

Good quality, functions misleading, June 5, 2009
By B. Johnson

First of all, I will say that this rack is made well and keeps the bikes really stable.
However, i was looking for a sturdy rack that would allow me to access the rear of my SUV. This rack does NOT tilt out of the way with the bikes in place. Only the upright post tilts out of the way and only when the bikes are off.

2EZ Premium Hitch A30901LR, August 3, 2011
By Apricot
|
|
Just a heads up people, this is the old model on Amazon. The new model, denoted by the LR at the end, comes with a screw hitch lock and ratcheting lock arms on top. So there are three locks, the hitch and each arm for the bikes. They use the same key so it is convenient. Just do a little searching as I found it for $165 shipped which is cheaper than this model if you include the locking mechanism.
Pros:
-Included locks
-ratcheting arms
-no wobble in the hitch (since the lock is screwed in)
-The center pole can bend back for easy removal/setup of the bikes.
Cons:
-The inner bike rack sits a bit close to the trunk (I think this is common with all racks) so you may want to put a cover on the bike pedal.
-Because the center pole can rotate, it is held in place by a pin, so the center pole wobbles a bit.
-the sliding wheel platform mechanism (where you loosen/tighten the slide) look like they could be made of stronger material.
-just be aware that the hitch lock prevents easy setup/removal of the rack. you have to unlock and unbolt it from the hitch using a socket wrench. it's actually pretty easy and takes like 2minutes, this is just a heads up.
edit: Thule actually carries identical racks as Sportrack. The newer version I am speaking of Thule 2 Bike Hitch Platform (2 and 1.25-Inch ) can be found on Amazon for a higher price than what I bought it for. If I were to spend that much money, I would consider this rack instead by Thule 990XT Doubletrack Platform Bike Hitch Rack

Rack was a waste of money for me, August 3, 2011
By Charles A. Martin
|
|
This rack has very nice features and seem to work well in IDEAL conditions. I recently used this rack to transport two adult bikes on a 600 mile round trip vacation and now don't think I will ever use it again. I travel alot and intended to use this rack for my out of town trips. What I found is that the way the mount fits the hitch alows it to sway and bounce around to much when loaded with 2 adult bikes. This seems to have weakened the mounting arm because the bikes were leaning backward when I arrived home. Additionally the rubber on the keeper hook split (both bikes) and rubbed the paint off of my bikes.
The conclusion I have come up with it that this may be a good rack for short trips around town or for childrens bikes that aren't that heavy, but not much more.

Do not expect support from manufacturer, May 11, 2011
By George
|
|
Plastic parts fit poorly. Instructions need magnifying glass to clearly determine order of assembly of upper brackets (part H). I put the wrong bracket on first and could not remove it to correct. Used a hammer. Cheap plastic part inside clamp broke. Called manufacturer to replace part and was told it was my fault (which it probably was) and only thing they would do is send me a complete new clamp and hook to hold top of bike, all for $30, plus shipping I assume. There are six clamps with plastic inserts. Warning, remove metal casing around plastic part inside clamps, assemble plastic around square tube then put metal casing back on. This was the only way I was able to assemble. Figured it out too late. Really mad about the manufacturer's attitude. I know the plastic adapter for 2 inch hitch will stink too. This is my first review of a product.

bike carrier, November 22, 2009
By D. Fine (Butler,PA)
|
|
I am pleased with this carrier. It arrived super fast.Ordered it Wed.nite, had it Fri.afternoon.One of the plastic parts was damaged but still usable.I called the number with the instructions and had a replacement in a couple of days. The only thing I didn't like was the spacer for using in a 2 inch receiver. It doesn't bolt to the main bar and when you try to install carrier into hitch the spacer has a tendency to move making it hard to install the bolt that secures carrier to hitch. The spacer has two small holes so I just drilled and tapped a hole in the main bar and screwed the spacer to the main bar.Problem fixed.

