5.0 out of 5 stars.  Good for the beginner but nothing new for the intermediate, July 12, 2007
By sprhero (Portland, OR)
I bought this book to learn some more about unicycling but found that I already learned all that it had though I Could have used it when I started so I would recommend it for the beginner.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Basic tips to get started, August 2, 2007
By R. Weiss (Maryland)
This book has helpful tips and photo illustrations, as well as useful advice on avoiding bad habits. It is written for a complete beginner, and includes information about selecting the right kind and size unicycle. I bought it hoping that a magic trick to make this easy would be revealed--but of course the "trick" is to practice--for hours and hours.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  The book to get if you want to learn to ride, September 7, 2008
By Charles Long (Burlington, Colorado United States)
This is the best resource out there for a person wanting to learn to ride the unicycle. If you're a beginner, I highly recommend you skip all the others and just buy this book.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Crash Indeed!, February 18, 2009
By Ray Daniels (Wandering the USA)
I bought several books on unicycling a year ago and succeeded in learning to ride within a few weeks. Looking back at this one, I would describe it as distinctly unhelpful. It takes a sink or swim approach, asking learners to cope with starting, managing momentum and balancing left to right all in one step. More useful resources break these parts down into isolated steps that can be practiced one by one to make the experience more fun and rewarding. Other books also provide options for settings where you can learn--this book focuses on just one approach and one somewhat challenging setting.

I'd recommend other books over this one for all who actually want to learn to unicycle rather than just reading about it.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  ESSENTIAL book, September 19, 2010
By cnajar01
This book was more help when I was just beginning to learn to ride [a unicycle], than the private lessons I took.

Additionally, the author encourages you to e-mail him.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Excellent - my 12 year old daughter taught herself with this book, June 17, 2009
By Bob P. (Newport Coast, CA United States)
Great book. I didn't read it myself, but my 12 year old daughter taught herself to unicycle with this book. She had no help from anyone - certainly not me - and now she rides about 1.5 miles to school most days.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Very pleased!, January 11, 2009
By concerned mother (Los Angeles, CA)
My son is using this book to learn to ride, and he is doing a great job. However, my review is of the seller. The first book the Seller sent to me vanished in the Christmas postal service rush. The Seller was very prompt about sending me a replacement and was most cordial about it. I would HIGHLY recommend this seller to anyone else.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good Uni Book, June 10, 2008
By Music Maven (VA, USA)
This is a great book for learning how to ride. It is very informative and fun to read. My only complaint would be that it does not teach you how to do tricks. But it's by far the quickest way to learn unicycling.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Short and to the point, December 21, 2010
By Theodore D. Sternberg (Fremont, CA United States)
The best way to learn is with a teacher, but if you're going to learn from a book this one is pretty good and, for the price, a definite must-buy. Vivolo has one great insight, which is that you *must* lean forward, that indeed the very act of walking requires leaning forward (try walking a bit and then straightening up to vertical; you'll stop). And beyond that he's a good guide to the rest of the beginner skills -- freemounting and turning. The only thing I can complain about is that he does not cover the "step-over" maneuver which other books cover before they even have you get in the saddle. And he could also say a little more about the proper way to dismount; he tells you to fall off forward, which, granted, is better than falling off backward, but he could have said that even a beginner can and should learn to ID (involuntarily dismount) landing on his feet (not his butt) and with one hand catching the uni's seat tube. I ID'd easily thousands of times before I could ride twenty feet. I'd have gone through a dozen unis in that period, if I'd let the thing just crash each time.

I learned from Jack Wiley's _Complete Book of Unicycling_, which does cover the step-over and the ID, and I'm grateful for that. On the other hand, Wiley is not as strong as Vivolo on what you do right after you've mastered the step-over. So I'd recommend Wiley too though right now the lowest price for it is about $29. Wiley's book is worth getting if only because it has a great deal of historical and cultural material including funny pictures of 1960s people unicycling in dark oxfords, white shirts and ties. I'd also recommend Charlie Dancey's _How to ride your Unicycle_; he covers the step-over and also takes you (very tersely to be sure) to advanced skills like freemounting a 7-foot giraffe uni.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  The title sums it up, April 18, 2010
By C. Althof (New York, NY)
I tried to teach myself to ride a uni for several weeks, with no luck. Finally I picked up this little book, and two weeks later I was riding as if it were second nature. This is a book for the absolute beginner, and shows you the proper way to start riding without picking up bad habits in the process. It's a small book (you can read it in one sitting easily) but the method contained within is golden.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  good book, July 22, 2009
By marqui33 (Hollywood, CA)
Book is clear and easy to understand. It gives a couple of different methods to get your balance while learning even though the author perfers one style, he shares other styles that may better suit your needs. I find it well written and an easy quick read since I wanted to jump on my new unicycle so quickly. You will enjoy it. This is the only book I ordered so I cannot compare it with the others out there.
