  • Transports up to 2 bikes
  • Universal Mount - can put it on a 45 degree tilt to center your bikes when the spare tire is to one side
  • It will work on those with the spare tire centered to the back of the vehicle
Product Description:
Designed for use on vehicles with a rear mounted spare tire. Transports up to 2 bikes. Locking knob standard equipment. Cradles accommodate up to a 2? frame tube. Kraton cradle wraps help to provide a secure, scratch-free ride for your bike.
Designed for use on vehicles with a rear spare tire carrier, the XP 2-Bike Tire Mount Rack from Swagman attaches securely to your center or side tire mount with a dual retention system. The bike rack incorporates the same rotating cradle design to level the bikes for increased ground clearance as other Swagman XP racks and comes with a locking knob for added security. Kraton wraps in the cradle provide a scratch-free ride for the bikes and increased grip. The cradles can accommodate up to a 2-inch frame tube and the rack offers a carry capacity of up to 35 pounds per bike. To better position the bikes to the center of the vehicle, the rack can be mounted on center mount spare tires or on side mounted spare tires. The XP Spare Tire Mount Rack fits all applications with the exception of the Toyota Rav4 2006/2007. An additional backing plate (sold separately) is required for use with the Toyota Rav4.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  The end result is good, April 20, 2008
By Book Lover XYZ
Our experience with this bike rack is rather bumpy. But with patience and persistence from Swagman and from eager customers (us) the end result is very good.

We have a Toyota Rav4 2007 and had hard time to find a spare tire mounted bike rack. As far as I know, only Swagman has made special replacement back plate to fit our car and offered it for free when we purchased a Swagman XP 2 Bike Tire Mount from any vendor. We ended up buying from Bike Nashbar via Amazon. When the bike rack (from Bike Nashbar) and the replacement back plate (from Swagman) arrived we found the rack did not have firm contact points on the spare tire as the instructions advised. We contacted Swagman again and they immediately sent two shims that solved the problem. Now we have probably the first working tire mounted bike rack on a Toyota Rav4 2007 in the United States and are very happy. I thank Swagman, especially its knowledgeable and patient contact person, for helping us though.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  NOT what i expected!, July 6, 2008
By Marv (Reno, NV USA)
You would think this would fit oversized tires, especially since it's a spare tire mount, but it doesn't nor does it have an extension plate that I can/could find. The plate also fits strangly on to my spare, at a strange angle that give the mount about 20-30 degrees of swival. you'd think it should of been a bit more semetrically applicable for stability. Since I wansn't able to mount it I didn't find out if it would be stable or not but it looked as if with enough jolting (4x4) it would swival to the left and off center the rack. if there were an extension plat I'd give it a 3-star.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Built superior to other racks- excellent, February 2, 2011
By j garr (Ohio, USA)
I researched for several months online for a quality rack for our Honda CRV which has the non-centered, rear tire mount. With regular tire mounts, the bike wheels stick out way too much from the car. Other side tire mounts I could find were flimsy. I found the Swagman after searching thru bicycling forums. Is VERY sturdy and well built. Box contained wrong wheel adaptor, so I called the company, got a human to talk to and they sent out replacement right away. Happy with customer service attitude. Rack holds bikes very firmly -- no noise, no rattles. I put them on and never need to look at them while driving to see if OK, the rack has never failed and I've used it for over a year and over 30 times. Recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  It works, but..., September 5, 2010
By Matthew M. Elfstrom
I had a swagman since 2001. This rack carried 3 bikes. The bolt that held the rack onto my spare tire on my Jeep Wrangler snapped. The Swagman people said they didn't have this bolt to replace it. I order this rack. Message on Amazon says "Can't deliver to Alaska". Fine. Looked like a piece of junk anyway. It shows up two weeks later on my doorstep. Cool. I didn't find a better option anyway. So this rack. Good things: Sturdy, holds two bikes solidly. New and doesn't sway around while I drive like the other one did. Bad things: With the protective rubber padding pad thingys attached, my bike doesn't fit. So, I've had to take the pad out and put a sock in place of it. Not ideal. Other bad thing, the bolt used to hold this one on WAS IN FACT the same bolt that broke from my other one. So, this rack is laying in my shed with my old rack attached with the new bolt. 150$ for the new bolt. I'm happy I got the new rack. Kind of ripped off I wasn't able to order the bolt only.

If it's your first spare tire rack, then it is a fine rack. Easy to load bikes, and if your frame is too big, you can make adjustments (wrap a sock around the frame to protect it). Buy it. Unfortunately, it's the best bet for a spare tire rack. I have friends with Thule and Hollywood racks and they are total crap.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Works perfectly for Honda CRV, June 7, 2011
By wellington
With the off-center spare tire on the Honda CRV, the Swagman bike rack works exceptionally well. It mounts and rotates toward the center of the vehicle allowing bikes to be better centered. The build of the rack seems quite good. Would highly recommend it for CRV owners.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great product, great company, October 18, 2010
By D. Carroll
I purchased this rack over two years ago for my 2006 Suzuki Grand Vitara in preparation for a 6 week long roadtrip across the US. The mounting bracket that came along with it did not fit on my vehicle, but the representatives I spoke to at Swagman were kind enough to send out a compatible bracket free of charge. The bike rack has held up impressively. I have no taken it off the vehicle since I installed it, and it still looks/works great.

Once again, great product/great company.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Check your bike first, May 17, 2011
By Jarod
I just received my swagman xp 2 in the mail today, 5 days after i ordered it and shipped to APO, that is fast shipping.

It fit my 1996 RAV4 excellently, was very easy to install and seems very sturdy.

I was not able to put a bike on and drive around to test it out because neither of my bikes will fit on this rack. I have posted a link below to give you an example of the wrong kind of bike for this rack. You will need, and I'm guessing here, about a 6x6x6 triangle of space in the center of the bike to get it onto this rack.

This bike will not fit Mongoose Maxim Dual-Suspension Mountain Bike (26-Inch Wheels)

I have this bike on the way and believe it should fit, i will post as soon as i know for sure. GMC Topkick Dual-Suspension Mountain Bike

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Well engineered, fits my suzuki samurai well, May 7, 2012
By person
I really like the fact that I can lock the rack to the tire. Well engineered, well constructed, mounted easily.

Reason for 4 stars:
1) instructions say is can be mounted at 45 degree angle to center bike behind vehicle when tire is offset - it did not fit 5-hole/5.5 inch mounts at 45 degrees offset - although it fits perfectly vertically.
2) only one of the bike cradles had a locking handle - the other one did not have a lock. I suppose it is easy to lock the bikes together (or just lock them to the rack which is locked to the tire).

One note - the end sticks out behind the car at eye level - best to get some bright sticker to avoid headaches...

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Doesn't fit, October 14, 2011
By Leslie Schilling (Memphis, TN United States)
Does not fit a 2008 Rav4, although the instructions make it seem like Blazers and Jimmys are the only ones it does not fit without modification. Why not list the vehicles that it does not fit?
