5.0 out of 5 stars.  Yay cage!, October 5, 2008
By GTwilley (Philadelphia, PA)
I put two of these on my Trek 850 and haven't been disappointed. They've been great to hold everything from water bottles to dunkin' donuts coffee cups (note, I recently moved to the NE and am not particularly fond of DD coffee, but everyone here goes nuts for it. To be honest, I don't even enjoy holding their cups, which is why I'm so happy that my bike doesn't mind it). Of the three different water bottles I've placed in these cages all have fit very snugly - I've no fear that any of them will pop out when I'm riding over gravel, potholes, or bumps in the road.

They're attractive, light weight, and economical. If you need a replacement, then buy these sucka's for your gnarly ride.

Take note, however, if your bike doesn't already have the hardware for a bottle cage, you'll have to purchase that too (and, in all likelihood, drill holes into your frame) as these sweet babies don't come with any bolts.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Decent Cage, February 1, 2009
By Allen (San Francisco, CA)
This cage looks nice but isn't as useful as some others. If you try using smaller bottles, the bottles will just slip out through the bottom. Because the platform part where the bottle sits is just too small of an area. Any of the small evian, kirklands, arrowhead water bottles will slip out after a few bumps.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  I haven't lost my water yet, July 9, 2009
By Living life and loving it! (Somewhere in a land far, far away..)
When I originally bought this cage I was hoping that it would fit my CamelBak Podium 21-Ounce Bottle, but unfortunately the bottle was a bit too wide. I still use my CamelBak daily, but just not while riding. Instead I've resorted to just refilling a standard pop top water bottle. The cage was easy and quick to install and holds my water bottle securely. I'm sure you could spend more, but when this works just fine, why would you? And maybe it's just because I'm new to biking, but it being advertised as having a "Bombproof design" kinda scares me and makes me feel good all at the same time?

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Planet Bike Water Bottle Cage - Easily Broken, be careful, April 2, 2008
By Mattvrick (San Diego, CA.)
I've owned 3 of these cages and 2 of them have broken. I still give it a decent rating because it holds my bottles securely, however, I've broken them when I tried to squeeze the metal tighter. They are cheap cages though and I bet if I was a little more careful I wouldn't break them...I just hate to lose bottles or have them launch on me.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Holds a bottle in place, June 7, 2009
By T. Kannady (midwest)
Holds my Stainless steel bottles in place with out problems. The problems come in when I don't have a bottle in it and my left pant leg snags it. I like it though. I ride over bumpy bike paths half of the time and my bottles (27oz kleen kanteen and 27oz h2go bottles) never fall out.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice Design, January 31, 2007
By Waterlee (New Jersey)
Hey, it's a water bottle cage, so what's there to elaborate on? That being said, it's a cool aluminum design that looks great on my bike. This a little bit of money that is well spent. Much better value than those new-fangled carbon fiber cages.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Poor build quality, September 29, 2010
By G. Zigler (Phoenix)
I purchased and installed three of these for my touring bike. The cage that I most frequently pull my water bottle from broke at the weld after about 3000 miles on my bike. Not bad? We have four "plain Jane" no-name cages on our tandem with 13K miles that are all still going strong. I emailed pictures to Planet Bike about the broken weld and they sent me a replacement, no questions asked (NICE customer service!).

HOWEVER, the replacement cage only lasted 3 months before the weld on that broke at the same spot as the first.

The Planet Bike SuperFlash is an incredibly bright taillight (drivers have said it looks like an emergency vehicle light); the Planet Bike fenders are perfect on our tandem; their customer service is painless, but in my experience, this cage doesn't have the metal - where it needs to be.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Works well, September 16, 2008
By Techie Guy (Warminster, PA)
This works very well on a road bike. It's light and holds a normal sized bottle of water in place in all but the bumpiest of conditions.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Pretty to look at, July 16, 2010
By E. Cimino (Hagerstown, MD USA)
I don't want to blast this thing, but it does have some flaws which might not be readily apparent. I absolutely loved the look of this thing on my bike, but ended up replacing it with a more conventional cage for two reasons.

One, is that smaller diameter bottles tend to fly out of the thing, and the cage's two "buttons" hit each other at a certain point when you try to bend it to accommodate this. People who ride gently, or ride on only the smoothest surfaces may never experience this. As for me, I'm tired of having to stop and go chasing my water bottle.

The second thing is of greater importance. The reason I had been using landfill-clogging PETE water bottles in the first place, is that my Green Canteen metal bottle was too long to fit. The high positioning of the retaining buttons on this style of cage make it more difficult to fit longer water bottles, because of clearance with the bike's frame. In other words, the design of this cage more severely limits the angle from which you can insert the bottle.

A conventional cage like the Planet Bike 6.2 mm Welded Aluminum Bicycle Water Bottle Cage, which I bought as a replacement, accepts taller bottles due to the fact it extends from the bottom of the cage as opposed to the top. Especially those with smaller bike frame sizes might want to consider this.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Susceptible to bending, July 6, 2010
By Igor
The bottle holder worked well enough. However, the split design makes it susceptible to snagging on clothing and bending out of shape. Once it is bent, it is impossible to bend back without cracking the aluminum. If you only ride your bike wearing shorts, it's probably OK; otherwise, stick to the traditional shape.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  This Cage + 1L Smartwater = Perfect, June 22, 2009
By QN
My Trek 7.3 FX 17.5" only allows one water bottle cage and I soon realized that a 24oz Polar bottle wasn't enough hydration. So I bought this cage and a 1L/33oz Smartwater bottle to go along with it. I was worry that without the indentation most cages have to hold bottles in place that my water bottle would fall out. This cage holds the bottle very tight. A little tighter than I would prefer, but that's better than having it loose.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  bottle cage, November 24, 2009
By Victor Garcia
This cage was ok. It fit nicely on my bike, but my stainless steel water bottle didn't fit in it. I know my bottle wasn't made for bikes so I can't complain too much. I had to bend it very carefully to fit. It did fit, and it works. Just be careful.

