Daypacks come in all shapes and sizes, but few compare to the CamelBak Alpine Explorer, which offers plenty of technical features, a secure fit, and 100 ounces of hydration. Camelbak's largest daypack, the Alpine Explorer is built for comfort, with an Air Director back panel and a Dynamic Suspension harness. The back panel is equipped with lumbar support and an Air Mesh construction, so your back will stay cool and comfortable even after several hours on the trail. The Dynamic Suspension harness, meanwhile, teams with the dual compression straps and sternum strap to distribute the weight evenly across your torso. And hikers will love the Alpine Explorer's variety of cargo compartments, which includes a large main compartment, two zippered compartments, one mesh side pocket for overflow storage (or a water bottle), one external-zip side pocket for quick access to essentials, a fleece-lined pocket for sunglasses or an MP3 player, and a front pocket with a pull-out organizer design.

The most valuable feature, however, is the fully insulated 100-ounce Omega HydroTanium reservoir. The reservoir--which offers full-zip back panel access for easy loading--will keep you cool and hydrated for hours on the trail, so you don't need to bring along several clumsy water bottles. The reservoir also includes a Big Bite valve for water delivery and a handy valve cover to keep your Big Bite clean and protected.

About CamelBak
CamelBak is the originator and world leader in hands-free hydration systems. The first CamelBak products proved to be extremely popular among mountain bikers and motocross riders, because it allowed them to drink without taking their hands off the handlebars in technical terrain. The product began to cross over into other sports when scientific studies showed athletes drank more fluids and performed better when they were a CamelBak. Since then, athletes from an ever-growing list of sports and activities began to use CamelBak hydration systems for their convenience and performance benefits.

In addition to cycling, CamelBak offers hands-free hydration systems for hiking, running, snowboarding, and skiing. CamelBak's state-of-the-art packs and hydration systems have benefited athletes, outdoorsmen, and soldiers around the world. While CamelBak has grown tremendously since the early days, one thing hasn't changed--CamelBak still believes in the performance advantage that proper hydration delivers for just about any activity. The privately held company is headquartered in Petaluma, California.

4 out of 5 stars.  Excellent, but could use some instructions, June 1, 2010
I like this hydration pack. I have used it for both cycling and hiking. It is comfortable and carries a lot of water. My only complaint is that I couldn't find any instructions on how to use it anywhere in the package or online. I think I've figured out the main parts properly--how to fill the reservoir, hang it in its sleeve, and drink from it, although none of this was clear to begin with. In addition, there are lots of straps and buckles, and I'm not sure what they're all for or how best to use them.

5 out of 5 stars.  Great Pack for Double Duty Day/Quick Overnight Use, May 10, 2010
The Camelbak Alpine Explorer is a great larger sized daypack or smaller sized overnight pack with an excellent 3 liter hydration system. Check out the video for an overview of the features and a demonstration of the capacity of the pack. Hope it helps and thanks for watching! If you might be interested in a similar but smaller hydration daypack, check out my video review of the Alpine Explorer's little brother the Camelbak Cloud Walker.

5 out of 5 stars.  Under the hump, November 6, 2009
I used to scoff at the Camelbackers, fretting over hydration so much so that they carried virtual lakes on their backs, needing to have the life giving tube within inches of their lips in case of imminent desiccation. Well, look at me now! I too am now sporting the aqueous hump, blue tube at the ready, daring the drying sun to do its worst. This pack has great storage, and a plethora of little pockets, loops, clips and pouches. My old pack was basically one big nylon bag with shoulder straps, capacious but charmless. The Camelbak has lots of charm, not the least contained in the elegantly understated blue bladder. In a pinch, an impromptu super soaker can be made of the aforementioned novelty. Surprisingly, the water from said bladder does not have a strong plastic taste. The design of the pack is such that even with a full load of H2O, lunch, spare clothes and emergency gear the weight is easy to bear, and the sweaty back syndrome is mitigated by the air channel between skin and nylon. I like the pouch behind the waist strap which is perfect for keys or the ubiquitous cell phone. I just can't wait to get thirsty on the trail again! Oops-Initially gave this pack a one star in error. I must have been delirious with under hydration. It certainly merits a 5.

4 out of 5 stars.  Comfortable, big and simple., September 12, 2009
Great fit, barely feel the weight on my back. Unlike my last backpack this seems to better balance and distribute the weight. Gotta say this thing needs more pockets and the mesh middle pocket is not well designed. All in all I am glad I purchased this pack and its works great for my daily bike ride to college.

4 out of 5 stars.  Good pack, September 1, 2009
Lots of pockets with good capacity. Well made. High capacity bladder. I would like to see adjustments for the top side of the straps like those on my overnight pack. When the bladder is full it tends to pull back on your shoulders. It would be nice to have strap adjustments at the shoulders to keep the weight forward at the top when needed. Overall, a good product at a good price. I Would recommend this to others.
