4.0 out of 5 stars.  Three Bikes on your Cargo Carrier, November 23, 2006
By D. Mertig
I purchased the bike carrier for my cargo carrier. It arrived without the bolts (I'll tell you about this later). You have to alternate bikes, front tire - back tire - front tire to get all three on. It's really easy to attach and works great. You will have to purchase straps to secure the bikes to the carrier. The carrier is great but Lund International is not.

Now about the missing bolts. The first time I called Lund International the service rep was very friendly, took my address and phone number and said he would send the missing bolts right away. I called about a month later and the friendly service rep appoligized and said he would send them. I decided to purchase the bolts from the local hardware store instead. I wonder what their warrenty is like if they won't replace missing bolts. I hope this isn't standard business for the Lund Company.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Misleading picture and description, April 29, 2011
By J. Orlov
The picture shows what is not included (in gray) color and what should be included in (black), but what I received was only the bike holder (3 vertical wheel separaters) on the picture, the platform in NOT included, and it doesn't say anything about it not being included in the description either, it just says that the straps are not included.... sending back for a refund.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  holds my bike, November 10, 2008
By crudslinger (Atlanta)
This was easy to attach, and you still have plenty of room for cargo if you're not carry bikes. It gives a little bit of stability to the bike, but you still need to get some tie downs to strap it down pretty tightly.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Good product but not a complete solution, October 2, 2008
By Loeb (Tacoma, WA)
This attachment does a good job of keeping your bikes separated, but you're still going to need a lot of straps to secure your bikes. I wonder if I really even need this product, but I'd get it again given the choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great bike carrier, August 21, 2009
By Patricia E. Rawlins (Ironton, OH)
Purchased two of these carriers to put on my hitch tray. Photo shows using only one but I thought it'd be better to slide in both wheels. Very easy to install. High quality and strong. Highly recommend.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Wrong picture (cofusing), June 3, 2011
By joel
Hi,

i think the picture you are using for this product is confusing, because you have on the picture the all basket not only the bike attachment.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  great value, September 16, 2009
By K Foster (Va, Usa)
Arrived in great shape, much better then i expected for the money. I mounted it on a non-Lund Hitch basket. I did have to drill 2 holes. It works great. I bought 2 of them thinking that i would put one on either side of the basket to help steady the bike but one seems to work fine. You will have to alternate your bikes to fit 3 in: front tire, back tire, front tire.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Works even better -- when reversed!, August 26, 2011
By Darth_Maul
I had a slight issue with the tire placement into the groves and the tires remaining fully secure in the 3 grooves. They were secure, but it seemed like they should be even more secure than they were. I turned the triple grooves around to face inward, used the same bolt holes in reverse, and now when I place the bicycles on the platform and the bikes are:
1) Even more stable and secure than the original design.
2) Resting in the same spot as they would be if the grooves were facing outward
3) The grooves do not stick out beyond the edge of the platform.

You have to lift the tire to get it over the groove when placing it on the platform instead of sliding it right it, but it still was easy to do.
Try it out! It works great!

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Lund Bike Carrier, June 7, 2011
By Kevin S. Epps (Bear, DE)
I ordered the bike carrier because I wanted to have a little more storage capability if needed. The Lund Bike Carrier seemed like a feesable option. I could haul bikes AND firewood if needed.

I recieved the product earlier than expected, a few days earlier actually. That made me a happy consumer. I had to wait a couple of extra days for the carrier to come in before I could put it all together. That's okay. I wasn't in a hurry. The carrier came in the following Monday, it too was delivered a couple days earlier than promised. I love Amazon and that's one of the reasons.

Back to the review. At first glance, I thought this looks good. This will work great. I mounted the bike carrier in just a few minutes. Easy as can be. I then set a bike in the rack. Hmm. Not so happy here. It seems that the wheel rack is angled out a little too far. The bike tire is hardly in it at all. I thought, well, most of the reviews stated that 4 ratchet staps were needed to secure the bikes, but I thought that the bike should at least be able to stand up in the rack..right? They don't. So, my options are 1) strap down the bikes with several (4 or so) ratchet straps 2) take the carrier off and attempt to bent the wheel slots so that more wheel can fit 3) drill two more holes towards the center of the luggage carrier so that the wheel fits better. Now there are pro's and con's to each of these. I'm leaning towards number three because I dont' want to bent the carrier...I dont' know if the weld will hold. This would allow the wheels to fit better; however, I would loose cargo space on the rack (if I needed the space) AND there may not be enough room for the bike to fit.

So, right now I'm not so sure about this product. I will go back through and read reviews to find out what others have done, or if this has even been an issue. As of this moment, I dont' see this carrier as being very helpful.