I would recommend buying this item at a store, not online.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Little Loose, but good, October 12, 2009
By T. Gillen (Boston, MA)
This fits a smartwater bottle perfectly, anything skinnier will be a little loose. The bottom could be a little bigger to provide more stability, but overall I haven't had a single problem with it, maybe mountain bike people would with all that bouncin around though.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  good and Lightweight, February 27, 2010
By A. BRAVO
Its not carbon, but its not heavy at all, and it holds considerably big water bottles not the 1.5 liter ones but Gatorade bottles etc. at least I could fit a powerade bottle with no problem.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Alright, February 24, 2010
By Brian (NY, USA)
It holds the small bottles well. But when the bottles get big, for example, a 1 liter water bottle, it doesn't fit.

This cage is ideal for smaller water bottles.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Great cages, while they lasted..., November 7, 2011
By C. Macaluso (New Orleans, LA)
I purchased two of these cages for my father's bike. He used them and loved them since he got them, but during a ride (we were together) just 7 months later, one of his cages came apart at the mounting bracket welds. He was left with a bottle and half of the cage in his hand. The mounting bracket was still mounted to the bike. We pitched the cage and he put the bottle in his back jersey pocket for the rest of the 50 miles, but what a bummer this was. This cage saw light use, too, as he rides a couple of times a week. These cages didn't even get as much use as some on my bike would. Moral of the story, for $7 bucks a piece, buy something that is going to last instead of this. You can find full carbon bottle cages on ebay for 20-25 shipped for the pair and they will last a lot longer than these will.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Broke after third ride., October 25, 2011
By K
The water bottle cage broke after three short mountain bike trips. I didn't run in to anything or stress it in any way and it just fell off while riding a straight line. I don't think it's meant for the turbulence of mountain biking.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Aesthetics are nice...functionality...not so great, August 14, 2011
By JemGirl
We purchased four of these because of the cool looking design. They do look nice on your bike. However; we had to send back one because the plastic button broke during shipping. We thought that was a fluke, but now I think they are just a poorly designed. Of the four bottle cages we ended up with, only two of them survived over a year. The other two split down the center. Not only are the plastic buttons fragile, but the welding seems to be hit and miss.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Holds well, owned 2, both have broken though, June 12, 2011
By A. E. Cramer (Upstate, NY)
I bought 1 of these cages. It held the water bottle nicely...but after a year, the soft aluminum broke right on the weld. Planet Bike has good customer service though and replaced the broken cage because they agreed that it shouldn't break on the weld. BUT...the replacement cage broke in the same place (on the weld) after about the same amount of time (~1 year). I wouldn't buy these again...but I would like to commend Planet Bike on their customer service.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  I like it, August 10, 2008
By Khanh C. Nguyen
This is better than the cage that came with my new bike. It looks better and is more flexible. I have no problem inserting the bottle back into the cage because the cage is flexible and less stiff than my previous one. I like it for what I paid.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Pretty fragile, but it works, March 5, 2010
By T. Fisher
This is a good, functional water bottle holder. It is lightweight and practical. But the decorative plastic pieces are pretty darn fragile. They broke within a couple of weeks on my bike, and I don't abuse my bike or go offroad. I must have hit or bumped it against something, but I can't imagine what. It wasn't a crash or anything, probably just while parked at a city bike rack. A bit of a disappointment, but it works.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Looks Great and Does the Job, May 23, 2012
By D. Applebee (Macon, GA United States)
I bought these to replace some other more plain looking cages. The style is nice. They seem to be fairly sturdy. They look great on my bike. My bottles were very tight initially, but I just pulled open the cages a bit and now they fit perfectly. My bottles do not bounce or shift in the cages while I am riding.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Stylish, September 22, 2011

This waterbottle cage does not only have style, but it is also good tough material. The Only downside is that the bottles are kind of hard to pull out if you have a normal bottle size, good for small bottles.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Split Top is Design Flaw, June 5, 2011
By Nimbin (New York)
The cage looked nice, which Is the reason I purchased it, but the split top makes it susceptible to bending and eventual breakage. I found that if I hadn't tied my pant legs down that they would occasionally catch on the cage, and this ended up breaking it as the metal is really not that strong. I will be going a simpler design for a replacement.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Buttons gone, November 16, 2010
By Bicycle Bob
Bought four of these for our new tandem. One was delivered without buttons. One had a broken (split in two) button. The other two cages were ok but I don't have a matched set. After several rides the two cages seem to work ok but some bending was necessary for a good bottle fit. Black glossy finish was acceptable on all four cages.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Not bad for a water bottle cage, August 14, 2010
By Edward B (California)
The water bottle cage seriously left me intrigued on how it's designed. No matter how bumpy the road was the bottle wouldn't fall out. There's only a small lip to support the bottom of the bottle and looks as if the bottle can fall out the bottom if it were angled at a certain degree... which it will... only by a small amount of your man/ woman strength. Definitely would recommend the product for its price, design, and usefulness.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Does not hold 12 oz bottles real well, August 6, 2010
By Dario
This bottle cage is in-expensive and durable but versatile it is NOT. I attempted to ride with a 12 oz bottle (various name brand ones you buy at the store), but it does not grip it, so with a small bump, the bottle falls out from the bottom. I then switched to a larger 20 oz refillable bottle, and now it has a tight fit and has not fallen out yet. And doesn't look like it will fall out ever. I guess you can call this a "green" bottle cage cuz it has now forced me to forget using store bought bottled water!