Sa Far, So Good, August 16, 2009
By Wingin' it (Pennsylvania)
|
|
The SportRack is more than sturdy enough for my 2 mountain bikes. I like the fact that the bikes are very securely attached (velcro wheel straps and rigid frame hook). The hook is coated with foam, so it won't damage the paint. When hauling the bikes, there is virtually no movement, no rattling and no worry. The adaptable hitch coupler is an awesome feature, allowing the SportRack to fit either the 2" coupler on my Nissan Titan or the 1.25" coupler on my wife's Mountaineer. The need to use a wrench to install is kind of a bummer, but it does force you to tighten the "hitch pin bolt" completely and is the reason the rack is so "secure". Build quality of the rack is top-notch. Everything fits spot-on and all of the features work as advertised.

Problems With the Super EZ Sport Rack, July 24, 2011
By Jhart
|
|
Problems With the Super EZ Sport Rack
The locks are a joke! With the bikes strapped, clamped and locked they were still easy to remove by just unstrapping the wheels and lifting then out of the wheel trays and then down out of the hooks.
Couldn't get both clamp hooks to go down far enough to securely hold our no cross bar, step through bikes.
With the clamp hooks as low as they would go the release buttons were inaccessible as they were behind the front sprocket.
The rack had far too much play (floppiness) side to side and up and down.
There was too much pressure and reliance on the plastic wheel straps to hold the bikes in place. If one of them were to break the bike would probably fall off.
The Allen bolt mentioned in the instructions that secures the plastic 2" receiver adaptor was missing.

Excellent gear for the cash, March 6, 2009
By jimmy751
|
|
I've used this rack on one long road trip and several weekender trips including a bit of offroading. The rack works great and keeps the bikes secure even over rough terrain. The bolt-style hitch pin may seem like a pain but it contributes alot to this stability- without it you'd need to add a separate stabilizer to get the same level of support for the bikes. For security I just run a cable lock thru the safety chain loop on my hitch- no need for for a locking hitch pin. My only gripe is that I can't open the hatch on my SUV- but hey, I didn't have to pay $350 either so I still give it 5 stars.

hand-ratchet mania, December 20, 2009
By discombob
|
|
This rack isn't too bad... I don't really expect it to last too long, but then it was also much cheaper than the Euracks with the ratcheting/locking channels. You get what you pay for, but I didn't expect the cheap hand-cranking lock mechanism. Examine a zoomed picture carefully of this before you buy, but it should hold up as long as you aren't putting 2 50+ lbs monster freeride bikes on it. Also make sure to crank those fasteners reeeeeaally tight on longer or bumpy trips so you don't lose your bike.

Good Choice, September 3, 2009
By T. Mason (FAYETTEVILLE, GEORGIA United States)

I love this rack. You don't have to struggle trying to fit your bike (or bikes) on two poles. Easy on, easy off. And the rack holds the bike(s) very securely. One very, very important thing to remember with this rack; make sure you insert the locking pin that holds the verticle bar in the upright position. If you forget to do this your beloved bike will be securely dragged to death.

You can trust the amazon reviews for this rack, May 24, 2010
By nobody123 (St. Paul, MN)
|
|
I spent so much time researching hitch mount bike racks on different sites and I should have just trusted the amazon reviews on this one. This hitch has been everything I was looking for. Where to start?
1) Lightweight for easy install and un-install to your hitch. 2) Solid parts made from sturdy materials 3) Super fast/easy to install your bikes, takes no longer than 2 min to install both bikes safely and securely. 4) No rattle at Interstate speeds 5) Simple/fast instructions for assembly 6) Great design with the upward angle to avoid scraping when going down steep driveways. (some other models did not have that when I was doing research, this model does)
The only thing I had issues with was the initial install of the rack. This could have been the size of the rack itself or my hitch but I had to file away the edges for it to fit inside my hitch properly. That took me about an hour of sanding and filing away to finally make it fit. After that it's been nothing but perfect though. Highly recommended if you're looking for an easy hitch mount rack solution.

