5.0 out of 5 stars.  Best trunk mount bike rack you'll find, August 4, 2009
By SKondris (Riverton, UT United States)
They all should be made like this. I've had two of these bike racks (ended up giving the first one to a friend, then later bought another one). They ARE virtually indestructible compared to other bike racks. This one has NO plastic parts other than the nice black sleeves to protect your bike and car from getting scratched. It's based on an extremely simple and therefore extremely strong design. I've had my latest one for over 10 years, and not a single thing has gone wrong, nor worn out, nor cracked, nor twisted, or anything.

I've been a serious biker for over 12 years and this rack has been through everything: mud, rain, snow, crazy driving w/ fast turns, and I've never had a problem.

No, it won't fit perfectly on literally every car out there, but I haven't found one yet that it won't work on. I've used it on a honda civic (hatchback), an accord, a honda odyssey minivan, a camry, a dodge dynasty, and lots of others and it's worked great on them all.

I can't say enough great things about them. They can be hard to find nowadays, it seems, but are well worth the money, especially since they're one of the cheaper racks you can get, but work way better than the expensive trunk mounts you'll find.

I used to work at a bike shop, so I've had roof mounts and tried out LOTS of different trunk mount racks. This one is by far the best you'll find as far as trunk mount racks go.

I can't say enough good things about this rack.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  I love this, August 9, 2007
By NH (PA)
I got this because my 13-years-old son bikes a lot and sometimes I have to pick him and his bike up from wherever or whenever he gets stuck.(bad weather, after dark from his friend's house, etc) I used to simply loaded his bike in cargo area of my minivan. But after switching to Corolla, I needed a different way to transport the bike. So I did some research and came across with this rack. After reading positive reviews I've decided to give it a try and I'm glad I did.
Very first time I used it I had to ask my mechanically competent daughter to help me out since I'm a total klutz. But after that I just attach/detach it to and from my car without any problem.( Bottom latches are bit trickier for me but it's not that a big deal-- remember, I'm a total klutz--probably other people won't find it difficult) One person can load a bike on the wrack(I can do it if I have to.) but since the bike needs to be lifted up off the ground( and since I'm short, 5'1"), I ask my son to lift it up and I maneuver it into place.
The straps that latches are attached are very long and they fliped and flapped all over the place when I drove. So I folded and tied the extra into a knot and it worked. Adjusting length of straps when attaching the wrack to my car is easy once you get used to it.I've used it 10+ times so far and has not left marks on my car. It works for my husband's Saturn, too. You might want to keep a flashlight in your car in case you have to set this up in dark. I once threw this in my car instead of attaching to it before I left to pick up my son after dark. although tail light would have been suffice to help me see what I was doing but having flashlight really made the job easier.
My husband who teaches technology education at local middle school likes this product, too. He says it's very well designed. He likes simple but effective stuff rather than fancy and complicated gadgets.

[...].

I hope my review helped you decide whether or not to get this product. In any case, happy biking!

3.0 out of 5 stars.  It doesn't fit all cars., July 25, 2008

The product description said that the rack would fit most cars. Unfortunely, it didn't fit my Honda Accord. I suggest checking the manufactur's specs before purchasing.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  It's a rack and it's for bikes..., March 13, 2010
By Jaredin Pon (United States)
From the beginning, I was impressed. From the quality of the actual item, to after I installed it (which was amazingly easy), to using it for the first, second, third, etc. time. My wife and I had grown tired of biking in the same side of town for a while and decided it was time to take it to the conveniently near foothills. So, logically, we needed a bike rack for our car. Here's how it stacks up:

PROS:

Easy to install
Tough build
Holds bikes securely with up to three straps
Padded to prevent scratches (to car or bike)

CONS:

None

BOTTOM LINE: I would recommend this product to anyone with a car (like a sedan or coupe style) who wants to be able to throw a couple bikes on the back and go for a ride somewhere distant. If you have a trailer hitch, you should stick with those styles as they are easier to setup and take down a lot easier.