UPDATE: After road tripping to the Outer Banks from Delaware, I have to give two thumbs up to the rack. I DID MODIFY the rack however. I did NOT like the way it was supposed to be mounted. Bikes were just too loose. I took the advice of another review and reversed the mount so the the tops of the tire rack faced inward. The bikes were much more secure this way. I realize that I loose valuable luggage space by doing this, but as I mentioned earlier, I bought the rack and the carrier to carry bikes not coolers, or boxes or whatever.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Does not hold wheels snugly, June 3, 2011
By Steven Schang
Only the bottom third of the wheel rests in the bike carrier. This does not provide a lot of stability for the bike. I ended up mounting the bike carrier backwards (facing in board). This way the carrier supported the backside of the wheel. Recommend get nylon straps with a cinching mechanism to secure the bikes and prevent them from moving.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great attachment!, April 25, 2011
By Hector33331
This attachment is very easy to install. The instructions are accurate. I don't think you need to buy 2 bike carrier attachments. Using one attachment like in the picture is enough. I alternate bikes on the attachment(1st bike -front wheel in, 2nd bike -rear wheel in, 3rd bike-front wheel in). I use 4-6ft tie down to keep them in place. It works great!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Waste of money, September 15, 2011
By BlakeD
unless the bike has the tire the same width as the adapter it doesn't work.
I looked for this for over a year befor I found on Amazon.
I had to create an adapter to attach bikes to so they would not fall over.
I would bend the wheel before getting straps tight enough to hold upright.
You also can't open the back door or hatch glass with the bikes in place.
I wanted it to quickly add bike to for fast trips in town but between fabing an adapter and the additional issues, no time saved.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Works well, if you modify, August 31, 2011
By DanP
I wanted to carry two 27" hybrid bikes on the Lund cargo carrier. I installed the first bike attachment and found it did not really support the bike as the tire could not fit far enough into the loop because the edge of the cargo carrier blocks the tire. Plus the other wheel moved around no matter how well it is tied down.

I purchased another bike attachment and found my bikes were not long enough to fit into both. I solved the problem by drilling new holes in the carrier about 4 notches inward from the ones on the carrier. Now it works great!

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Purchasing this item was a mistake, July 22, 2011
By Szymon (MI, USA)
I purchased the carrier and the bicycle adapter, and three months later I am convinced this was a mistake. My purpose was to use it as a bike rack.

First, the platform is not a one piece design, so the two halves are bolted in the middle, and at least in my item do not fit well. So the two sides look uneven and hand down.
Next, the bike rack adapter didn't hold the bikes firmly in place. I reversed the holder and now it seems a little better, but three adult bikes would never fit in. The bikes need additional straps, only it is unclear where on the car to strap it to. Tying the bikes down to the carrier still makes them top heavy, to I end up pulling a tie from the roof rack to the handle bars.

I noted the faults right away, but felt bad about sending it back and thought I could make it work.

:(

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Review of Lund 601009 Bike Carrier, September 8, 2009

The Lund bike carrier was exactly what I thought it would be. It arrived more quickly than expected, was easily installed onto another brand of rack/tray and works perfectly.Lund 601009 Non-folding Bike Carrier Attachment

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Lund carrier, August 18, 2009
By Kevin C. McCurrie

I used the carrier recently to bring our bikes to the Chicago Air Show and I was impressed with the quality and versatility of the carrier. I bought the bike carrier attachment and the rail attachment to get the most out of the carrier and I am very pleased with the Lund products.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Lund 601009 Non-folding Bike Carrier Attachment, September 7, 2011
By Tee (U.S.A.)
Item just arrived.

Boxed with in a box, so packaged well.

Heavy duty, sturdy metal constructed. Well made.

This attachment can be added anywhere you want a bike rack.

I plan to attach it to a 4x8 trailer, welded on of course better longer life span.

This item only cost me $27.** dollars, well worth the little money.
Would have cost me more then that to construct one from scratch.

Later I might buy another one for a bike rack attachment for the garage!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Works well for 2 bikes...but 3?, May 2, 2011
By A. Chan (CA)
Pros:

-Bolted Right up
-All Hardware needed was included
-nice finish and quality
-works even with the side bars on. ( I have the bar attachment kit on my carrier )

Cons:

-I can fit 2 Mountain bikes easily, but 3 would be kinda tricky without banging up all the bikes against each other
-straps are required to secure the bike in any manor suitable for driving

Things to consider:

-Keep an eye on the handle bars as they could hit the back window of your SUV
-With your bikes all loaded you will block the license plate of your vehicle (depending on its location)
-The rack does stick out so be aware of that when parking

Overall for the price it still works and fit, and get the job done with some work.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Quality product, November 1, 2009
By L. J. Anderson (Brecksville, Ohio United States)
Good product, (as expected from Lund) easy install, should have bought another for the opposite side, but not needed, just added stability. Could be modified for a truck mount, or pavement parker.