Do Not Purchase Under ANY Circumstances, October 2, 2011
By John G. Schweiger
|
|
IF you purchase this you WILL lose your bike. A bigger pile of junk I have not seen. Buy a cheap rack from wal mart you will be happier. No matter what you do the clamps let loose. The tightening knobs break easily. The whole rack jumps around when you drive and helps to loosen the bikes. When you need spare parts figure more than a half hour wait on the phone for customer service. You can't order from their web site. By the way this item appears to be made by THULE because thats who you call for parts. I have used this on trips and around town and usually something breaks each time. I've given up ordering parts for it because it took months last time. I have other racks, a cheap one I bought for $50 is far and away a more secure and better built rack.

Replacement for a wrecked one, April 26, 2010
By A reader from Redwood City, California (Redwood City, CA United States)

This is a replacement for the same rack that was wrecked when someone hit me from the rear. It is perfect for my heavy electric hybrid bike. Gladly, the bike wasn't on it during the accident. The good person who hit me paid for a new one. So I bought the same one again. Salvaged a few spare parts from the wreckage. Happy.

What a great bike rack!, September 23, 2009
By D. LaRoche (Murfreesboro, TN USA)
|
|
Our last rack was the strap-on kind. It took forever to take on and off and the straps damaged our brake cables and constantly had to be tightened. We changed my wife's station wagon and decided to install a hitch solely for this bike rack. What a good decision!
Expect 30 minutes to put the rack together from the box. The instructions are diagram only, but I didn't find it too difficult. The hardest part of hooking it to your car is wrenching in the bolt which secures the rack to your hitch. It was a little cumbersome as my wife's car is small (1.5" hitch) with not much room to work with, and we didn't have a lug wrench to tighten the bolt. I found that, if you lifted the rack with your left hand to take pressure off the hitch, you could mostly screw in the bolt with your fingers.
Putting the bikes on is very easy. You don't have to lift them more than a foot or so from the ground. The wheels fit right into the easily adjusted wheel wells and an included velcro strap secures them. Another L-shaped bar slides over the top bar of the bike to hold it in place. The center-of-weight of the bikes is very low and that gives more stability than other hitch-mounted racks I have seen. I feel very comfortable going down the interstate with both bikes.
The hitch rack itself folds up and locks in place for storage. The whole system fits nicely in the back of the wagon. There is a plastic adapter for those who need to fit onto a 2" hitch.

Decent rack; poor workmanship, October 7, 2011
By Gregory L. Stanley
|
|
This is a good rack that works well. Unfortunately, it seemed that I had to rebuild it before using it. First, the locking pin wouldn't go through one of the horizontal arms. After a struggle, I looked into the hole with a flashlight and realized the arm had been factory installed upside down so that the slot on one side of the hole didn't line up with the slot in the frame. Easy enough to take it off and turn it over. Then 2 of the tire trays wouldn't slide onto the tire tray arm. Finally looking inside, I noticed the mfr's mold had left a plastic lip inside that prevented it from going on. I used a flat file to file down the lip and it then went on fine. Then putting it onto my truck, the plastic spacer to use it in a 2" hitch would slide when trying to line up the holes with the hitch. The plastic sleeve had screw holes for screws to attach the plastic sleeve to the metal 1-1/4" hitch insert, but no screws and no holes in the metal insert. I had to buy screws, drill holes, and tap the holes to create threads. With that now attached to the metal insert, I then found that the hitch bolt wasn't long enough to go through and attach the clip on the other side...therefore nothing to keep the bolt from working loose and eventually falling out. You can't buy this size bolt threaded to the cap at a hardware store, but was able to get one at a local bike shop that is long enough to go through with room for a nut. After all this, the rack is a good one, is sturdy, and easy to use. The workmanship is terrible. I don't recommend purchasing it unless you have the tools and ability to rebuild it before using it. If you're a do-it-yourselfer with tools, it's a nice project and you'll end up with a good bike rack.

Rack arrived day earlier, but came in open box, broken links from screws and chipped paint!!!. I assumed it was returned item by previous client. I didn't send it back because I have fixed those little things on my own.
It happened first time to me that product came from Amazon in such a bad condition!!.
Rack is performing pretty well. I didn't loose my bike yet : . I would recommend this product and give 5 stars but because of bad quality of shipment 4 stars.