I just leave mine on my car with the straps and slack secured inside the trunk so you'd have to cut the straps to steal it.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  No way 3 bikes, June 27, 2008
By H. Danzis (North Carolina)
I recently ordered this rack to load up 3 bikes so our family could ride some local trails. It arrived in the time frame given and it was in good shape. It set up well and seemed sturdy. However, there is no way on Earth that this rack would hold all 3 of our bikes. I'm not sure how they can advertise this item as being able to carry three bikes. It fit 2 just fine but anyone thinking about buying this for 3 I would recommend looking elsewhere. I am currently attempting to contact the vendor concerning it's return policy and will update this review with that information.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  my first bick rack, September 17, 2009

Very nice bicycle rack. Attaches easily to the rear door of my 98 dodge caravan. Carrying three full size bikes would be stretching the limits of this product. Especially a far distance. I carry it with me all the time just in case.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Hollywood, 3 bike rack, January 27, 2010
By Joni R. Franzini (san rafael, Ca)
this fit very securely on an 05 Toyota Camry. I actually got it to use as a rack for my mothers wheel chair which weighs 50 lbs.. who would think that no one has cornered that market to make/sell this as, a wheel chair rack. It works perfectly.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Works great...a good value!, September 9, 2009
By P. Schuler (Cleveland, OH USA)
The Hollywood F1B was exactly what I wanted to carry our bikes for a recent camping trip. Easy to fit and fasten, it worked perfectly on my 2010 Fusion (with no damage to the finish, either). With just a little readjusting, it fit 3 full-size bikes. Only one has a horizontal bar, so the other two bikes rested on their angled frame pieces. The lack of individual frame clips and straps was actually an advantage for this arrangement. The mounting straps do loosen somewhat as the padding compresses, so stopping to retighten the straps after the first half-hour or so (as someone else suggested) kept everything snug and secure. Took off one star because the rack comes with only two tie-downs even though it's a 3-bike rack. I purchased 3 pairs of 2-foot long bungee cords that worked wonderfully for holding the bike frames to the rack. The center strap that goes around all three bikes is a nice extra security feature. Once tightened down, those bikes weren't going anywhere until we took them off at the campground. A good value for the money!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  good deal, July 2, 2008
By Dan the Man (New Mexico)
Easy to use and affordable. Has only four straps to keep it hooked to the car, but that appears to be good enough and stays on well. (Apparently, the EU version has six straps and therefore may cause confusion if one just looks at the picture in the included manual.) In addition, it has one extra long strap to tie up all bikes from the top and two separate straps to tie tires together to prevent flapping. Good design and we are highly pleased.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  An ignorant review, February 2, 2010
By H. Ho
I only say ignorant because I never really gave this product a try on my car. But I HAVE installed it just to get accustomed to it. First, it uses nylon straps to secure onto the car. I have no real problems with this since it seems secure enough (although I have my reservations). However, if you baby your car like I do, the straps and the rubber coated hooks can rub against parts of your car. If you're not careful, this will mar parts of your car's paint or bend an edge here or there. Second, the hooks that come out do not have separate straps to hold down your bike. I am guessing you would have to just tie them down with rope or buy another strap/strapping product. What I liked about the product was that it was simple and easy to store. It folds up pretty flat and can stand up on its own (very convenient). You can also transfer it to another car if needed with little effort. In the end I opted out for a hitch and a hitch mount bike rack and gave away the Hollywood rack to the first neighbor that I saw had a bike. It was more expensive but it was faster to deal with and a hitch has much more usefulness, but that is another story.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Works Pretty Well, October 26, 2010
By Dave (Florida)
We use this on a 2005 Volvo XC90. Mine did not come with the side strap shown in the picture. It has the top and bottom straps. We use it to haul 2 Columbia Fenway Mountain Bikes. They aren't the lightest thing out there, but this seems to work pretty well so far.

When placed on an SUV, you will certainly need put one bike on, readjust/tighten up the straps, then place the second one on. The instructions mention this, but we know how that goes. So far a trip to the park has worked out fine. Speeds no higher than 50mph. Have not tried long distance or higher speeds yet. Seems like it will stay there.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good for the money :), March 23, 2011
By alicia
We purchased this bike rack because of the raving reviews for it and the fact that the only BAD reviews said that this didn't fit their car. My husband and I have a Subaru WRX, and despite the fact that the directions said it wouldn't fit his hatchback....we tried it anyway and didn't have a single problem making it fit and keeping it secure. We drove through rush hour traffic and through a few backroads and it stayed totally secure, not to mention it didn't scratch the paint or anything. It DID take a little creative maneuvering to get all of the ties secured around our two bikes (seeing as this doesn't have any added secures for the bikes besides the ties that dangle off the rack), but once we did the bikes didn't move around at all.

