5.0 out of 5 stars.  This is a quality compressor for the homeowner, January 8, 2008
By Frank (San Antonio)
I purchased this item from Lowes just because I had seen this item manufactured on How It's Made on the Science Channel and took note that many steps were taken during manufacturing to insure a good end product. I have other compressors at my home including a 60 Gallon 240 Volt professional grade compressor but this portable compressor is a great product. It is compact, light, powerful, is stable and balanced when running, and has a cutoff pressure of 150 P.S.I. that helps it stay well ahead of the performance game. I use it whenever I want a portable air source, it is as convenient to transport as a portable vacuum cleaner. I would recommend this to any homeowner who needs a reliable, convenient source of compressed air. Additionally, it has two output quick connectors and very nice gauges and regulator. It is my first oil-less air compressor and I am satisfied with it's performance.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  A good value, September 16, 2007
By weekend warrior 13 (Rochester, MN United States)
I recently purchased this for my father, we work on a cabin in Canada, using a generator, and we wanted lightweight as we haul items in and out by boat. Also, the generator is not that large (3000 watt) and it handled this compressor without any problem. I previously purchased an oil-lubed compressor for myself (PC, 2.5 hp, dual tank, model CPLDC2540S), because I wanted something quite. I was surprised when I turned this compressor on, as it seems quieter than mine!! It also weighs less than mine!
There is 1 minute of assembly requiring a phillips screwdriver, but it was fairly easy (attach the motor to the tank, although the hose is already attached).
I think it is a good buy from of a good brand.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  UPDATED: Nice Compressor, with some Caveats, May 18, 2009
By comp_wizard306 (MI, USA)
Ordered this compressor for odd-jobs and basic 'inflation' duty around the house. Car tires, bike tires, and air mattresses... Very handy to have around. Unit is VERY light, much more easy to transport than I was expecting. Loud compared to my old 20gallon oiled compressor unit, but not unbearable.

Takes about 2 minutes from empty to full pressure cutoff. Very happy with the quality of the construction, clean looking unit and the 2 air outlets are a definite plus.

No hose is included with this kit, contrary to the attached picture. Better off going with the base kit and getting nicer accessory items than buying the full kit and paying a premium for 25ft of hose and a few cheap bits.

EDITED MARCH 28, 2011:

I broke the compressor in according to the information I read online (Run 15mins with the drain valve open to prevent pressure build up). So far it's still working fine for me.

One of my BIGGEST complaints, and the reason I've dropped a star off the review is the fact that the Hose Connections (2 of them, which is nice feature at this price) are attached directly to the gauge panel. The unfortunate part about this is that if the hose gets pulled, the whole gauge panel will rotate on the threaded air output from the tank. So far, it's happened to me about 3-4 times and it hasn't caused a problem-- but I'd really have to reconsider this for a medium duty environment. It's only a matter of time before it begins to leak.

2nd-- The compressor, for it's size, is just too LOUD. It's so loud and vibrates so much, that on any smooth surface (Concrete, Wood Floor) it'll actually vibrate the whole unit in a circular motion. Not a huge deal if you're not working in a tight space, but it's annoying to continually have to monitor the compressors position in my shop and pull it away from the wall. It does have thick rubber feat, but they just can't compensate.

I can't recommend it as whole-heartedly as I did before. For 150 dollars, I'd recommend saving a few more dollars and putting it toward a better quality/capacity unit.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Run away, don't even think about it, June 13, 2010
By Larry (NW Ohio)
I have owned this compressor for over a year, used it on 3 or 4 finish nailer projects around my house. Started leaking air bad. Ordered the replacement parts (tube and a "gasket") and I can see why it leaked. Once I disassembled it I could see that the parts were cheaply made - both the originals as well as the replacement parts. Rather than fix it, and probably have the same thing happen very soon - I opted to junk it and purchase a portable Ingersoll Rand compressor. Talk about night and day!!

I own quite a few tools, including another Craftsman compressor. Craftsman gets a bad rap sometimes, and sometimes it is deserved, but I've had my Craftsman compressor for years. It's a big one, not portable though - which is why I replaced this piece of junk PC Compressor with an Ingersoll Rand model.