Nice Product, inexpensive, but not cheap, September 13, 2011
By Michael Thompson
|
|
Before purchasing, I investigated several different racks. I knew I wanted a model with tire trays, and not a free hanging rack. This just seemed like a more sturdy design to me, plus a trunk-mounted rack runs the risk of scratching the paint on your car if not installed correctly.
The SportRack accomplished both goals in an easy to install package. I also did not have a receiver hitch on my car previously so if you're in the market for a hitch as well, the rack matched up well with the Curt Class II hitch I selected: Curt Manufacturing 12044 Class II Receiver
The rack slides into the hitch easily and is held in place by a threaded hitch pin. Using a ratchet and socket, the hitch can be installed in about five minutes with no problems.
The rack is sturdy, but not unnecessarily heavy. Two bikes fit on it well, and sit far enough apart to not bump pedals too much. Bikes are held in place by separate padded vertical arms that hold each bike down by their top tube. Large knobs make the adjustments easy and hand tightening holds them rock solid. My bike's top tube is straight, so I can't speak for how well the rack would hold a bike with a slanted top tube in place, but wouldn't expect major issues based on the design. Also, if you are only hauling one bike, the 2nd set of tire trays and the vertical arm can be removed for storage as well.
Additional velcro straps fit over the tire rims, but obviously don't supply much in the way of holding power.
I have used this rack now on many short trips, as well as two long trips, one over 1100 miles and one about 350, and my bikes haven't budged the entire time.
I would definitely recommend this rack to others.

Disappointed, August 27, 2011

Waited several months after purchase to put it together. We were excited to use it for a planned camping trip. When installing the tongue I found one of the two 17mm bolt holes without threads. Grrrrr. Too stubborn to admit defeat, I bought a tap and threaded the hole myself. I know mistakes happen but I also know the value of quality control in the manufacturing process. Wonder how many other units are out there like mine?

SportRack Platform Rack, July 19, 2011
By MarkZda
|
|
I was first a little unsure about mounting a hitch rack on my 2004 Matrix. I had fumbled with other type racks before. Straps on the car scratched the paint so i wanted to try something different. I ordered a hitch from Uhaul 123.00 dollars, mounted the hitch and ordered the Sportsrack from Amazon. Local price for this rack was 250.00 to 289.00. I paid 148.00 through Amazon. It came in three days, 20 minutes assembly time, 5 minutes it was on the car and I was off. Great product as it folds up when not in use and folds down to allow access to the hatchback. The rack is pretty solid as it uses a threaded hitch pin. No more bikes banging off the car.great product...... super price.

Very secure, strong, and easy to use bike rack., July 3, 2011
By Ryan Loiacono

The SportRack A30901 2EZ bicycle rack is one of the best out on the market today. It holds the bicycles very securely with no movement. It is well constructed and has robust parts that should last a long time. It is also easy to assemble and set up for various sized bicycles. My only wish is that the hitch lock and bicycle locks were included with the rack, but they are not; (this is very common with most racks and SportRack follows suit). Overall, the buyer of this rack will be very pleased with the purchase.

Same as xPort from PerformanceBike, June 16, 2011
By AWD
|
|
I had the Performance Bike xPort rack for about 4 years, very happy with that rack until someone hit-and-run and destroyed one of the wheel trays. The price of this item is lower than xPort and from the picture it looks the same so I decided to give it a try. Got it last night and it is exactly like xPort so I end up just replacing the wheel tray and save the rest as spare parts. Comparing with the Swagman that my co-worker has, the ground clearance seems better.