We both highly recommend this bike rack :)

Its a useful tool to carry your bikes. Seems to hold everything well. It is however very shaky. You are always concerned about the bikes falling off as you make turns (even though they don't). After 2 months, decided to keep it as a backup and get a more solid rack connected to the towing hitch.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Exactly as expected., August 20, 2009
By Jeremy E. Theobald (Marietta, OH United States)
I bought this rack to make a cross-country move with my wife and son. We are planning on camping during the trip and wanted to take the bikes along for ventures to the camp store and nearby vicinity. The mounting instructions are simple to follow and the rack is easily mounted with one person and only took about five minutes (first-time mounting; now that I've gotten the hang of it, will probably even take less time.)

All in all a great product and would highly recommend for ease of use.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Fine for inexpensive bikes on a car you aren't worried about, May 11, 2011
By S. Power (Detroit, Michigan, United States)
This rack does a fine job in safely transporting bikes as long as they are full sized and have a top tube. It will do 3 with no problems, as long as you stop frequently (about every 30 minutes or 30 miles) to tighten all the straps. The problem is that with only four straps the whole assembly does move on the car, causing cosmetic damage. The more expensive racks like the ones from Thule, Yakima, and Saris, attach more firmly to the car. A combination of rack design, additional straps, and straps that stretch less and stay tighter make the difference in this area. As for the bikes, there is nothing in this system to keep the bikes away from each other. Your paint will get chipped. Before you buy this, look at the more expensive racks and decide for yourself if your bikes and car warrant a better system. If not, the F1B is a good choice.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Sturdy little guy, June 9, 2008

I used this once so far. Took it out of the box and installation took less than 10 minutes including the reading of directions. I liked this a lot better than the previous rack I bought and returned to Dick's Sporting Goods. The bike never moved once placed on the rack. I am curious to see how it does over long distances, but I do not forsee any problems. I recommend this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  BEST BIKE RACK, August 23, 2011
By JeanneDrz
I recently started to ride my bike more and living in the city I love riding in the country and found it a hassle to load my bike inside my car. After reading reviews on 100s of bike rack I decided to go with the Hollywood Rack. It is everything that the reviews say. It is easy to attach to my SantaFe and held my bike extremely secure.
My bike has a smaller frame and the mount rack JUST fit my bike (which made it even more secure). I would highly recommend. I can hardly wait to see how it functioned with three bikes on it - but so far it holds my one like a charm!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Rock Solid, August 8, 2011
By ItalianCaliGirl
For a little background, I've never had or used a bike rack before and I'm just a casual rider for fitness. I have a 2006 Ford Focus hatchback style and it was tough finding or knowing what to get. I snagged this one despite a few reviews that made me nervous. It was EASY EASY EASY to figure out, a little less easy but not difficult to actually get it on the car, and it held up great. I drove 1900 miles in 36 hours with this bad boy attached to my car. I checked the straps regularly and they did need periodic tightening (like every 600-800 miles). I checked much more frequently because I was paranoid but they just didn't need any attention til that point.

I was wicked impressed, and for those who say it seems shakey at speeds over 60 or so, I don't know what they're talking about. The tail ends of the ties would whip my car a little so I guess that could sound bad, but this thing was stuck like glue at speeds varying from 55-100. Great buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great for kids bikes, August 16, 2010
By Mom to two Z's (Merrimack, NH)
I purchased this rack to replace our existing rack, which would not accomodate to kids bikes. Mainly because our previous one didn't allow for the shorter bar span of the 16inch kids bikes. This rack works great, and unlike other reviews, I think 3 bikes fit fine. Perhaps just alternating handlebar/rear wheel. Great value, and I love that it folds flat for storage. Our old one was bulky and didn't fold. Took up entirely too much space during winter months.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Pleased, July 15, 2010
By Steven G (Georgia, USA)
Used the rack today for the first time. I hadn't realized that side straps came with it, and so there are six straps securing the rack to the car and two straps to secure the bike to the rack. The rack doesn't budge when I tug at it and from what I could tell while driving, the bike rode quietly while on the rack. Straps are plenty long. This product strikes me as very good value. Don't know why someone would decide to pay lots more for a trunk rack.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Best Bike Rack I Could Find For My Hatchback, September 14, 2011
By Bubbles (Salt Lake City, Utah)
This rack wasn't meant to fit on my Subaru Impreza hatchback, but with four, 14-inch bungee cords, I made it work. There was no worry about the two bikes coming loose, as I traveled over 1200 miles at speeds up to 85mph. No damage to my car either. Great product!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Worked like a charm, August 27, 2011
By maximum verbosity (Ohio USA)
We bought this for our recent beach vacation and it arrived just a few hours before we were due to leave, so I was a little concerned after reading some of the reviews on here that it would be difficult to install and/or not too sturdy or not big enough.

