narrow wheel base, only for small boards, June 5, 2010

I am not very satisfied with this product.
It is basically a set of 2 wheels, a plastic axl, which secures the wheels with pins.
The wheel basis is very narrow. For most boards you can probably only have it 6 inches from the tip of the pin tail of your board.
Besides, it is hard to secure the wheel base to the board. the best way should be when the board rests with its bottom (fins pointing down), but there is not enough clearance (about 4 inches)
turning the board upside down results in a non flat surface resting on the carrier, making it even more unstable.
To prevent it from sliding backward during the ride, the wheel base/carrier is secured with a strap to the front of the board. but it does not suffice making it a sturdy construction.
I did not return the set, because I unpacked the kit and was not sure if I would be refunded 100%. adding the shipping cost of about $30 would probably leave me with a few bucks.
I kept the set and modified it by making a home made axel from a treaded rod (1/2 "), securing the wheels with bolts. I made it wider (32")

In case you're looking for a way to transport your Stand Up Paddle Board to the beach, this works with our long Jimmy Lewis SUP, too. Don't know it's exact dimensions, but it's big.