Very good product with one inconvenience, March 23, 2011
By bds
|
|
This is a well made bike rack that was easy to assemble and will keep your bikes secure without swaying. The only complaint I have is about the hitch tube. The coating on the rack makes it look nice, however, the coating on the hitch tube prevented it from fitting my Curt 1-1/4" hitch (Product # 12291) correctly; I had to grind the coating off the hitch tube before the holes would meet. Unfortunately, when it's mounted, there is about 3 inches on the exposed part of the hitch tube without the "nice" coating. It was a minor inconvenience but one nevertheless. Despite this issue, you'll get a quality product at a reasonable price compared to a similar Yakima or Thule rack.

good for carrying bikes, not great otherwise, August 23, 2011
By DPac (Connecticut)
|
|
I don't love this rack. Most of the time, unfortunately, the rack is empty and folded up when we're driving. The only way to open the rear door of the car is to completely unfold the rack. This means taking out three pins which don't come out easily. You may think, it's good the pins don't come out easily, but they are designed with a tiny knob on one side, so the pin can only fit into the hole one way and then can be turned to lock the pin. But even when the hole is lined up, it is still a struggle to remove the pin.
The rack was put together incorrectly at the factory. I had to take it partially apart and turn things around. It only took 20 minutes but kind of annoying that it wasn't done correctly the first time. The pins are connected to the rack by thin wire. I'm not sure what happened, but after one use, the wire for one pin was severed, and then, even though the pins are challenging to insert and remove, was lost on a drive.
It's a little awkward getting the bikes on the rack but I think this is just developing a system, which bikes goes on first, etc.
This rack is very good at holding the bikes, there is very little movement of the bikes while driving. So for it's main purpose, I would give the rack a 4.5 but for ease of use the rest of the time, 2 stars.
I believe there is a rack on amazon that is a little more expensive but allows easier access to the rear of the car, it would be worth the extra money for that feature.
I'll be contacting the company to get a replacement pin.

I like good quality products. Comparing the SportRack to Thule or Yakima, SportRack is not a high end product. It could do the job, but for sure with less satisfaction.
I would give it a 3 stars if Thule and Yakima will not be out there with a similar product that is going to get teh 5 stars. But comparing SportRack with Thule and Yakima, I cannot give it more than 2 stars.

Great Deal For The Money, May 11, 2012
By jeremyc1976
|
|
I actually purchased the SportRack during the summer last year, but I wanted to see how it held up before devoting the time to reviewing it...
My main reasons in initially purchasing this particular rack were (1) price and (2) fit for my vehicle. I own a Jeep Wrangler with an oversized wide tire mounted to the back. This bike rack extends out far enough to comfortably fit onto my Jeep with enough clearance between my bike and the spare tire. I was also in the price range that I was looking for, which was a big plus.
I ride mainly on the weekends and travel between 15 - 30 miles for most tracks I go to. This is a mixture of city, country and even interstate driving. The SportRack has held up very well through it all. I am extremely happy with my purchase and would suggest it to be on anyone's prospective buy list. I would have given it 5 stars except for the fact that the fit for the 2 inch hitch adapter could be better. There is a little more movement of the rack due to the hitch fit than I would like. I still feel it is sturdy and I trust it to hold my bike, plus sometimes another, with no real concern or worry. Most of the extra movement comes from driving over speed bumps, uneven surfaces, etc... at slow speeds. I do utilize a bungee cord through my spare and around the rack for extra support.
So, the 'goods': Price, fit, durability, ease of use and adjustability for different sized bikes. Lastly, I like the screw on bolt for the hitch. It adds an extra level of security as far as possible theft and you can purchase a small lock to attach to it, if you want... The 'bads': 2" hitch attachment fits somewhat loosely in my receiver. The 'ugly': Nothing really. There are two bolts that attach the actual rack to the hitch portion and you need to LocTite them before use. They will loosen over time and I could see them loosening to the point of the rack coming apart. I almost learned that the hard way...

good value, secure and adjustable, March 24, 2012
By David

This rack works exactly as described. Assembly and setup is painless, had it mounted to my car in about half an hour.
Bike security is my number one priority, and I am confident my bikes will not fall from this rack. The velcro straps on the wheels and frame hook lock the bike into place with no movement at all. The threaded pin prevents wiggling in the hitch receiver and is very tight.
I like how easy it is to adjust for different bikes. Simply loosen knobs, slide the wheel holders/frame hook, and tighten. It is very accommodating for mountain bike tires (mine are 2.1" with room to spare). When not in use, the arms fold up and are locked into place with pins. The vertical bar also folds out for easy trunk access.