We drive a 2005 Dodge Carvan and hauled three adult sized bicycles from Ohio to South Carolina and back. One bike was a beach style cruiser, one was a hybrid beach/town cruiser and one was a mountain bike. We had PLENTY of room for all three and probably could have fit a 24 inch or smaller child's bike on if we had wanted.

It was super simple to install, it literally took 10 minutes and minimal fuss. It was very solid, even driving through torrential rains and high winds in the mountains, bumpy roads, freeway speeds, etc. We never at any point noticed the bikes shaking, rattling or anything else that concerned us. We checked the straps at every restroom stop and everytime we stopped for gas and had no issues with it. It didn't scratch or dent our van in any way. It's very light weight, folds away easily and isn't bulky at all. The quality of the materials seem good, strong & sturdy and we expect this to last us several years with care (wiping it down if it gets wet, spraying it off when we're near the ocean & salt water air gets on it, storing it in the garage, etc).

In short, after using this on an 1800 mile trip in sun, rain, wind and salty ocean air with NO problems, I've concluded that the people who complained of their bicycles falling off, coming loose or from the rack damaging their cars, bikes or anything else, simple didn't follow the directions on how to install it or use it.....which makes zero sense to me because it was super easy. Our neighbor is an avid cyclist (competes in triathlons all over the country) and he was impressed with how simple this was to install and the quality of it, he liked it so much he ordered an extra one for their other car and one for their daughter, who also competes. And they know their bike stuff. Highly recommended to anyone who wants a budget friendly, great quality, simple to use bike rack (just make sure you have common sense as well) :)

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Best bang for your buck., August 15, 2011
By Mountain Mama
We got this rack as a last minute addition for a vacation. We ran out of room to carry our 3 child bikes and needed something right away.

The rack is super easy to install, holds tight over long distances, and didn't scratch our car.

We fit three child bikes on it no problem, now because our children are young, we had to get a little creative with fitting the frames over the rack, but over all, that wasn't the rack's fault, just the fact that the bikes are really small.

I would suggest making sure to use the extra ties it comes with to secure the bikes and to make sure to tie off the straps.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Almost met my expectations, August 5, 2011
By BHF Dave
I like the product but I really thought it would be able perform as advertised. It is ok to carry two bikes but it was advertised for three and I am sorry, that just won't happen. THe buckles on the two small straps became unusable after the the third time using them and I had to get some more straps to replace them.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Awesome!, June 20, 2011
By egcaki
This thing is great! Made really well, high quality! A tiny bit confusing to install the first time but I install if no problem in about 2 minutes now! Right out of the box I drove about 1,000 miles (IN to South Florida) with two bikes on this rack on my Ford Escape and it did not budge an inch the whole time! Straps stayed tight and very secure even going 75+ mph on the interstate and through mountains! I was very impressed by this rack. We only carry two bikes on it and two fit very comfortably. This thing is great!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Happy Camper, June 19, 2011
By Annie (Southeast USA)
Was pretty easy to install, even first time. Bikes ride well. As noted in the installation instructions, be sure car surface is very clean where rack meets car; it will scratch a little, even so, but seems to be unavoidable with this type rack. Also, with this type rack, you can't open trunk/hatch while rack is in place. Works on both my suv and my daughter's Mustang. Overall, happy with my purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Hollywood bike rack, May 1, 2012
By the Plain Page (South Florida)
The package came promptly in a box where I can store it when I'm not using it. Fits beautifully on my Highlander, my daughter-in-law' Nissan Rogue and my son's Sonata. It does not fit my Celica convertible that has a spoiler. Now I'm looking for a rack to fit my fun car. Great, sturdy rack.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Simple and great price., April 18, 2012
By danabob
This works great on the back of my '04 Subaru Forester. It feels a little strange to have the weight pressed against the back window. But after two long drives with 2 heavy bikes on the back, I believe it will be okay. It is easy to put up, and was the only option I really had. The price is great and it should work on lots of other car models too. I think their prices are by far the best for what you get.

This thing does the job and it works on my compact car just as well as the family van. It's great.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Awesome!, June 20, 2011

Extremely Useful, November 28, 2010

I love this rack. Used it originally on a Toyota Celica then switched to a Jeep wrangler. The rack made the transition in vehicles with no problem. I've even used it to haul snowboards and ski's. Very useful for such a basic design.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Didn't work for me, June 19, 2011
By Errol George
Doesn't work well with my Nissan quest, might be best for a car. In the description they say it works with mini vans, but It doesn't work for me. The straps are too short for a van, so the bottom part is not resting on the bumper to prevent it from shifting.
