5.0 out of 5 stars.  Easiest and cheapest way to restore drivetrain performance, December 12, 2011
By Jeffrey L (Bay Area, CA)
Yet another well-made Shimano product. I had 3,000 miles on my drivetrain and was starting to experience stiff links. The standard loosing techniques didn't work so it was time for the chain to go. The new Shimano chain worked like a charm, restoring drivetrain performance and general shifting smoothness.

Be sure to get the chain length right. Zinn and various online videos offer instructions and helpful tips. Also, a chain tool is necessary to complete the job.

Overall, a good value for a critical component of bicycle performance.

I ride to work (14 miles round trip) five days a week and this is the chain I use. It has never failed me.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Smooth, Problem Free Chain, September 16, 2011
By Scott Pope (Chicago, IL)
As someone who has had multiple dangerous chain failures in the past, I don't want to skimp on this part of my bicycle. So when my last chain became damaged due to broken teeth on the rear casette, I decided to invest in the Shimano Ultegra 9-Speed chain. It appears to be the best chain I have yet used. While it has only been a few months since my purchase, I have been quite pleased its smooth drive and shifting operation. There appear to be no flaws in its design or manufacture. For comparison, the chain is approximately 0.5 mm narrower than my eight speed chain (6.2 mm instead of 6.7mm) it replaced. The true test will come after a few years in inclement weather. Meanwhile, I recommend this product.

Pros
Smooth operation

Cons
Expensive

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Good chain, set up for my build, July 23, 2011
By J.Gary (Rock Hill, SC)
This chain does not have a quick release link and comes strink wrapped to a piece of cardboard. You will need a chain break tool to push the pin in. I have no complaints with this chain, it was perfect for my build. I removed no links and it seemed to be exact length I needed. I built a 3x9 rigid bike with standard 3x9 Shimano gearing if that helps.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  A genuine fix-all compromise., May 22, 2012
By William B
I bought a 14 speed bicyle--because that is what I wanted--I just ride city and beach bike trails, so I have no need for 30 speed drivetrains. I also installed an FSA N10, 53/39 chainring set along with a Campagnola Record front derailer. The 6-7-8 speed chain width was 7.4 cm--too wide for front chainring. 10 speed chain was only 6.1 cm --too narrow for cassette. This chain is 6.6 cm. It is also a Hyperglide chain and so was my seven speed cassette. This chain was the perfect choice to mate all of the parts together. No grind on the chainrings. Smooth shifting by the Campagnola, and no hangup or skipping on the cassette. Sounds like an abortion? It works so much better than the installed Shimano matched set and gives me that "Oh yeah!" buzz when I rotate through the gears.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Grea chain, May 20, 2012
By crazyrider
We rebuilt a Trek 5500 to give it a compact drivetrain and 12-27 cassette on an older 9 speed set-up. This chain was a perfect match and was easy to cut and connect.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  10,000+ miles !!!!, December 30, 2011
By BobsHere (Orinda, US, Canada)
I have a 1999 Team Fuji and I'm replacing the chain for the first time @ over 10,000 miles. I have a also have a pro built Scandium Fuji Team and the HG-93 has gone nearly 12,000 miles on that one. Additionally, I have a Trek carbon road bike where the chain has also gone nearly 12,000 miles !!!! I don't ride in the rain and I PRO GOLD lube/wipe my chains on the bike every 250-500 miles. I expected to be getting ~1,500 miles on these chains so I have been astounded at how long they've gone. I use a Park Chain checker and I could still push these bikes a bit more. But I'm off to put on new HG-93's on each of these three bikes. I am totally impressed by these chains. I've never broken one. I won't be
"upgrading" to 10 speed, 11, or any other thinner chains....

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Got wood?, December 18, 2011
By Rob S.
OK. I NEEDED wood! I came up with a great way to get wood, but the first time I tried...I broke a chain, and dang-near broke my neck.

So...off to Ye Olde Amazone Bike Shoppe to get a good chain (and Cassette, just in case).

Since I put this XT chain on the He-Beast of a bike...I've had no problems getting wood (and getting home after I GOT the wood!)