I would advise anyone / everyone not to buy this compressor. It was the first Porter Cable tool I purchased, and based on the quality - I will not be buying any more products from this company. I had thought about a couple different woodworking products that are made by Porter Cable, but no longer even considering it!!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  My Ears are BLEEDING...., May 20, 2009
By Advice to Live By.... (Windy Hill Acres)
LOUD.... REAL LOUD.... Rock Concert LOUD...
Even with ear plugs and headset it's loud.

I had been using an inexpensive, off brand, pancake compressor for 4 years that was made in China... (that I still would be using, if I did not have a son-in-law who needs tools), the sound from that was like a lullaby compared to the Porter Cable.

I called Porter Cable... they mumbled something about loud is good.... and I coooould take it to a service center to compare it with others, although they did acknowledge it IS loud.

Which might not be a bad thing as I use this around the house and it lets the wife know I am hard at work. For maximum notice, the best time to turn it on is while she is still sleeping or just answering the phone.

Looks good.... I like the extra hose connector. Nice design. Did I mention LOUD....

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Excellent Value, January 31, 2009
By Rick H (Galveston, Tx)
This product provides a higher flow rate at 90psi and a larger capacity (6gal) than any other model in the price range. I even looked at some no-name brands from Harbor freight tools and they didn't even come close to the value

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Why buy this item?, November 29, 2009
By Mike A. (Valley Center, CA USA)
I own an older 125 PSI version of this compressor and it has given me good and dependable service for many years now. When I ungrade my compressor I intend to purchase another. However, I am a bit confused by the two versions of this compressor. The description for the C2002 indicates that the item includes the compressor only. Not even an air hose. Meanwhile, the C2002-WK, which is CHEAPER and also available on Amazon, is the very same unit but with an included 13-piece accessory package. My question is: Why would anyone pay more for less? I also see that both the C2002 and the C2002-WK are sold directly by Porter-Cable so it's not a matter of competing vendors. Am I missing something?

4.0 out of 5 stars.  CPO Porter Cable, December 17, 2008
By Scotty (East Berne, NY USA)
Ordered CPO Porter Cable refurbished compressor. Works and looks new. Easy to carry as well. Only problem was the drain valve was threaded wrong in the tank during the refurb.and I wound up breaking it off trying to unscrew it. Notified company and they said they would send me a new valve, been 2 months and never received the part. Poor rating on customer service but good on performance.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  A Great Value!!, February 1, 2010
By M. Perry (San Francisco, CA USA)
I am a picture framer and needed a new compressor to operate my v-nailer for picture frame assembly. When my $600 Italian-made air compressor died, I was in a quandry as to what to do.. I needed a compressor that could operate from a wall outlet (15amp) I needed a tank of at least 6 gallons and I needed a compressor that would put out at least 110lb of pressure... I thought that my only recourse was another $600 Italian-made compressor... I looked on Amazon and there was my answer! This machine is a dream to use and is not as loud as some reviewers suggest.. It's maintenance free, all you have to do is drain the tank after use. It has a seperate control for the pressure to the tool you are using it for, and if you wanted, you could have another line going to another tool... For the price this item is a GREAT VALUE! I like it much better than my crazy $600 compressor that simply froze up after only medium use..

UPDATE: A year later and it still works like a dream!! I would definitely recommend this great compressor!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  compressor, June 25, 2009
By Richard Jacob
We use this compressor with a small numbering machine we sell.
We have purchased over 20 of these units over the past years without any problems. This compressor fits perfectly under the machine.
We use to purchase them from Lowes or Home Depot, however the price from Amazon is much better and they deliver.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Compressor, November 16, 2010
By thomas p. stephens
Compressor worked well one time. Something broke and I took it apart.
Couldn't figure what was wrong so took it to an authorized repair center where they refused to perform the warranty work. Contacted Porter-Cable and they backed the repair center. Sent it back to Amazon and they refunded my money. Amazon handled the return even though I had kept the compressor past the return period. Will keep doing business with Amazon. They are customer friendly.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Light and Loud, May 29, 2009
By Charise (Wisconsin, USA)
I actually got a reconditioned version, but they don't seem to be offering that one right now, so I'll review this one. For the price, this air compressor is great. In the manual, it advises that it is not designed for framing nailers. I don't use it for that, so I don't find that to be a problem. I appreciate the 150 psi, 6 gallon tank because I can get quite a few shots off with a finish nailer before it recharges. The air regulator works well because I can keep the finish nailers running at a steady 100 psi. What's really nice about this air compressor is that you can hook up two nailers at once (e.g., a 15 or 16 gauge nailer for hanging doors and an 18 gauge nailer for the trim) without having to switch the nailers around constantly. It's surprisingly light and easy to carry, too.
Get some good ear muffs or ear plugs when you use this compressor, especially if you're in a basement, because it is LOUD. I like keeping my hearing anyway, so I always wear ear muffs for any power tools. I don't find this much of a deterrent since it works exceptionally well for the applications for which it was designed. The 13 piece kit isn't worth the extra money, so get this one and then buy some better accessories and a better hose.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Call the service technician!, January 8, 2011
By Stanley H Thacker
Bougth this comnpressor thinking it would be ideal for trim work. When I plugged it in to start, the hose from the compressor to the tank heated up and air came out between the compressor and the tank. Directions on the packaging states if this happens, call a service technician. This is a brand new compressor, what's with the defect?

