Short, cute and mostly useful, February 21, 2009

I read several books while learning to unicycle last year and this one was in the middle of the pack. Its most salient features are brevity and good illustrations. The advice it gives for the never-ever beginner is good and indeed helped me get to the point of basic straight riding from a supported start.
Unfortunately, its advice on the very next skills of starting (free mounting) and turning is not so great and I might still be scratching my head if not for some other texts.
Beyond the basics, it introduces some more advanced skills--mostly to say that _some_ people can do these things, not to provide any practical advice on how to learn these things yourself.
If you want a quick and practical source to help you achieve the most basic skill of riding 10 or 20 yards, this will do the job. To the extent it leaves you hankering for more, you can always join a group or buy a more in-depth text.