SportRack, January 21, 2012
By Steve (OK, US)

Less bike worries behind my car than two previous bike racks (strap-hook and hang rack, hitch and hang rack). I am very happy with the platform system. No bungee cords, no bike movement period, quick clean loading.
Beware you are not buying this rack for theft security; there is no locking ability to this rack. I will buy a cable lock to secure the wheels and bikes to the vehicle. I will also be taking the hooks and tire holders off while running around town; they are too quick and easy enough to remove.
A semi-permanent attachment is also a consideration for closing your garage door and length of vehicle. The assembled rack extended 30 inches from hitch pin out. The rack is a semi-permanent attachment to your hitch via the hitch bolt and the two bolts on its 15 inch hitch neck. I am considering cutting the neck and fitting square tubing over it, drilling holes and using a few quick-release pins. This would leave a small amount of the neck in my hitch and allow me to quickly store 95% of the rack in my vehicle when no bikes are on it. My 2006 Mini's hitch is buried behind the bumper and too difficult to reach for the bolting and unbolting.
The ability to lock your bike to the rack or lock the components of this rack would rate 5 stars.

Sportrack a good buy, January 5, 2012

I purchased this bike rack to replace an Allen rack. I have a woman's bike and do not like to use the bracket (as it can scratch the bike) you have to have to "hang" the bike on the other type rack. This platform rack was easy to install and easy to use. Not as fancy as the Thule T2, but very workable.

Overall the rack is really nice. The only downside is I seemed to have torn a strap while trying to secure the wheels to the rack.

3 years and still works great, December 5, 2011
By sweeper154

I own this and the Xport 4 bike version of this rack and have had both for about 3 years. Both work great. I've used this rack with both a 1 1/4" and 2" hitch. The 2" requires the plastic adapter and I've seen some bad reviews with that. I've not had any problems with it but have found that you need to insert the adapter opposite to the side that you insert the threaded hitch pin (this allows the metal rack to tighten to the metal hitch). As long as you insert the pin from the correct side, it's very solid. However, if you insert the threaded pin on the same side as the plastic adapter, you can't tighten it properly because it's metal on plastic and it shakes horribly.
I carry a couple XC mountain bikes (just about every weekend) on short drives to the trailhead. I've also taken a couple long trips where I've driven 3+ hours with this and felt very comfortable with rack.
After 3 years, it still does the job and I've been very happy with this rack.

Almost perfect, November 13, 2011

I bought this bike rack because of the reviews and it was a good purchase. Out of the box without the instructions it was a piece of cake to assemble and align the wheel supports and install the bikes to where they would ride well down the road. Here was the problem when I put up the conter post the pn would not go through all the way so I had to take the bike rack out of the receiver and find out why. The holes on one side did not line up and were off maybe a 1/16 of an inch but that stopped the pin from going through to lock the center post in position. Not a problem though I took the pon and put it in the drill sizer and found the drill I needed to take care of the problem and we were ready to roll down the road. I still have to give this bike rack a 5 because the ease it takes to assemble, the way it supports the bikes while on the rack and the sturdyness it provides. Yes some will say it is a hasel to use the bolt to install the bike rack but that is what makes this bike rack & your bikes won't be shifting as you are driving down the road at posted speed limits.
Pros: ease of installation and adjustments to fit the bikes & I would recommended this to my friends.
Con: Had to drill out one hole to make the pin go through, this may not happen to yours but there is that possibility.

No complaints about this one, November 11, 2011

This rack I have used twice to carry two adult bikes camping. It mounted in the trailer hitch on the back of our Taurus X. It is very lightweight, but easily rugged enough to carry the bikes. The unit folds up easily for storage, and will bend out of the way if you need to open your tailgate. Overall I am very happy with my purchase.