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Perfect home compressor, January 26, 2011
By stuffed with data (Worthington, OH USA)
This compressor is the right size. You can carry it around, and it has the capacity to inflate a car tire. It also runs air tools, like my pneumatic wrench, for a sufficiently long time to loosen all five tire lugs. Because it charges up to 150 psi and has a 4 gallon tank, it ends up with a lot of capacity when running an air tool around 80 psi. Haven't tried painting yet, but I think the capacity / recharge time will be sufficient. Of course, any job with a ton of air use, like an air hammer, may frustrate you with having to stop to let it recharge. When I use my air hammer I only hit the work for a brief period and it works fine. Quality is solid and it is sort of noisy - wouldn't want to use it indoors if the family was home - get a long hose and leave it outside! The drain plug is handy, as are the dual hose connections. Recharge time is around 90 seconds. Overall, a well balanced design that suits me perfectly.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Be aware of this design flaw, September 1, 2011
By David Bygott (Tucson AZ USA)
We got a C2002 type 3 last year and have been using it infrequently for inflating tyres. It worked fine until someone screwed the regulator tap down too tight and broke a little bitty 10-cent plastic valve cap inside the regulator. The catch is that there now seems no alternative to buying a whole new regulator manifold, costing $75-80. That's almost as much as a reconditioned compressor! If anyone has found a cheaper solution to this problem, I'd like to hear about it. But I'd think twice before buying their tools again.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Great While It Lasted, January 23, 2011
By John Gill
I purchased a reconditioned model two years ago. Yesterday, the air pressure regulator failed; it would not allow any pressure at all. I was going to purchase a new regulator, but, in order to do this, I would have to buy a complete manifold at a cost of around $80 including shipping. This is almost as much as I paid for the compressor, so I have decided to try another brand this time--and a new one rather than a reconditioned item. The lack of individual, inexpensive parts, and the difficulty in finding the parts, prompted my decision to buy another brand. I can't afford to buy or repair a compressor every two years, particularly when it has had very limited use and has been treated with care.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Poorly Made, June 18, 2010

I had this compressor for about two weeks and the pressure switch broke. The price for a new pressure switch was half the cost of the compressor. I ended up throwing it out and buying a better brand.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Porter-Cable Air Compressor, July 9, 2009
By C. Petit (Springfield, MA United States)
I received the compressor quickly and in perfect shape. After the required 15 minute break-in, it charged the 30 gal tank in around 5 minutes and worked quite well on my first project, a tubeless lawn tractor tire which had rolled off the rim. The unit does not have a preset pressure set. The regulator doesn't bring the tire up to set pressure in a rapid fashion, so I recommend getting a good hose and attachment set that comes with a good gauge, and setting the regulator somewhat above the tire's required pressure. The noise level is moderate, and when it is running in my work shed, it is barely noticeable.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Compressor had little use and leaks air badly, December 4, 2011
By Bobb
When I first got this compressor I really liked it. But after the warranty ran out it developed a bad air leak. I really hadn't used it much. If I had to guess I'd say it has less than 10 hours run time.

