2.0 out of 5 stars.  A good idea with a FATAL FLAW, February 25, 2007
By M. Myers (Homosassa Springs, FL United States)
I'm a big fan of Topeak's gear. I own two of their racks, couple of pumps, bags, etc. I use the MTX trunk bag/panniers to commute, and I live in Florida so I needed rain cover. I purchased this, and to my surprise----Topeak failed to include a strap for a rear blinkie. Yes, the cover is yellow. Yes, there's a reflective triangle. But that's not the same as a blinkie. Gee, Topeak, do you think people might want to run a blinkie in the rain? Stupid lack of planning.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  not truly helpful, May 27, 2009
By C. Carter (austin, tx)
The main design problem with the rain cover is that water collects and pools inside of it at the bottom of the panniers. When the rear wheel kicks up water it sprays off the bottom of the rack and then drips down the inside of the panniers and collects inside of the rain cover. I do not have fenders, this might mitigate the problem.

The fabric is also easily stained by road grime, and quickly turns from pretty yellow to spotted with brown.

Overall, I would say it is fairly useless as the panniers get wet anyway and the main compartment is fairly waterproof already as it is protected by the top compartment. Save yourself $15 and just use a plastic grocery bag on the top unless you also plan on investing in a pair of fenders.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Topeak MTX EXP/DXP Rain Cover, September 1, 2008
By M. Yakiwchuk (Edmonton, Alberta Canada)
To expand on the comments of earlier reviewers, this is a great rain cover. My first concern was that it would fit my bag, a Topeak MTX DXP trunk bag. Fortunately, it does this with room to spare, even with the bag fully loaded.

This rain cover is light, easily packable in its own pouch (I recommend letting it dry first before folding it back up and putting it away though), and, thanks to the reflective gray triangle on the outside, intuitive to setup. Besides providing increased visibility, the reflecting triangle also lets you know which side should face outwards so there's no confusion. This is important since the bag is held in place by a number of integrated elastic bands, and if this bag were put on inside-out it might fly off in-transit.

So to summarize, if you want a lightweight, portable rain cover that will protect the contents your trunk bag from wet weather, the Topeak rain cover represents a good value for the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Biggest con has a simple fix, March 8, 2011
By E.E. White
I had purchased this pannier cover for the days in southern California when it rains. The price was great and installation is extremely simple. A few of the reviews previously posted had commented on the accumulation of water inside the bottom of the cover on both sides. This has an extremely simple solution. Take 2 plastic grocery bags and "bag" each hanging pouch of the panniers. Then take the elastic cord that comes on the zippered lid of the MTX pannier and run it through all 4 bag handles, cinching it with the plastic stopper and tying a loose knot. This will keep the 2 grocery bags from slipping down. Then install the rain cover like normal. This simple solution will keep everything in your bags dry.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Topeak Rain Cover - Pretty Good, May 12, 2008
By M. Coyne (Maryland)
This is a pretty nifty, light weight "rain coat" for my MTX Trunk Bag DXP. As the other reviewer said, though, it would've been nice if there was a place for a rear light.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  It's a rain cover!, December 26, 2009
By O. C. B. Rn (San Diego, CA USA)
Not a whole lot to be said, it is a rain cover, it fits pretty well on the bag, and when not in use it folds into its own pouch. Bright color too, hopefully help all the distracted bus drivers to see you on the road.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  A simple compact raincover for the MTX D/EXP trunk bags, July 9, 2009
By John (Portland, OR)
From what I've seen, It's small, it's waterproof and it works. That's all I ask a rain cover to do.

The only negative I see, and this is true of every raincover I've ever used for trunk bags and panniers, is that they don't protect the inside of the luggage from road spray from the wheel.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  An all around good product., June 3, 2009
By A Normal Guy (Grand Haven, MI United States)
This is simply a good all around product. It does what it says and works well. Some minor things could make it better, like less flapping in wind and/or easier to put on, but again, these are minor things. I do like that it stows pretty compactly in the trunk bag.

Don't get the pack without getting the rain cover!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  No brainer, June 22, 2011
By Joe
While the Topeak bags are very weather resistant, they are not waterproof. If you carry important things in your bag you'll want to keep them as safe as possible.

