About Planet Bike In November of 1996, Planet Bike was founded in Madison, Wisconsin. In many ways, Planet Bike began as a social experiment that dedicated itself to doing business in a different way. Instead of being just another company that develops and sells products with profit as its end goal, Planet Bike wanted to help bring about positive change for people, their communities, and the environment. Despite being a simple machine, the people at Planet Bike have always believed that the bicycle has great potential to help improve the world and the lives of the people in it. From the start, they have embraced an alternative corporate purpose which seeks to help get more people on bicycles by making communities friendlier places for the self-propelled. By donating 25% of company profits to causes that promote and facilitate bicycle usage, Planet Bike hopes to make an impact. Social experiments aside, Planet Bike was born from the heart of a cyclist with a goal of making innovative, high quality, and practical bicycle accessories. Simply put, they strive to design and develop the best bicycle products in the world. In the company's short ten year history, they have made important product innovations within the bicycle industry. Advancements include the 4-line computer which is now a standard in the industry and the world's first self-contained HID light. Not bad for a company that ten years ago started as a one man operation. Today, while still a small company, Planet Bike continues to evolve and improve their product line with the goal of always striving to build accessories that make it easier for people to ride their bikes. Since 1996, Planet Bike's financial support of the grassroots bicycle movement has totaled $500,000. By 2010, they have made a goal to donate $1 million to organizations that are dedicated to making America a friendlier place for cyclists. | |

| | I have bought three of these, one for my bike as a backup and one each for my kids bikes. I'm a regular all weather commuter and my prime tail lights are Dinotte 400R. I have this one incase I forget to charge my other system as a backup system can be life it self. The kids only ride a little after dark and never in the rain/sleet/slush. As a single unit it's not bad, but cars have to be right up on you in city lights at night to see it. On a dark road it does stand out. The Dinotte is 400 lumins and looks like an aid vehicle when it's going full on. But the cost for all those lumins is 8x this one. As a regular commuter that's worth it. But whether that one light would outshine 8 of these, well yes it would and I don't have that many places to mount 8 lights! But if you only ride in the dark some, and wear a reflective vest like Surveyor Safety Vest w/ Zipper Front, Ultra-CoolTM Mesh - Class 3 - High Visibility - Medium - Lime - ML Kishigo you'll be fine... maybe. At least until you can save enough dough to get some real wattage.

| | This little guy sure is blinky. The on/off button is easy to find, and installation and shipping were both super quick. Planet Bike donates 25% of their profits to "grassroots organizations that facilitate the use of bicycles." 25%?! That's a lot. Whether you are a dedicated cyclist or just like to take her out for a spin in nice weather, supporting this company supports the bicycling community at large.

| | Like other reviewers have stated, this is a great light. My wife and I ride our bikes frequently around Santa Monica and Venice, often at night. We feel much safer knowing that it's almost impossible for cars approaching behind us to not notice us.

| | I'm glad to have this light on my bike. I typically ride several days a week at dusk or night. Sometimes it's quite foggy. This light seems very bright and penetrating. I use flasher mode only. It's mounted on my left seat stay.
I'm on my 2nd one now. Why? After a few months with the first I noticed it didn't feel very positive in its seating in the slide-in mount. I ignored this. Big mistake. Some weeks later after a ride I looked down and it wasn't there. It had jiggled loose to disappear somewhere along the way. I ride a road bike on pretty decent roads, so I wasn't bouncing around over rock. But even then this should have remained seated.
Bought a second one with some reluctance as I think these are expensive for a taillight. But I do feel safer with it. It clicked in positively and tight. Only several weeks later I noticed it had loosened up already. Beats me why/how. So, once burned, twice shy, I inserted a small wad of masking tape near the top and then taped that to the mount. It's not going anywhere now.
Some others have reported this problem so it's something to bear in mind.
Battery life was decent for the first--I use rechargeables--and excellent so far (with the alkaline batteries included with the light) for the 2nd. Don't know how it will be with the rechargeables.
4 stars because while I'm very pleased with it as a taillight there are obviously design/quality control issues.
