4 out of 5 stars.  cheap tandem good value, August 30, 2010
I have had the tandem for about a month. As many of the reviews have said it is an inexpensive tandem that gets the job done. I am 5'9" and a fairly strong rider. My wife is 5'2" and rides very little. We have taken it out for a few 20 mile rides out for coffee and over all it has performed well. On the bad side, as a previous reviewer stated, there is no lubrication on the bike. You should grease the chain, and if I knew how to grease the ball bearings I would. The instructions are poorly written. I struggled to complete the assembly of the front breaks. I think it is a great choice to try out tandems for the first time.

4 out of 5 stars.  Great BUT a few caveats, August 30, 2010
Bike arrived undamaged (as compared to some other reviewers).

This bike is a lot of fun. It's impossible not to smile when riding it!

A few important notes:

1) the cranks were loose; had to take it to a bike shop

2) the extra large rear gear did not work - the derreauler could not reach it. The bike shop said this happens a lot with cheap-o bikes where the components aren't really made to fit together.

3) the shifter cables were actually brake cables; again because of the low cost "not really made to work this way" componentry

Overall we spent another $150 at the bike shop getting the bike ready to ride. However, even at $400 after the extra $150 in costs, it's still a steal and a lot of fun. Highly recommended, just reserve a bit of cash at your local bikeshop for some tune up items.

4 out of 5 stars.  Decent bike for the price, August 19, 2010
I bought this bike as a training tool for my 16 year old mentally challenged son, as a means to help him to develop some coordination skills and learn to balance himself on a bike; while dad does most of the pedaling. I was a little leery considering its manufactured in china I didn't expect much of the bike in terms of quality plus I wasn't sure if my son would take to it. And I didn't want to spend to much money on something that may just sit in the garage. Assembly was easy, just basic hand tools some minor adjustments I was surprised at the quality of the bike for the price. In no way am a I hobby/professional bike guy at all, so for these folks it may not be enough bike but for the occasional bike rides at the campgrounds or weekend park rides this is more than adequate. PLUS... my son LOVED IT! In my book money well spent.

4 out of 5 stars.  Good Value For The Money, August 10, 2010
Anyone looking for an entry level tandem bicycle should seriously consider this product. First of all I ordered the bicycle with the free super saver shipping. The bike arrived in two days. Very nice. Bicycle was packaged very well. Nothing missing. Instructions are not the best, but I have experience putting together bicycles. I just took my time and completed assembly in a little over an hour. My girlfriend and I were riding that evening. For the price I felt the ride was better than expected. Shifting is pretty smooth. We ride on a rail to trail system in SW Pennsylvania. Bicycle is up to the task. Pretty nice gel seats come with the bike. I have few if any complaints. (Paid $275 and price dropped 2 days later! Oh well.) We did not want to invest too much money. She hasn't ridden since she was young. I ride often. I feel we could get a few good years out of this bicycle before we graduate to a better model. We have received many compliments on the trail about the bike. I don't think you can go wrong buying this bike. I have already recommended it to my friends and family.

3 out of 5 stars.  Adequate for the Money, July 18, 2010
We received the bike in good time and in good condition - it was missing the front wheel lock washers, but all else was there. Once we got it put together (+/- 6 hours) it rode well. Tires are sketchy, as mentioned in other reviews, but serviceable for cruising around the neighborhood. Shifting was adequate once adjusted - I mean, this is not a $3000 Cannondale with SRAM Red, so don't expect a lot of precision.

I contacted Customer Service to get replacement front wheel lock washers - several days later, I received a nice shipment of headset bearings. Oh well - I just tightened the front axle bolts a little more and went my way.

The word here is "adequate". Don't expect to take this bike on all-day tours, unless you spend considerable time and money upgrading. For the money though, it's hard to complain (much).