Excellent bike rack. Easy to assemble, quick to load bicycles on and off and holds bikes securely. I have recumbent bikes (BikeEs) and they cannot be loaded on a regular bike rack because of the way they are made. I bought this bike rack hoping it would work with the recumbents. It solved my problem and holds my recumbent bikes very securely.
Note: you must remove the seats from the recumbent bikes and I don't think this rack will work with long wheelbase recumbents.

Sportrack 2EZ platform style bike carrier, September 16, 2011
By Tim & Cheryl Haas
|
|
Just purchased the Sportrack 2EZ platform style bike rack/carrier.
We can honestly say this was one of the best purchases that we have made. We purchased ours from Amazon.com & not only got a great price, but free shipping as well. The Sportrack 2EZ seems to be a great quality product! Very well built! And loading & unloading our bikes could'nt be any easier. It holds our bikes tight & secure, and with the additional purchase of the Sportrack bike cable lock, it gives us the extra security that our bikes are locked safely to the rack when left un-attended! I particularly like the way the "cable lock" is mounted to the rack, it stays with the rack, so its right there when you need it! We would definately recommend the Sportrack 2EZ or 4EZ to anyone looking to purchase a platform style bike rack. Again: Not only is this a very well built rack, and easy to load & unload bikes, but its going to save you alot of money over some of its competitors racks (without sacraficing quality)! We definately rate this rack at 5-stars *****
PS: We are so happy with the 2EZ, that we've already discussed purchasing the Sportrack 4EZ (next spring), so we can take our son & my mother along with us on trips next year!
Hope this helps!
Tim & Cheryl Haas

Bike Carrier, September 14, 2011
By R.C.Rummel (Spring Grove, IL USA)

Fantastic item, much better than the carrier it replaced. I didn't like the plastic hitch adapter (most carriers seem to use this system) because it moves when I mount the carrier. Solved the problem by drilling a small hole through the adapter and the metal part of the hitch, and used a self-tapping sheet metal screw to attach them together. Problem solved. Countersunk the screw in the plastic so it would slide in without catching in the receiver. I also put the hole in the bottom so any stress on the carrier wouldn't break it as could happen if the hole was on the top. All in all, I'm very satisfied.

Arrived a day early. We thought the hardware was missing, however, they had installed them before they shipped. All we had to do was put a few parts together. Looks great and seems sturdy. We tried 2 different sized bikes and they both fit securely.

Best of Breed, July 20, 2011
By Seifree Muscow

This is my third platform hitch and it is the best of the bunch and cost me less than previous platform bike racks. If I were to design a hitch I would make several changes which would include a key or combo locking device for the hold down bars and a replaceable bungie system for additional support/security, but as so many have said, it a better devise than the Swagman, Thule, and others. There maybe better devices available, but not for the money.

Very easy to put together, nicely built, good quality. The adapter for the hitch was not substantial. I purchased an adapter from Uhaul which was not expensive and works fine. Easy to get bikes on and off. I love it

Decent rack for female bikes, July 4, 2011
By Kevin
|
|
Bought this rack to mount one female bike on the back of a VW Eos. Packaging was excellent, assembly was a breeze. I only used the outside mounts. After making the adjustments for the bike she was using it fits just fine. There is some wobble while the bike is strapped in but it definitely isn't coming out of the stirrups. With the hitch and bike attached all you have to do is take the vertical locking pin out and tilt the bike back a couple inches and the trunk had enough room to swing back and allow the top to fold down or up.
One thing I did not read about, I bought this for a 1-1/4" hitch it does not allow for a typical pin and clip attachment to the car's hitch. You must use a threaded bolt with washer and clip. I'm sure it does wonders for rattling and quick theft but it sure has been a pain every time. It also came with the adaptor for more common 2" hitches.

Nice Rack!, June 17, 2011
By Chris (Charleston, SC)
|

Just received it - put it together fairly quickly, but as a few noted, be sure to remove the small plugs at the top of the rail before you slide the bike holders over the rail. The holders won't slide over the top rail without removing them! I'm using it without the 2' adapter, so all seems nicely designed and easy to use. My hitch is a Draw Tite 1-1/4, class 1, and the rack sides in easily. I also purchased the SportRack A30901LHP Locking Hitch Pin and that seems to work well. Much better than a "hanging" rack or trunk mount rack.

