Buyer beware - but in a GOOD way, February 19, 2010

I'll let other reviews speak to the coolness of this product - my review here is about a potential issue with forCycling's listing that will allow you to get this for the best possible price.
Let me explain. Tacx Fortius comes in two models: Fortius Multiplayer and plain Fortius. The Multiplayer is the full package: stand and VR steering frame, while the Fortius is the bike stand only. Given this unit is not specifically listed as Multiplayer, and that it is a much lower price than a unit advertised elsewhere on forCycling as Fortius Multiplayer, I assumed this was the more basic unit. So I ordered this along with the separate steering frame, thinking how smart I was to still be getting a much better price than the Fortius Multiplayer. forCycling even shows the message "Customers often purchase this unit with the steering frame"
Guess what? When the package arrived today it was the Fortius Multiplayer - the full package including steering frame. I now need to return the separate steering frame I had ordered.
Bottom line: check with the seller first before ordering this item - you may or may not need the steering frame. Either way, it is a tremendous savings over the Fortius Multiplayer advertised elsewhere on forCycling.

Realistic Riding Sensations, January 20, 2010

I've had this trainer for a month now. As a comparison, I have also had a Tacx I-Magic and a Computrainer. Of the 3, the Fortius is the most realistic - closest to riding outside. I think this is due to the "motor brake" which keeps a few seconds of momentum that the rider has generated. This allows you to rest a little more when riding downhill or in a draft. This, of course, reduces your workload, but it feels very real.
I use the trainer with mainly Netathlon to ride online against other riders, and it is a blast. I occasionally use the Fortius and the Tacx Trainer software, but I'll leave the review of those to others. NetAthlon 2.0 for Cycling
The con I have with this unit is that the first one I received had a bad power supply and the frame could be more robust (it's a little flexy).