UPDATE: the air was leaking through the check valve causing air to flow from the tank back to the compressor. A few light taps on the check valve unstuck the valve, and it's working fine now.
I've revised my rating from one star to three stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Buy it, May 13, 2012
By Dandan
I have had this for 7 or so years now. Mine looks a bit different but real close to this. It is loud when it runs,it airs up fast though. It runs off of household current real nice and never trips any breaker. My brother used it one time because his kept tripping breakers while trying to build a shed at his home. It would not be good for heavy use like running a sander. I have thought many times that I should have bought a bigger compressor but to be real honest this is all I have needed. It sits real nice next to the work bench and looks great. If you want to run nail guns air tires and other odds and ends I would buy this or the craftsman copy. Maybe the bosh would be good also, bottom line ,the pancake compressor is a smart choice.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Fails repeatedly, April 1, 2012
By 2c4fhr
This is my first review. I never seem to have time to write them, though I always read (and appreciate) the reviews that others have taken the time to write. My turn. So I am a professional residential remodeler. As you might imagine, I possess quite a stable of tools. And if not for one MAJOR flaw, I would continue to use and recommend this compressor. It clearly is not designed for significant framing activity. But its size and oil-less feature, make it ideal for trim work and small framing projects, EXCEPT for the fact that the drain valve on the bottom of the tank fails - over and over again.

I bought my first unit some 3 years back used it happily, if irregularly for over a year. Then the valve failed. I assumed it was a one-off thing and, given the reasonable price, bought another one. This time I got it at Home Depot since I needed one immediately. I used that for some many months (6-9?) and the valve failed again. I returned it and bought another one. Some 4-6 months later, it happened AGAIN. It always seems to happen in the middle of a project and I need to quickly go replace it. With a receipt, I haven't had an issue replacing it since I don't want to just throw it away and lose out on my "investment".

But darn if my FOURTH PC pancake compressor didn't just fail in the exact same manner just last week. That makes FOUR of these units that have all failed in the exact same way. I can't believe PC doesn't know about, and hasn't rectified this problem. It surely can't just be my bad luck. For someone who occasionally uses this compressor, maybe it will last for years before the valve fails. But it clearly can't handle any reasonably regular usage. And I should add that I always drain my tank after each usage. I don't let the air, remain in the tank and condense and rust the tank so it isn't a maintenance issue.

I wish this valve wasn't made so poorly because it renders the whole unit useless - it can't be site remedied with any ease or efficacy. I would otherwise have enjoyed keeping this tool in my arsenal. I guess I need to look elsewhere for my portable, oil-less compressor needs....

So

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Works well!, February 20, 2012
By tool lover (Sunnyvale, CA USA)
I'd have given it 5 stars, except that it can be a bit loud. Yes, it's a compressor and it will be loud, but it seemed to take quite a bit for the tank to fill. Mine came with the 18 ga brad nailer and hose. I like that it's quite sturdy on it's legs, and the round shape as opposed to a long elongate or boxed shape like a DeWalt.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Didn't last, January 1, 2012
By Michael D (Takoma Park, MD USA)
Bought this compressor as part of a Porter Cable PC3Pak Finish Nailer/Brad Nailer/Stapler Compressor Combo Kit in 2008. I used it for various home-improvement projects over three and a half years, and found it a pleasure to work with... and then it began to continuously leak air.

Seems ok quality for a few projects, but based on my experience, and other negative reviews, don't expect it to last.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Don't buy, if you plan to use it., December 15, 2011
By Eugene R. Roy (Tumwater, WA)
I bought this compressor just 1 year ago and used it for one project. The regulator broke, just a short time after I started to use it. The factory sent me a new regulator for it. The new regulator was not the same as the original and took some convertion. I installed it and the compressor worked fine for a while. I bought 1 year ago last week. It now runs but won't pump The factory says it is out of warrenty, and will do nothing about it. I need to buy a new compressor after only one year. The compressor looks like new. I take care of my tools. It has been used very little. Don't buy, it is cheaply made and will not last. I also have a Porter-Cable finish nailer that I used to trim one small bathroom. I tried to use it 2 weeks ago and it will not function properly. I just replaced it with a new one. Please don't buy Porter-Cable. You will be sorry. Thank You.

This compressor is nice and light, I had no problem running my framing nail er with this compressor. the noise level is what is to be expected from a small compressor pushing out so much air. to me this compressor is louder than my other small compressor but I don't have to break my back lugging this one around.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Good Value, December 16, 2010
By techam (TX United States)
Bought this compressor for use with my water well. It uses the compressor activated by a water level switch to force air out of the ground and into a settling tank.

I have had it almost a year now and it has worked well. Since it is out of sight I like that I don't have to remember to check the oil. I also like having the two couplers so that I can connect another hose to it without disconnecting it from the well.

I probably should have bought one with a little larger tank but this one has performed very well.