This rain cover works well and takes up little room in my saddle bag. I can recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  A necessary accessory for your bag, August 8, 2009
By RK
I have used the EXP bag witout a rain cover for 6 months or so, and love it for both commuting and camping. Recently, I was caught in a down pour, and EVERYTHING in the bag got wet, including wallet and its contents, my change of clothes for the office, and my cell phone, which now only works on speaker phone. I will edit this review when I get slammed again, but in the meantime, I will be carrying this cover and plastic bags for phone and wallet.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great but...., December 1, 2009
By L. German (Kansas, US of A, baby!!)
Great but inner wall portion of bag(closest to back tire)gets wet. Cover has a small bag attached to it, easy fold in. Packs into a wallet size, will not take much space inside pannier.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Seems to be fantastic - not fully tested, March 5, 2011
By 1967Corvette1
Haven't fully tested the rain cover as it is the dead of winter in Wisconsin. But for grins I loaded up my Topeak bike bag and panniers and the rain cover worked as advertised - snugly hugging the bag. It looks like it will work well. The material is high quality and its thickness is exceptional. Looks like it will work well. It folds up easily into its own pouch.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Rain Protector, January 5, 2011
By S. Beal (Winter Park, FL USA)
If ride your bike often, you cannot avoid wet, rainy conditions. This cover works great in protecting your Topeak Trunk Bag and its contents. This item is a "must have" if you ride often with a Topeak Trunk.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great bag, nice to have. bicycle commuters tool, May 23, 2010
By FLD (Arlington, VA USA)
I just got this with the understanding that my light may not work under the bag... the material is thin enough to let the light through. Understand you will not get full visibility but in the rain a flashing red light will keep those who are looking for you from hitting you, (there is no hope for anyone else) I have no problems at all keeping my light on the access point on the back of the Topeak MTX trunk Bag I keep a spare bottle back there to keep the light pointing up and snug against the rain gear. The nice thing is my light does not get road splatter or rain so I really don't have to think about it. And yes it does catch some rain near the bottom, and it does not cover the bag on the inside next to the tires, (that is where the MTX pannier covers keep out the rain) but come on nothing is perfect and to keep my stuff dry and not letting it get soaked so I can look professional at work is really the most important.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  It does what it is intended to do!, February 1, 2012
By N. Rasmussen (Arcata, CA USA)
I really like this cover. It works well. I used it during heavy winds, rain and hail and it held up nicely throughout the ride. I also like how it is yellow (I have other rain gear that's black) which stands out in the rainy weather. It also has reflective stuff so that is a plus as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice rain cover, January 29, 2012
By Charlotte Key
I have not used this rain cover for my NTX Topeak Trunk Bag yet but I think it will work just fine. The material is thick enough yet folds smallish to keep in the bag when not in use. I liked the review the person who used regular sized grocery bags and secured them to keep this bag dry totally from the rain and splash up and have put some of these grocery bags in my panniers to use for this purpose when I need it. I also copied that review of how that individual does that, and cut it and put it in a little paper size in my rain cover little case that it comes in so I can read that right then when I need it.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Get also mudguards for proper rain protection, December 28, 2011
By Grigori Rasputin
Rain cover is very good and designed specifically for EXP or DXP bags. I'm putting the fenders to prevent water getting on the bottom of the cover. I like that it folds into it's own pocket and doesn't take much space in the Trunk bag. I was caught in heavy downpour in the past without the rain cover for my bag and I don't want to have the same experience again.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great bag, but didn't meet my needs, November 28, 2011
By Fsnah (Los Angeles, 90039)
I loved this bag...but it isn't that big. I need to carry my MacBook Pro 17", work clothes, my lunch and some other sundry items on a daily commute. Even though the whole Topeak clip in rack ecosystem is very good it really is still geared towards smaller loads. No way I could carry groceries or anything very bulky.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Solid Rain Cover, November 7, 2011
By jtdunc
Was worried that it was going to be flimsey trash bag type plastic. But it is a durable thicker plastic type material that covers all of your truckbag with both panniers down and full. Love it. Wish the inside or the rack side when the pannier are down had material going all of the way to to wrap around the hardcase pannier panels that zip up. In heavier rains, those panels can get sprayed. But again, that has only happened once in rainy Seattle. It's a keeper and a must have if you have one of these MTX trunk bags. Should sell them together!

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Amazon just couldn't get this right!, September 2, 2011
By RT
This product is fine. I ordered it with the Topeak Trunk Bag. They arrived together on time. The trunk bag was missing a shoulder strap. When I reported the missing shoulder strap they sent me a replacement rain cover. Even though I very specifically confirmed they were sending me a strap. "you're just sending a strap, right? I don't want to bother with any exchanges." "Yes"
But they shipped the cover and want the original back. When I spoke to a rep she was kind enough to credit me for the missing strap and promised to eliminate the return request on the cover. But I'm getting reminders now that the cover needs to be returned or they'll charge my credit card. It's a hassle you hope to avoid.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  I liked this, it's effective, but I wish it was a bit larger, July 5, 2011
By Mark
While the MTX DXP will resist a certain amount of moisture before the interior of the bag becomes wet, the rain cover is essential to keep the bag dry during a downpour or extended time in the rain. Much like a hiking pack cover, this does the trick.

My only complaint is that I wish the bag itself provided more leeway in space for items strapped to the outside of the bag. I find that it's practical to strap tent poles or sandals to the MTX bag itself. The rain cover form fits the bag as it's assembled with little leeway. So, if you have sandals hanging off the top of your bag, you'll need to remove these or find another mechanism for these to be strapped too while the rain cover is on.

Only a small complaint; the MTX DXP is an amazing bag and the rain cover is easy to carry and makes it seem almost invincible.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Only necessary for very heavy rain, January 12, 2011
By Researcher (Oklahoma, USA)
The bag itself resists light rains well, but if you ride in all weather this is a nice addition to your kit. The cover folds nicely into itself to the size of about 2 decks of cards. It has kept the contents dry through a couple of heavy showers, but I had not yet had it in a downpour. Easy to put on, but makes getting your lock out difficult in the rain! The bright color is also handy for visibility.

Quickly and easily installs over the saddle bags. Does a good job of keeping the bag dry. Folds back up into a compact shape which easily fits in the bag to carry around all the time. Love this cover!