Rigid Rack, April 7, 2010
By boypig (Southern California)

Great rack. Has almost everything you could want for half the price you expect. Well designed and easy to use. One issue: the main rack is held on with two bolts. So stealing your bikes only takes a wrench. I welded the rack to the mount tube and now I just have to lock the hitch to the rack. Nice design overall!!

Great Rack, September 24, 2009
By Gary Brooks
|
|
Bikes sit solidly in the rack supported by the wheels instead of hanging from a single point of contact on the frame. Very easy assembly (only needed a small adjustable wrench). I was a little concerned about lock pins staying in place during travel but have had no problems to date. The pins could be better wired to the rack (stronger wire used). I have cut one of the wires when it got pinched in the pivot point raising the tire holders in the vertical position. The ability to lower or lay down the rack is extremely useful. I highly recommend.

missing parts, May 11, 2012
By RAO
|

A well thought out device which has numerous convenient features. It is adequately strong and yet light enough to handle easily. It folds easily into a small enough package to enable easy storage. I have not actually used the device as it was missing a primary knob and bolt to retain a frame component. I called the manufacture in Canada and was told a knob and bolt would ship that day; which was two weeks ago! Can't wait to try it!

pretty good for the price, May 4, 2012
By John
|

Works very well for one or two bikes. I thought it would have a ratchet clamp for the top holders but it has screw tighteners that are a little fussy. I saw the complaints of the plastic breaking in the hitch adapter, but wasn't worried as I have the 1.25 inch hitch. But there are plastic spacers in each of the screw tighteners that I'm worried about breaking. No breakage yet so hope the stress can be handled by the plastic spacers. Also, the vertical bar was installed backward so the pin could not be installed. I just turned it around by unbolting it. Otherwise well built and should last.

Very Upset :-( but content with customer service to resolve issue., May 2, 2012
By augustine thomas forsberg (VISTA, CA, US)

Excited to receive package, then after opening it I automatically knew......there were missing pieces! The key mounting hardware was not included in the box. Knobs x2, candy cane brackets x2, all mounting pins and washers, and threaded hitch pin with clip. This is really poor quality control. The box it came in was substandard in terms of wrapping ( like to save money on tape they used 1 piece across and 2 over) ESP since it is a weighty package. I can only hope the return/exchange ordeal is smooth. It's late here on the west coast and I chose to connect with Amazon via messaging. The rep was direct and offered the correct solution. The exchange will be another week of waiting but they are absorbing the return shipping cost. I am changing my rating based only on custom service and hope everything is smooth.

Lost bike on first trip, April 30, 2012
By sonnydog
|
|
I bought a SportRack model A30901 2EZ and installed it on my motorhome. On my first trip to Moab, Utah, while driving down the interstate,I hit a couple of pretty good bumps in the road. After the second bump, I looked in the rear view mirror and saw my bike flipping down the highway. After picking up what was left of my bike, I found that the velcro straps that hold the wheels in the hoops, had both broken and that the hold-down bar had slid up. The hold-down was still so tight that I had to loosen it to lower it to hold what was left of my bike in the rack. The main construction of the rack is very good but the straps and the hold-down are poor. I will install much better staps and improve the hold-down. If the straps had not broken, the hold-down would have most likely held.

Easy to use bike carrier, March 14, 2012
By delsolcruz
|
|
I've only used the bike carrier once, and love it! The main reason I bought this carrier is because I bought a new car and I didn't want to take any chances of my current trunk bike carrier scratching the car paint. I also bought the bike carrier because my parents have the same bike rack and they like theirs. It's almost effortless to attach the bike to the carrier...it takes no time at all. I store the carrier in my basement and have no difficulties moving it upstairs and outside. I'm excited for the biking season to begin so I can use it more often. By boyfriend assembled the carrier and didn't have any problems following the directions.
