Good for Securing Bike Seat, Wheels and/or Quick Release Components!, February 9, 2009
By L.Boogy (New York, NY)

The Kryptonite Kryptoflex cable is meant to be used in conjunction with a U-lock. It should ONLY be used as a means to secure quick release components like your seat, seat post and/or wheels in conjunction with a U-lock. It should NOT be used to secure the bike's frame to a solid object like a bike rack.
If you try to use this cable as your primary means of securing your bike (frame) then don't be surprised if your bike gets stolen (like another reviewer experienced, sadly). USE COMMON SENSE, PEOPLE!
For what it was intended to do (secure quick release components, bike seat, wheels, etc.) it does a great job.
I would recommend it to anyone that wants another added layer of protection on top of a solid U-lock.

Worthless Strands of Metal, June 16, 2008
By Art (Miami, FL USA)
|
|
I was recently burglarized and what the thieves didn't get were two bicycles that were coincidentally locked up with the Kryptonite Kryptoflex Cable. However, the cable had absolutely nothing to do with it--the bicycles were well hidden from view underneath a tarp and were not tampered with. When I tried to move the bicycles afterwards I realized I could not find the key to the lock. So I made some preliminary cuts to the cable with a hack saw, and then finished the job off by nibbling each strand of wire with a pair of aviation snips. The cable snapped in two in about 90 seconds and I was able to free the bicycles. I realized that if I hadn't hidden the bicycles under the tarp, they would have been stolen in spite of the cable and lock.
The Kryptonite Kryptoflex Cable is absolutely worthless when it comes to protecting your belongings against even the most basic tools of a criminal. Save your money and purchase a standard blue plastic tarp and hide your stuff instead. You'll save some money and have more piece of mind than what these worthless strands of metal with the childish comic-book brand can provide. The word "Kryptonite" is also a synonym for Achilles' heel, the one weakness of an otherwise invulnerable hero--a not too clever brand name either. You can even use the blue tarp as a cape and prance around your back yard like a real superhero. That ought to scare the crooks away.

Useful for front wheel and seat lock., December 4, 2009
By G. Powell (Seattle, WA USA)

With a decent U lock, like Kryptonite New York Standard Bicycle U-Lock with Bracket ( 4-Inch x 8-Inch), this will help you keep your bike safe. Yes you are relying it all on one U-lock, but with a good one, that's usually enough. If you want both your seat and your wheel, get the 7ft version. Yes you can cut these cables with a good set of cable cutters, one strand a time. And Amazon sells these cutters. But if all it gets the thief is just the wheel or your seat, chances are they will move to bike which is only locked with a cable and take all of it. Darwin'ian? yes, but everything can be broken given enough time and tools. The key is to make your bike less easy than everyone else's, without weighing your bike down so much that you might as well have bought a Wal-mart special and not bothered with the lock at all.
Focus on layers of security. Park it in a well lit area. Use a decent U-lock, add cables to make it more difficult. And don't rely on the weakest link to keep your bike secure.

Should have bought the longer one, October 11, 2010
By wilson b. (Oakland, CA USA)

I read the reviews and was a little bit worried about getting the six foot krptoflex since people were saying it is really long. I didn't need a cable that was so long, just long enough to wrap my two wheels around the pole and u-lock. Thus, I ordered the 4 foot cable thinking it would be good enough. When I got the cable though, it is only long enough to wrap around one wheel and then to the u-lock. I can't stretch it enough to wrap around the second wheel or the pole for that matter. If I could order all over again, I would probably get the six foot cable. I can say that even though the cable is 4 feet, it is solid and looks pretty strong. Of course you will need a u-lock to go with this, but for just a quick run to the grocery store, this should be just fine.

Don't waste your money!, January 31, 2009

We have been using this cable to secure 2 generators to our 5th wheel for several years. Apparently the cable is only good for keeping honest people honest because both generators ($2000+) were stolen when the Kryptonite cable was cut. So find another product that isn't easily cut.

nice cable, perfect length, September 21, 2010

This is a great cable, I use this cable to strap the front and back wheels of my bike plus a the New York Fahgettaboutit U-lock. It's the perfect length, not too long or short. Along with my U-lock, it's a secure and fierce combination!

the "Grand" security cable, January 11, 2010
By Tsui W. Kit (Mountain View, CA)

this stuff is heavy and big, it is true. don't think its a little shorter than the 1007 and neglect the weight. that was what i did.
I couldn't imagine what was it untill the package was opened. I even thought the U-lock was included. well, this is definitely not a handly security cable while you want to commute around the town and join your friends. my mate even chuckles it is for a motor. perfect security, I guess.
I wanted to return it but the fact is the return shipping costs $5 wow!
3 star is a brief rating. obviously it is not a great product for me.

Great addition to the great Kryptonite U-Lock, September 13, 2011
By DEREK MCCARTHY (Acton, MA)

Cable is the perfect length to go around your front wheel with the rear wheel secured to a bike rack with a u-lock. Velcro loop handy for keeping the cable together for the ride to & from. Orange cuffs match newer Kryptonite U-Locks and instantly alert potential thieves that another bike would be an easier target.

Sturdy, January 19, 2012
By ISi G

I have personally not tried to test the durability of this cable to common threats like wire cutters, but it does look and feel pretty strong. The cable itself is very flexible, though kind of short. I use it to lock up one tire in combination with a U-lock which holds the other tire plus the end loops of this cable. So far no problems, and it has a very handy little Velcro strap that makes transporting it on my bike very simple. If you want something to run through your entire bike, this cable is way to short. only reaches to loop around one tire then to like middle-front of frame body.

price above price list, November 15, 2010
By Srulik

amason says that price list is 8.95
but sells this item for $10.57
Isn't the price list is a highest price vendor wants retailers to sell?
I understand when some Joe Smoe overprice the item, but amason directly?
