Thule's Spare Me 2 Bike Carrier fits over the spare tire that's strapped to the back of your SUV or the trunk of your Cadillac. T3 bike cradles secure your expensive bikes, so they don't pop off when you're rallying your vehicle on the way to the trailhead. Thule's wing-knob makes lowering the arms when you're not using the rack super easy, so you don't clothesline yourself trying to get groceries out of the trunk of your Deville. If you ever get a flat on your car, you can simply pop off the rack to get to your spare tire. The Spare Me works with almost any truck with a spare tire mount, but call our gearheads just to make sure before you buy.

Designed for convenience and durability, the Thule Spare Me spare-tire mount rack holds up to two bikes at once, making it an ideal accessory for camping trips and cross-country drives. The Spare Me offers an updated, high-tech look that matches Thule's successful hitch line, so it won't look out of place on modern cars. More significantly, the rack's T3 cradles easily protect your bikes without sacrificing the fit of the frame or the rack's adjustability. And thanks to the improved wing knob, it's easier than ever to raise and lower the bike arms. Made of powder-coated steel tubing and designed to fit a wide range of tires, the Spare Me comes with a heavy-duty strap to secure the bikes and a locking knob that's compatible with Thule's 583 cable lock system. The Spare Me carries one or two bikes and handles up to 75 pounds.

Fits 2007 RAV4, August 11, 2010

Spent almost an hour trying to fit the Yakima Spare Time on my 07 RAV4. It almost fit but not quite. Others have said that it fits but I just couldn't get mine on the lugs properly. Exchanged it for the Thule Spare Me and installed it in ten minutes, but you have to get the XT model, although they probably all are XT now. I'm a Yakima guy and I liked their design, but the Thule fit my RAV and works fine.

I bought this for my bicycle but it was a little bit wide , my womens bicycle fit on it but just barely. Since it was pretty much only for my bike I took the front cradles off so that the rack only holds one bike, it makes it easier to get my bike to the back of the rack. The bike rack does seem to move while driving but it is pretty secure I dont see it falling off but I cant help checking in the rear view mirror everynow and then just to be sure.

This is rock solid, and much better quality than the racks with the stupid nylon straps.

Great rack for the money, April 11, 2010

I've purchased Thule racks for skis, kayaks and now this one for my mountain bikes, and, as usual, the company knows how to design a great product. This replaced an old over-the-tire rack (with cables surrounding the spare) that had gotten old and rusty, and I really like the design and how it screws into the spare hub behind the tire. It's also adjustable depending on whether your tire is left, right, or center, allowing you to position it so that the bikes don't hang over one side of the vehicle or the other. You don't need a PhD, thick instruction book or a garage full of tools to put this rack in place. You should have it out of the box and ready to haul your bikes in less than 30 minutes.
The rubber straps on the bike arms are particularly useful, allowing you to clamp down the bikes securely without having to worry about using too many extra bungee cords or straps. And it's an attractive design, sturdy brushed silver and black with clean lines.
My only complaint is that the arms are awfully difficult to move up and down when not in use. I always feel like I'm going to break the plastic frame around the fold-down arms when attempting to put into place or stow away. Otherwise, I would have given this five stars. But in terms of quality and price, you can't do better than this rack.

Does what it's supposed to do, March 26, 2010

Installed on a Honda CR-V. Instructions are clear, works as advertised. Easy to remove and put back on. Sturdy. Holds two adult bikes well. Make sure your bike is wide enough - my old Canondale has an extra crossbar near the front and it just barely fits.
